Hospital Food----My how it's changed>>>For the better
I was in the hospital in January and again in February and the hospital went by the same method, order what you want when you want it! The food was pretty decent but if you were in for more than a few days, it would get pretty boring as it wasn't a huge selection.

We stayed at Goldmoor a few years ago and were sorry that we did. First morning we told staff we had one vegetarian so they served bacon. Second morning we told staff one was allergic to eggs so we were served a quiche and were told that "well the eggs are just a binder, that shouldn't bother you" We ate the rest of our meals in Galena. There were other issues with them that I need not get into but I certainly would not recommend them.
Does anybody remember when Pizza Hut used to be good?
In the 1960's Pizza Hut was the only game in town unless you were old enough to go to a bar for bar pizza. I was a teenager then so it was a go to place for us and pretty good. In mid-America, PH is still pretty prominent in small rural towns. Haven't been in years but a stop in a small town, PH for lunch buffet was usually a safe bet.
Finger lickin' good? [moved from General topics]
What kind of BBQ place only has cloth napkins?! The one I go to has rolls of paper towels at each table! That's real BBQ!
'Chopped' trio vs. team Garces on Iron Chef America [spoilers]
That was an excellent episode! It was a real surprise to see Amanda Frietag as sous, obviously Chef Madison is being groomed for something bigger! Congrats to him and his team!

Timmerman's Super Club outside of Dubuque on the Illinois side has been around forever but still is a local favorite. We have also enjoyed dinner at Buck's Barn Resort near Savanna Illinois, classic super club like Timmerman's. Savanna has a number of super casual restaurants around the marina area and in town.

Chopped All Stars 4/8/12 with spoilers
In the past Scott Conant has always scolded a contestant who drank from the bottle as being unprofessional and giving a bad image. When I saw Mark do it first I thought, ah ha... that's going to do him in but then Michael did the same.
Top Chef: where are they now (ongoing)
You can add Fabio and Richard to the list of media hogs, they pop up all over.
Mexican and New Mexican in Madison, Wi
I don't understand the reference to a place in Sandwich Illinois under this heading?
How often...
Rick Bayless is one who is seen in the kitchen at any one of his Chicago restaurants frequently. They are all close together and he lives close by.
Steakhouses - Stop asking me to cut into my steak as soon as it arrives!
Not high end at all but even my local pub grub spot asks this of me with a hamburger! Recently was asked to cut into a burger at Chili's even!
Worst Cooks in America
Agreed, I was pretty shocked. Glad to see the 2-fu lady go though.
Costo membership - worth it? must-tries etc.
Our local Costco is having a "free" weekend where anyone can come in and shop. St. Charles, Illinois. They did this around Christmas too.
Greek in the west burbs of Chicago
We enjoy Odyssey which has a location in Lombard and St Charles. We go to the St Charles location on North Ave. near the mall. Great food, great staff
The real reson for the "Waste"
What about the lady I saw once going through the apples at the grocery, taking a bite and putting them back before moving on to the next bin to taste. You have that kind of waste and then the people who peel corn husks almost off before selecting their corn. I know there could be more consumer education but you will always have the selfish idiots.
Losing interest in Iron Chef America
I have lost interest when they have shows like last night when it was Battle Tortilla and Tequila. First you take Ecuadorian chef Garces and the Argentine lady and make them make Mexican food with a "mixologist". After about 5 minutes I could not watch any longer.
Hunted Deer
Whatever you get, make sure you get some backstrap (wonderful tenderloin like cut) and some bacon! Wonderful! A nice roast is good too.
Internet or Your Cookbooks - Which are You Using More ?
Another good point about using a cookbook is that they can be so much more than just recipe, many read with good prose and rich descriptions that a web recipe doesn't convey.
Internet or Your Cookbooks - Which are You Using More ?
I am a huge fan of my 1973 Betty Crocker cookbook for reference for timing and temperature on cooking meat. It makes reference to the different cuts, weights, oven temps, meat temps and time and has been pretty darn accurate. That said, as much as I love it, I also do a quick online search because some meats, pork especially, have changed in their accepted internal temps. Cut styles have also changed. But I still love old Betty and if nothing else, it's a hoot to pull out and look at some of the "In Style" appetizers and mains of the era!
Vegetarian sausage?
We use the Morningstat Crumbles too when I make stuffed peppers. I can't remember the sausage brand we buy to make kraut and sausage but it's pretty good. Again, it's because it's blended in with the normal components and spices so it's easy to taste just like meat. Once or twice a year we have Morningstar Chicken Tenders but they are used as a vehicle for a good blue cheese sauce!
Why a TV in every restaurant?
I see TV's too often in ethnic restaurants. In one it was BBC Asia in an Asian language. Indian places have either Bollywood films or cricket. Several Thai places have Thai karaoke. All have been on large prominent TV's that are pretty obnoxious.
Applebees
I swore off Applebees years ago but recently went because a friend chose it. I had a peppercorn steak off their Under 500 calorie menu and it was quite good! The nice vegetable medley that came with it were perfectly cooked. Went back again with a different friend, had another steak off the under 500 menu and it too was perfect. My friend had a pasta dish and said it was one of the best she had had in a while, perfectly cooked with a nice creamy sauce.
What happened to Cat Cora
I know she has been involved in some projects with Disney World.
Naf Naf Grill in Naperville
We love Naf Naf too and have gone since it was in the Taco Bell site but not a fan of their Freedom Drive location. It's too noisy and chaotic. We have been going to the Aurora location which is at the Fox Valley Mall near the McDonalds. Just a better layout IMHO.
Why is Chef Robert Irvine hosting Restaurant: Impossible?
This show has had 18 episodes and you are just noticing now?
12 McDonald's Menu Items That Failed Spectacularly
McAfrika, Hula Burger and McGratin Croquette sound like they are from out of the US. Who knows if they were failures.
Top Chef Texas - Ep. #1 - 11/02/11 (Spoilers)
In Top Chef New York the first thing they did was meet the chefs outside somewhere and do a basic knife skill challenge. The loser left immediately. If Tyler stayed it would have been an insult to the integrity of the show and the other chefs who worked hard and take this seriously.
