Thank you guys so much for your recommendations! We ended up eating at:
- Pamela's in the strip: I liked the pancakes! I had them with bananas and I really love how crisp they were on the edges. I'm usually not a huge fan of pancakes but I enjoyed these.
- 21st Street Coffee and Tea: Drank a delicious and warm cappuccino while waiting for a table at Pamela's.
- Enrico's biscotti: We did a small wine tasting at the attached cafe and bought a bag of assorted biscotti to snack on during our trip (there weren't any left by the time I landed back at SFO)
- Six Penn Kitchen: I'm glad someone recommended this restaurant since it was so close to the Fairmont. I had their cracklin' pork which was so tender, and I thoroughly enjoyed the sauerkraut potatoes it came with.
- Original Oyster House: We came here for lunch after the Penguins/Capitals alumni game after trying to go to the nearby Primanti Bros Bar and Grille and seeing how packed it was. I'm glad we came here because the fried fish sandwich was tasty (it was a little greasy but definitely not soggy, yum) as well as the clam chowder.
- Armstrong's (in Coraopolis): We ate here since we were now staying at a hotel near the airport, and Armstrong's was recommended. It was very crowded and the wait was long but I did enjoy their chicken parmesan and housemade ravioli.
- Primanti Bros (stand in Heinz Field): We ate here before the Winter Classic. I was hoping we could go to the location in the strip but we figured since it was in the football field, why not try it here? They only had two sandwich options here, the cheesesteak, and the capicola. I liked the capicola better because it was a little spicy. I really want to try the location in the strip next time I return.
- Grand Concourse: We ate here for a late Sunday brunch and enjoyed it. It was a little pricey, but I appreciated the aesthetics of the dining room and the food was pretty good.
I wish we rented a car because there were so many other places I wanted to try! I'm definitely bookmarking this thread for when I return to Pittsburgh, and I really hope it's soon! I had a great time in Pittsburgh and you guys really helped that experience.

Hey everyone,
Thanks so much for keeping this conversation going! I'm definitely not expecting SF food in Pittsburgh, and I don't mean that to sound like Pittsburgh doesn't have good food of course (SF definitely also has its share of not-so-good food), I just mean that I want to eat food that's different from what I could get at home, and I would love to enjoy what the local Pittsburgh crowd enjoys :)
I really appreciate all your help. It turns out that I'll be spending two nights at the Fairmont Pittsburgh, which looks like it's a lot closer to the city proper than the airport hotel our package came with, so suggestions all over Pittsburgh are great.

Thanks so much for your words of advice! I'll definitely keep these places in mind. If you have anymore recommendations please feel free to throw it out - for anything! I hear there's lots of good ice cream in Pittsburgh, where should I go for that? (I'm always up for eating ice cream, even if it's snowing!)

Thank you for all of your suggestions! They are very helpful so please keep them coming. I see that Lidia of Lidia's Italy has an Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh - I enjoy watching her show but have never been to one of her restaurants, how is it?

We'll be staying around the airport which I realize is far away from the city proper so we're definitely open to visiting different areas (since there's really not much around the airport). As for food, I'm really open to anything, but my boyfriend really enjoys Japanese food - Are there any good Japanese restaurants you might recommend?

Hello,
I'll be visiting Pittsburgh in a couple of weeks from San Francisco - I've never been here before so I would love to hear what the not-to-be-missed places are of locals and visitors alike! I'm really open to anything, and I'm willing to pay for a great meal (I'll probably end up having one fancy meal while I'm there!)
So please let me know where I should eat while I'm in town :) Thanks for your help, really looking forward to seeing what you guys have to say!
San Jose wine shops?
Oh great! I'm flying into San Jose tomorrow so that works perfectly. Thanks :)
San Jose wine shops?
Anyone have any recommendations for a good wine shop in or around San Jose?
Lini Lambrusco
Thanks you guys! Biondivino does have some so I'm looking forward to going there soon.
Lini Lambrusco
Lini Lambrusco is so delicious, but I've only ever had a bottle (or two...) in LA while dining with my family at Pizzeria Mozza. I'm from SF though and was wondering if you guys know where I can find some Lini Lambrusco in the bay area? I'll be in San Jose tomorrow so are there any good wine shops around that might carry it?
