Good weekend child friendly brunch in Park Slope or Carroll Gardens?
Palo Santo on Union Street has a very good brunch. Every time we've been on a Sat morning, the back room has been pretty quiet and seems like it would be kid friendly.

We often order from Taro Sushi, which is very good and close by. Not sure if sushi is what you're looking for. I bet most places on 5th up to around Carroll/Garfield would deliver or let you pick up an order. Welcome to the neighborhood :)
Gowanus Yacht Club...Worth the Hoopla?
I agree- much more of a neighborhood place. Also, the bathroom is atrocious, even by minimal dive bar standards. I walk the three blocks back to my apartment rather than brave that dank basement.

The Grand Army Plaza Green Market is great during spring, summer and fall. Still open during the winter, but the selection isn't as good. Also, the Park Slope Food Coop has excellent produce, but you need to be a member to shop.
Good Park Slope lunch place to bring a 2 year old?
S'nice is very kid friendly. Aunt Suzie's is also very accommodating of children and has kid specials.
Sandwiches in Park Slope?
I had a great sandwich from Bierkraft today-- House roasted turkey, herb brie, honey mustard and arugula on ciabatta bread. As others have said, there is a wide variety of toppings and cheese selections, with meats being a bit more limited. Plus a bag of Zapps chips.
Cheap, festive(!) restaurant for private party.
Try Jimmy's No. 43 in the E.Village. I hosted a party there last August. They have a private room in the back that would fit 30 and excellent appetizers and excellent beer/wine selection. Our guests raved about the food & drinks. The staff/service was great too. Keep in mind that it is very casual, which is exactly what we were looking for, but it may not be right for everyone. They're very flexible with the back room, which can be set up and decorated anyway you like. We used lots and lots of candles and moved most of the tables to the side for more of a cocktail party feel. You can also plug your ipod into their sound system. They also let us bring in our own birthday cake.

Any recommendations for good take out sandwiches in Park Slope? I've been enjoying the sandwiches at S'nice (especially the roasted vegetable panini), but I'd love some non-veg options. Thanks!
Frankie's 457 Lately?
The food at Frankie's is very good, but it is much more rustic and casual (in all ways- food, decor, etc) than Dressler. Frankie's is our standard week night kind of spot. Food is very good at Dressler too. Dressler, in my opinion, has a more romantic, special feel.
Missing South America
I definitely recommend checking out Palo Santo- it's one of my favorite places in Park Slope. The food is very good. Quirky ambiance, great service. The wine list includes wines from Argentina and Uruguay.
Park Slope
I'd also highly recommend Palo Santo on Union between 4th and 5th. We've been there recently for both brunch and dinner and loved it. The menu changes daily, but there are some things that seem to be pretty consistent. For brunch, I've enjoyed the french toast with stewed fruit and omelette w/zucchini and cheese grits and my husband has ordered the pork sandwich w/homemade pickles twice because it was so good. For dinner, we've had the beet salad, pork tacos, both chicken and seafood posados, a curry duck dish and a grilled trout. Everything has been excellent. The last time we went for dinner (12/6), they offered a $20-25 three course prix fixe, which is a great great bargain. Not sure if that's every night though. We've always been happy with the service, which is helpful (we didn't know several items on the menu) without being condescending or cloying.

Thanks for the heads up. We went today and had a great experience. Word hasn't gotten out yet either-- we got there around 12:30 and there were only three other tables the entire time. The menu offers mostly lunch items, but there are a couple of egg dishes that would appeal to someone looking for brunch. An egg affogato dish (drowned in tomato) sounded wonderful, but I couldn't say no to the lasagna.

Brooklyn Fish Camp- lobster roll
Had the lobster roll at Brooklyn Fish Camp tonight and was disappointed. Lobster roll was significantly smaller than I've had here in the past and much heavier on the mayo. Almost a mayo sauce. It was totally buried on the plate under a mountain of fries. The roll has always been pricey, but at $33 it really felt like a ripoff. The small amount of lobster meat that was there was delicious- perfectly cooked and seasoned (once a lot of mayo was scraped off)- and contained two great claws.
I've enjoyed the lobster rolls here in the past and never had a complaint about portions, prices, etc. In fact, I've usually struggled to finish the rolls. I hadn't been to Brooklyn Fish Camp in a few months, so maybe this has been a trend for some time? Is it increases in the cost of lobster or running a restaurant in this economy?
On a side note, my husband had the grilled barramundi with a pineapple/pink peppercorn salsa that was delicious and seemed fairly priced at $18. The peel and eat shrimp appetizer was very good too.
Where to buy fresh fish in Park Slope?
How is the fish at Union Market? It looks pretty good, but we're new to Park Slope and haven't had a chance to try it.
Carroll Gardens Chinese
Nope... sadly, there is no decent chinese food in the neighborhood. Hunan Delight on Union Street in Park Slope is okay and delivers to us on Clinton/President in Carroll Gardens. It's not great, but it's much better than anything in Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill and is fresh and quick.
For a dumpling fix, Eton is very good. It just opened last week and has been discussed on the board a lot.
Red Hot Szechuan in Park Slope closed?
I'm happy to hear that it's back. I've missed Red Hot's hot and sour soup and chicken with hot pepper sauce and peanuts these past few months. They're just not the same anywhere else in the neighborhood.
Mary's fish camp, brooklyn?
I've been to both and think that the Brooklyn location is on par with the Manhattan location. Similar menus, same quality. Typically, I've had less of a wait in Brooklyn. Especially now that the garden is open, the wait in BK should be even better.
Italian Restaurant for old timer
I second Ferdinando's. It's on the casual side, but very old school and has great rice balls. I love the pannelle too.
I've never been to Marco Polo's on the corner of Court and Union in Carroll Gardens, but my parents enjoy it and have described it as very traditional (Brooklyn/NYC) Italian. It's a little fancier/pricier than Ferdinando's.
Looking for a real salumeria
Try Esposito's in Carroll Gardens (Court St btwn President and Union). Great sopressata and fress mozz. Also, Staubitz is very good (Court St at Baltic). I've never tried it there, but the website lists wild boar sausage. http://www.staubitz.com

Any report on the Olive Vine that recently opened on Court btw Degraw and Sackett? Is it the same as the one in Park Slope? It's been full the past few nights that we've walked by.

I love 12 street- charming spot, good service. The "sunday eggs" are great.
Drivable chow in Brooklyn
I recommend the good fork in red hook. It's not ethnic, but it's a bit off the beaten path and you really need a car to get there. We've had consistently good experiences. Great service, love the menu. Favorites are the fried oysters, dumplings, kimchi steak and eggs. http://www.goodfork.com/
Red Hook in general is a good driving and eating area. You should check out the the soccer field vendors in Red Hook one weekend this summer. And the Fairway.
Dinner to impress: The Grocery or Saul (or other)?
Grocery. We've enjoyed the tasting menu and the regular dinner menu. The duck is especially wonderful. The tables are a bit tight, but each time I've been there the staff and owners have gone out of their way to be welcoming. For me, this graciousness well compensates for any annoyance over the size. It's a treat.

I posted this there over the summer about Bubbys.
We recently attended a rehearsal dinner at Bubbys in Dumbo and had a great experience. The view is awesome! The couple reserved the entire upstairs area. There was a small bar set up as well as a three piece band. I think they had some passed hors d'ouevres. The food was served buffet style and was quite good. Certainly not fine dining, but was great comfort food. They don't have the best reputation on this board, but everything was very solid/good and was the casual and homey vibe that the couple wanted. Service was excellent.
