Insect shaped candy/lollipops with bugs

Hi guys,

My son turns 5 on Tuesday and has informed us he would really like a cake with lollipops with real insects (I've seen some with beetles or scorpions, etc.) in them. Trouble is that this is somewhat beyond what my local supermarket (Major Market in Escondido... a great market) carries!

Also, any kind of bug shaped candies to put on top would be great!

Does anyone know where to find such things? I'm willing to drive to get them..

Thanks all!

Best croissants in San Diego?

You guys owe it to yourself to make the trek to Escondido and try the croissants and baguettes at A Delight of France. They are something quite special. Major Market in Escondido serves decent baguettes and croissants as well...certainly as good or better than many supposed "French" restaurants. But A Delight of France's offerings will surprise you I think. Most of their other stuff is decent...not spectacular imo.

Molé for lunch near UTC in San Diego?

Hey All,

Tired of the xxxbertos style Mexican food near UTC, I'm wondering if anyone serves a good Molé in or close enough to the UTC area to go for lunch during the work week?

Thanks!

Good Indian Restaurant close to Carlsbad

There's India Princess in San Marcos. Not too close, and not outstanding, but decent.

Lunch specials - Mira Mesa (San Diego)

Mesquite sounds interesting, but it appears that they are closed. Their website is gone as well.

No-budget dinner reco please (San Diego)

I'll definitely chime in for Addison's...so long as you're not paying. Quality is outstanding, the experience is superb. I ate there two weeks ago on someone else's dime...We didn't think ourselves too extravagent, brought in two bottles of wine (corkage was very reasonable $35 for the attention they paid. 3 bottle limit, so long as it's not on the wine list), and we still managed to be around $400/person. Yikes! I hate to think what Guy Savoy is if this is the dollar menu!

French Chefs & Breakfast/Brunch Dishes [moved from California board]

I don't believe this to be true. I've had many omelettes in various parts of France..with Truffles, forest mushrooms, many other ingredients depending on the locale.

A quick search on the net traces references in French cookbooks back to 1653, and 1393 for its ancestors : http://www.hertzmann.com/articles/200...

Harry's Bar San Diego/Golden Triangle...how is it?

So I've had these gift certificates for Harry's bar for a couple of years now and I've yet to go there...figured I'd better before it goes the way of Sharper Image. Has anyone been recently? How is it? I've never been... If you tell me to Craigslist the certs, I won't be offended as I received them for free.

Thanks,

Phil

Prepared Foie Gras in San Diego

What???? A Foie tasting at Cavaillon and I missed it? Unbelievable. If anyone wants to join me, maybe we can convince the chef to do a mini tasting!

Prepared Foie Gras in San Diego

Thanks guys! Cavaillon is a terrific recommendation. I've been there a couple of times for some erobertparker.com wine dinners...terrific.

I haven't made it to Arterra yet...might be a good time, and I've never heard of the Better Half!

Prepared Foie Gras in San Diego

This is very strange, but my post completely disappeared from the board...not sure if someone pulled it for some reason?

I'm craving some Foie right now and am about to be a bachelor for a week, so I'll actually be able to get to a restaurant (we have two very young children and don't go out to eat very often for dinner).

Do you have an opinion of whose is the best? I live in Escondido but have no problem going anywhere in San DIego.

I definitely second someone's recommendation of Piatti for sweetbreads as the best in San Diego, so I'm hoping there are opinions on my beloved foie gras!

Thanks all!

French Market Grille review

It's great to hear that this place is still around. I don't know if Patrick still owns it, but he was the GM of La Valencia Hotel for quite some time...and also my boss back then! He is a very passionate about food and service, and I certainly learned much from him. What was the "problem" you referred to? I didn't catch it...?

Good Take-out Dim Sum in San Diego?

I know that you can get Dim Sum from Jasmine at their little express place, but are there any other good options for take-out Dim Sum in San Diego?

Thanks!

Cafe Cerise, San Diego: a winner, but don't wait

This sounds a bit ominous, Jason! I've been a fan as well, though live pretty far away. Are you planning something new?
