i used to live in the neighborhood & i liked:
--taqueria y fonda on amsterdam between 107/108th streets. hole-in-the-wall mexican but superfresh & delicioso
--awash on amsterdan between 106/107th streets. terrific ethiopian, according to me (!!) & a friend who was stationed in ethiopia when working for the state dept. slow service but worth the wait.

Thanks, Tay! I will def. check it out--and Bayridge is even closer to where they are, so that'd be fine!
Picky In-Laws + Thanksgiving 2009 in Brooklyn = Yikes!! Any Ideas?!
So my husband & I are meeting my in-laws in Brooklyn for a Thanksgiving dinner.
We are stymied for a place that will satisfy all of us, and I thought fellow Chowhounders might have a solution, other than heavy drinking or eating cold cereal by ourselves at home (god forbid!).
Here are our parameters:
1) A restaurant in Park Slope, Downtown Brooklyn, Carroll Gardens or something not too far into Fort Greene or Prospect Heights.
2) Something not too fancy but not too dive-y either. My in-laws are uncomfortable with anything too upscale, nouveau, or foreign. My husband & I are way more open, and we want to have a nice meal nonetheless. It doesn't have to be a traditional turkey dinner, either, but traditional is fine, too.
3) Under $60 per person would be great, else my father-in-law will blow a gasket. Not a good thing on Thanksgiving.
Any brilliant ideas other than a diner? Or Dunkin Donuts? Yes, I've fallen that low...
