Cleaned, Blue Crabs in Raleigh area?
I'm looking for what folks back home (LA) refer to as gumbo crabs -- small, cleaned crabs, typically broken in two and sold in packs of two or four. I tried Grand Asia today as our Asian market in MD carries them, but I had no luck.
Any advice?
Li Ming's Global Market in Durham
Does anyone know if this store (or any other store in the Raleigh/Durham/Cary area sells cleaned blue crabs? I tried Grand Asia today and they didn't have any. Many thanks!
Best Burger in Annapolis
Though not technically Annapolis, Yellowfin has a very good burger.
Need a restaurant near the harbor in baltimore!
Question re: Woodberry Kitchen...going for a very early dinner on Saturday before an outdoor concert that will be rather casual. I've read attire is "casual"...but exactly how casual is it?
Dragged Kickin and Hollerin Into Chuy's on North Lamar
Chuy's is great...after you've had the displeasure of sucking down Lone Stars at ACL all day.
Newport, RI
Thank you. We have a friend who will be parking downtown, so hopefully we can drop our chairs off with him. I'm assuming casual (shorts/capris/sundress) is appropriate for the bar dining there?
Newport, RI
I'm assuming anything classified as bar dining would be okay with casual dress? We'll be in town for Folk Festival 50 and would be coming directly from the festival two nights...with chairs in tow (ugh!) since our hotel is on Goat Island. Appreciate any recommendations or advice.
Trip report: savannah, beaufort, charleston
What's the attire for Elizabeth's? Anyone else here have recommendations for Savannah? We'll be there July 2 - July 5. Thanks!
Good eats around DAR
We did Old Ebbit before the show and it was jam packed but we were able to eat at the bar quickly and walk to DAR from there.
Copeland's - RIP
The Copeland's in Louisiana and the south are pretty good for chains and serve a delicious brunch if you're in a hurry.
Bakery Referral, Please
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! Love the Bowie story, but our subject is fully dressed.
Beer or Wine as a "Life Style" Choice
I'm not really interested in what anyone else has to say about what I ingest. Life's short -- drink what makes you happy.
Bakery Referral, Please
I'll be in Austin in early November and need to have a photo cake made in a hurry (in an afternoon, basically). I'm not too concerned with the quality because it is a cake being given in jest. Can anyone make recommendations? We'll be staying at a hotel downtown.
Pad Thai in Annapolis
Had dinner here last week. Great food and excellent service. Recommend!
Pasta in Annapolis
I'm not cheap. Heck, I'll pay $25 or more for great pasta! But if it's merely good...that's another story.
Pasta in Annapolis
Osteria 177. Again, and I'm sorry to be so negative about Annapolis, but I dined there last night and found it to be pretty average. The service was very good, however. I ordered the gnocchi which was good but not great, but it was seriously overpriced. $19 for a plate of pasta which I actually finished. I never finish anything, that's just how small of a serving it was. They were also having problems with their HVAC, so it was stifling in there. On the positive side, the wine list was good and dessert was quite tasty.
brunch in annapolis area?
That's a shame. For the prices they are charging, service should be flawless.
brunch in annapolis area?
Great atmosphere -- agreed! You are right that the prices seem a bit steep for the uneven quality of the food. How was the service? We experienced some bumps last time we were there.
brunch in annapolis area?
I'm hearing good things about Sam's these days. We were regulars when Mary was the owner and Phillip was the chef, too. It seems they went through a bit of a tough period but, again, I have heard good things lately.
Cumberland, Maryland [Moved from Washington DC/Baltimore Area board]
I second Queen City Creamery. Excellent milkshakes!
Charm City Cakes
Had the opportunity to try one of Duff's cakes at a party and I must say it was one of the best cakes I've ever tasted. I didn't eat the fondant as I really don't like frosting in any form, but the cake portion itself was moist and flavorful. It was a really cute cake, to boot!
WWYD If your dinner guests...
The biggest fight of my life was with my mother over a cucumber I had picked out to make a salad that night. Of course, it wasn't about the cucumber. It never is.
Looking for Two Ingredients: Tasso and Fresh Blue Corn Tortillas...
I don't know that you will find authentic tasso in this area. I've looked and have never had success. A great online resource for the future is www.cajunsausage.com. They make tasso and andouille -- real, Louisiana Andouille!
Pre-Kennedy Center Dinner
You can also park at 600 New Hampshire Ave. NW (that's one of the Watergate buildings that is directly across from the Saudi embassy and the Kennedy Center) and walk through the underground lot (or above ground) to get to the restaurant. 600 Restaurant in that building is also good.
any info on Lemongrass in B-more?
If Lemongrass is really Thai, then I'm the Queen of Siam. I am not a fan of any of the restaurants in the mix (Tsunami, Metropolitan, Lemongrass). I wouldn't say the food is bad -- it's pretty average -- but the service is really, really pathetic.
