MSP - Who's got the best mac and cheese?
Sapor (downtown MPLS) has phenomenal Mac and Cheese with excellent bacon (Fisher Farms?). A very underappreciated restaurant, if the number of diners on a given night is any indication!

Looking for good Japanese restaurant
I know "me toos" aren't too helpful, but please take diesel's advice. Tanpopo would be perfect. Very delicious food and laid back atmosphere. Make sure to try the ginger ice cream if they have it.
BEST cup of coffee in the Twin Cities??
Long thread, but to add my two cents - I make any excuse I can to get to Isles Bun and Coffee. Since we're just talking "cup of coffee" their Isles Blend brewed coffee is the best I've had in the Twin Cities. The baked goods are just a bonus.

Keefer Court is a Hong-Kong style bakery. Yummy food - Cash only.

Where to eat in Cleveland before a Brown's game?
Unless you're wearing a steelers or ravens jersey, you might luck out at a tailgate - they're a fun crowd. Some people undoubtedly bring "real" food. Check out a Browns board (www.theobr.com?) for suggestions.
Pad Thai in Minneapolis
Double that recommendation. Best Pad Thai I've ever had is at King & I.
Iowa City restaurant recs
Prepare to get alot of replies! My wife and I LOVE Red Avocado on Washington, a short walk from Dubuque. They feature locally sourced ingredients and have amazing dishes like "Jupiter's Gnocchi" and excellent teas and juices. I've not found anything quite like it where I live in the Twin Cities.

Enjoy!
MSP: Sponge Candy?
You can also try Candyland, I had some sponge candy there (St. Paul) a few months ago and it was good! They've got locations in downtown Minneapolis and in St. Paul on Wabasha by Macy's.
MSP- Lasagna
I haven't had alot of lasagna here for a head to head comparison (Broder's sounds worth a visit) but the lasagna that my wife ordered at La Grolla a month or so ago was AMAZING. Very savory and great spices. Makes me salivate thinking about it, actually.
Schlafly Bottleworks STL
Bottleworks is great, although me and my fiancee now live in the MSP area and haven't been since last December. I'd recommend the waldorf salad, squash bisque, and calzone/pizza with one of the special meats (venison, bison) that they have, but above all get the kogut curry chicken sandwich. Wow. As for beer, the Coffee Stout and Winter ESB are my favorites. Enjoy!
Eating in and around Iowa City
I second that, and if you go you must get the Tiramisu which is spectacular.
St. Louis - good reasonable food around Barnes-Jewish
I moved away this summer but worked at the Medical Center for six years. Near BJH are the Scottish Arms, Coffee Oasis, and Little Saigon (go for the soup). Eternity Vegetarian is also pretty good.
St. Louis: Which Welsh pub - Dressel's or Llywellyn's?
I'm currently in MSP, so this may be out of date, but I prefer the combination of food/portions/prices at Llwelynn's to Dressels. With your meal (steak and cheese or brittany chicken salad are lovely) get a salad with the balsamic dressing and save it for dipping your chips (which you will get). The atmosphere is "nicer" at Dressel's for talking though. Classical music and poetry on the walls.
And to add to the traditionally Welsh pubs, Scottish Arms on Sarah is fantastic. Great food, drink selection, and atmosphere. If they're still around...
Eating in and around Iowa City
I wholeheartedly agree with this. I found out about Red Avacado from this board, took my girlfriend (now fiancee) there while visiting her in grad school once and we went back almost every week since then. The Banana Bolt was my favorite drink, by the way. Also they have very good spinach salad (drizzled with toasted sesame seeds), tofu scramble (hearty and "eggy" tasting, sans eggs), and yummy desserts.
