Venison Steak Recipe, Please...

We gave our daughter some Venison Steaks (my husband is a hunter) and she is making dinner for her fiancee & another couple. She wanted to know how I prepare them. We marinate and grill them, but she lives in NYC in a tiny apartment, and does not have a grill. So I am hoping someone will help me with a recipe that is not too difficult, that she could use for the venison steaks, using her gas range. If you have favorites sides to serve with the recipe, we'd appreciate those as well. Thank you so much, in advance.

Davie/Plantation Party/Happy Hour Bar near NOVA??

Our son has a birthday soon, and we thought having a get-together at one of the bars near his school (NOVA Southeastern). We want to order some appetizers, and buy the friends who come some drinks. We will get to meet his friends, and he will have nice time with them. We have looked into Duffy's in Plantation, and also Davie Ale House (also called Miller's Ale House). Does anyone have experience/opinons on either of these, or possibly another alternative? Thank you so much for any help.suggestions you can give us!

Do you mind if I ask, if I should go with any of these whites, a mix of a couple? I like whites, but I do not spend a lot on my wine...husband likes red...:) These are all Chards, but I any recs would be appreciated. Thank you so much! I want to make a good first impression, and show my appreciation for their wonderful hospitality to me, and my daughter.

Wine Gift Suggestions, please...

Thank you for that information. I wonder if maybe I should just use a NY wine vendor, and go with whatever they have?

Wine Gift Suggestions, please...

I am invited to spend the weekend with my daughter's boyfriend's family in NY. I thought wine would be a good gift to send before my arrival. (I am flying there, traveling light.) They prefer white wine. I was thinking of spending around $150 or so, maybe 4 or 6 bottles? We have visited some Anderson Valley, CA wineries, and thought maybe selecting one to buy from, something they may not have tried. But maybe a selection of well know & liked wines would be a better choice? I would appreciate any suggestions/recommendations you could give me. Thanks in advance!

Need Scallop & Vanilla Cream Sauce Recipe, Southern Living Christmas 2008.

A friend of mine has "Southern Living Christmas 2008" and the recipe is in it. She would like to make this for friends she is visiting, and thought I had the recipe. I googled, and found a similar one, but she said it is a little different. If anyone can help out, I appreciate it. It sounds great tho, and I would love to try it also. Thanks in advance!

Need appetizer to take on boat.

Thank you ALL for your great ideas! I am going to keep these for our next trip. I had to make my app. early on Sunday and had the ingredients on hand, so went ahead with deviled eggs and chicken salad with baguette rounds and romaine leaves to spread it on. Others brought meatballs, ham/cheese/mustard/pickle roll-ups, fresh marinated grilled swordfish chunks w/toothpicks/, spiced nuts, oatmeal cookies.
Your ideas will be great and will carry me through many more "raft-ups". It was great too, we saw the sun set and the full moon rise, just beautiful. (We're in the FL Keys) Thank you again!

Need appetizer to take on boat.

We are joining other boats for a "raft up" to watch sunset and share appetizers. These will be our dinner, so we try to bring heavy or substantial appetizers. I have taken cheese/salami/olive platters, shrimp, chicken salad w/crackers, in the past, but looking for something new. Thank you in advance....mary

My first cruise stops in Key West on Friday... Help?

You could go to Dante's a restaraunt/bar casual food, it has a pool in the center of the restaraunt, not far from the port. Or cab to Salute', a casual restaraunt on the beach, a favorite of ours and we live close to KW. Wear your swim suit under your shorts, eat/drink at Salute' and enjoy the beach. There is also a place at the end of Duval (Atlantic side, other end of where the ships dock, that has a bar/casual food/beach chairs/limited beach). Enjoy your time here, it's a great place. mary

Miami/Key West food intinerary

We like Keys Fisheries in Marathon a lot. But you don't mention too many paces in Key West? Micheals is great, but I hope you are spending more time in Key West? There was an earlier post on places in KW, hope that will help. Welcome to the Keys, it's a wonderful place to visit and enjoy great food.

Thanksgiving apps: flavored popcorn

Great idea! I had popcorn that was SO good, flavored with truffle salt. I took a cooking class at the "Chopping Block" in the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. They used this salt, they carry and sell, on popcorn as a snack, and it was addictive. I use this salt on a lot of things, including buttered, salted, roasted almonds.

Two Sisters Restaurant Coral Gables

We just had dinner at Two Sisters Restaurant and the service and quality of food was excellent. It is in the Hyatt and they also have a lively bar and dance club. Lots of people were out in the courtyard having drinks, and at the bar. Our waiter was attentive, and the manager came over to check on us. My husband had black bean soup and strip steak, and I had the tortilla soup and Mahi Mahi, all very, very good. We live in the FL Keys, and were here for a night before flying out of Miami. We enjoyed our evening here. mary

Key West in Nov.

Town and Tavern is in the Beachside Resort. It is very good also, they have a great "Happy Hour" there, with 1/2 price appetizers.

Ambrosia is also a good choice for lunch or dinner. It's located in the Santa Maria condo/hotel. They offer very good Japanese and Sushi. At lunch they have a "Bento box special" which is great. The sushi is top notch, and reasonable.

Waring Pro or Cadco Convection oven?

Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it. I am happy to hear you use this oven a lot, and that it is so versitle. I hope you don't mind more questions? Have you used the roitisserie? Is it hard to clean the oven afterwards? It sounds as tho you could do everything in this oven, you could in a conventional oven, but more (roitisserie). I only have a GE Advantium (cannot put in metal, only glass, and only cooks at high speed), put in by previous owners, and the kitchen is too small to take out of cabinet to install one. I would put this in the attatched garage, on a counter, next to the kitchen. It would be nice to have a second oven, and a more conventional one, that I miss. Thanks again! mary

Key West in Nov.

We live down here and I agree with most of the previous posts, especially Bayou Teche. Except for Louie's, friends who have been there recently were disappointed.

Michael's is great for steaks and are well known for them, but I always get fish there and am never disappointed. They also have a special bar menu, if you ever just want a drink and something light.

7 Fish is my favorite place for Fish in Key West.

Pepe's on Caroline St., for breakfast.

Meteor Smokehouse is a great place for lunch or late night dinning, as they serve the same menu until 3:00 a.m. They have great pulled pork and brisket sandwiches, try the spicy green beans, and my favorite is the house salad with grilled fish (usually Mahi Mahi, blackened or not) on top.

If you are driving down, or have a car and want another great choice, head up to MM24, Cudjoe Key, and eat at the Square Grouper. It serves lunch and dinner. (closed Sunday & Monday)
In Sugarloaf Key, MM18 , Kingston's Clam Bar, is also very good.

My son and his friends like to stop at Mr. Z's, just off Duval, on Southard, for sandwiches and pizza.

Waring Pro or Cadco Convection oven?

Thank you so much for your reply. I was worried after reading one bad review on Amazon. Have you baked bread in it, or cookies? Is it safe to set up under an overhead cabinet, or does it get too hot for that? I appreciate your help, thanks!

Waring Pro or Cadco Convection oven?

This is the same question as my other post, but maybe it will catch someone's attention better? Which convection oven would you recommend? Thank you for your time and help. mary

Need countertop oven...want advice please

The previous owners of our home remodeled the kitchen and put in a gas cooktop and an Advantium oven. I am still trying to get used to using the Advantium oven, and miss not having a conventional oven. I'd like to get a countertop oven that I can use for low, slow roasting, and baking, etc.

I have done some research and found the Waring Pro Convection oven and the Cadco Convection oven. Reviews have been positive on both, with some unhappiness regarding the Waring. I don't know if the Cadco can be used in just a Bake mode, w/o the convection fan going?

Does anyone have either of these ovens, and how do you like them? Can the Cadco be used w/o the convection? Are there any other options out there for me?

Thank you in advance, I appreciate any and all opinions/recommendations. mary

Exactly how long does tahini paste last?

Thank you, Val, and Drucie. The Tahini I bought was the Joyva (from Cost Plus World Market) and it was so thick/hard, I couldn't hardly stir it. So I will try it again, and maybe add some water to it. Thanks so much!

Exactly how long does tahini paste last?

I am sorry if this is off the original subject, but I bought Tahini once, and it was so hard, I couldn't stir or hardly spoon it out of the jar. I ended up throwing it out, as I thought it was bad. Is it always like that? If so, how do you work with it. I wanted to make Hummus also. thanks in advance.

Shower gift ideas?

Thank you for both suggestions. I will find out what they like and buy a high end liquor for them, or maybe a "margarita" basket with all the ingredients for those.

Shower gift ideas?

We're invited to a couples wedding shower for a young couple. The invitation asks for gifts to help them stock their bar or gifts used to entertain and have fun as their married life begins. I know one couple is giving them a "Rabbit" wine opener. Do you have any other gift ideas for us? Thank you in advance! mary
