Mixer advice - mine died
I had a crappy West Bend stand mixer that burned out making a big batch of dough last week. I need to get a new mixer but have some questions:
- Since I already have a Cuisinart Food processor with dough blades and all the attachments, do I *need* a stand mixer? I use the CA for bread dough and pasta dough, the mixer for cookies, cakes, frostings...
-I have a stand alone meat grinder, as well as an Italian pasta maker and ravioli press, so no real need for the KA attachments
-My kitchen and storage space is limited, so I'm thinking of getting a KA hand-mixer and just using the CA for the heavy lifting, but don't know if I'm missing something without a stand mixer. I still have the three mixing bowls from the West Bend, which will be handy right?
So - in this situation do you think it's okay to pass on the stand mixer? Are there other hand mixers that you can suggest beyond KA?
Thanks!!
Pho/Good Vietnamese on North Shore?
I've been living in Marblehead for nearly 5 years and have yet to find anything decent in the way of Vietnamese Pho in or around town. Suggestions? Travel to Lynn, Peabody, Salem is fine but Chinatown is too far :) Thanks!hn
Indian Pudding?
Just saw a tasty looking Indian Pudding on Iron Chef - it was Bobby Flay's recipe - but can't find a recipe that looks similar enough. Any good ones out there?
His had cornmeal, milk, molasses and a few spices, and was topped with cinnamon ice cream and I think blueberries...omg it looked so good.
Harvard Square Lunch Saturday afternoon?
I would try Harvest in the square: http://www.harvestcambridge.com/
It's a bit $$ but a great experience. You can call for hours and reservations.
