Who Are Your Cooking Icons/Idols?

My mother for Russian cuisine, she was a wonderful cook and made me appreciate Russian food.
For French cuisine, it has to be Julia Child and Jacques Pepin. They made me understand and appreciate French cooking and techniques.

Hot or cold Sauerkraut? How do you eat it and with what?

Farmers ribs have more meat attached to the rib than short ribs.

Hot or cold Sauerkraut? How do you eat it and with what?

I love it hot or cold and drink the brine for its vitamins and taste. Favorite to cook, saute farmer's ribs, rinse saurkraut, add onion and granny smith apple, put in saute pan with ribs and put in oven at 350 for one hour , covered. Food of gods!

Hey Chicago, it's your birthday. . . where would you eat your "perfect" birthday lunch and dinner?

The only reason I didn't pick the Girl and the Goat is because it is too casual and I like the ambiance at MK.

Ad Hoc, Rome

My son is considering making a reservation at Ad Hoc restaurant in Rome for their anniversary dinner. Has anyone eaten there recently? Any comments would be appreciated.

What will/did you have for Christmas dinner?

We had a wonderful roasted pork rib loin rubbed with garlic, rosemary and sage. It was served with roasted new potatoes in duck fat as well as roasted carrots, onions and brussels sprouts. For dessert, a chocolate pavlova with whipped cream and mixed berries. It was festive and satisfying!

Turducken -- Good or just a novelty.

We got a turducin for Thanksgiving two years ago fro CajunGrocer. It was OK but nothing special! I think your guests would like it from uniqueness point of view.

What kind of pork should I get?

I would say a fresh ham would be wonderful and you would have some crackling. Second choice would be rib bone in pork roast. You could get either r3 rib roast or 4 or 5. This would be half of a crown roast if you didn't want that much left over.

Best Supermarket In USA: your nominations

Just returned from Texas. Went to the Central Market in Plano and slowly looked at their amazing produce, meat, seafood, cheese, bakery and prepared foods. It was a wonderland for a foodie!

Best Supermarket In USA: your nominations

We are going to visit our family in Texas for Thanksgiving. I can't wait to go to the Central Market in Plano. Just walking around and seeing all of their offerings is an experience, better than the museum.

LOOKING FOR A SIDEDISH

Make the braised cabbage with red cabbage and an apple sliced to it with some red wine vinegar. it will go very well with your stuffed pork chop and will add a nice complementary flavor.

M.Henry-Worth the wait?

If you hesitate going there because of the wait, go to Marmalade on corner of Damen and Montrose. Very good breakfast selections and they were inspired by M. Henry.

Critique My Menu? 5-6 Courses, French

Basically, I would substitute a carrot soup or butternut squash soup for the roasted carrots. The soups can be made ahead and rewarmed prior to serving. serve the soup prior to the salad.

Sexy Manly Desserts to Impress!

I think your idea for a flourless chocolate cake is a winner and travels well. Upon arrival, you could warm up some dark chocolate fudge to pour on it and the man is yours!

Stroganoff - What's in a name?

If you refer to the "original" recipe, it is what it is. Most recipes have evolved over time and been adapted to the families' tastes or regional tastes and still called by the original name. No biggie!

I would second BOKA. The other two suggestions are Everest or Spiaggia, either one is a great restaurant.
