Montrealers in DC
My girlfriend and I will be heading down to DC for 3 nights in April to celebrate her birthday. We have made some reservations and would like to know what DC chowhounds think of our selections, and whether we are missing anything truely special. Just an FYI - my gf is a vegetarian and I don't eat fish, so please keep this is mind. We are in our mid-twenties and don't want anything pretencious, no fancy gastronomy - just yummy food. We are saying in the whitehouse area, but will travel.
Dinner Picks:
1st night - Church Key - we will be getting in late Thursday night after driving all day from Montreal - do you think we'll be able to get a table around 9 or 10?
2nd night - Aqua al 2 - my girlfriend loves pasta, this is her birthday
3rd night - Zaytinya - will this place be fun on a Saturday night???
[5:05:15 PM] Marlee Silverstein: Lunch Picks:
Two Amys - what is the wait like in the afternoon?
Other suggestions? Any great sunday bruch places not to miss?

Delivery in the Old Port
Good afternoon Hounds,
I recently moved to the Old Port from downtown-West Montreal, and am in need of some new delivery restaurants. Specifically, Chinese, sushi and pizza. Any suggestions?
Office Scotch Club
So I went with the Jura Superstition, and was quite pleased. As were the people I was drinking with. One girl said it was a little too smokey, but overall it was a great scotch.
Office Scotch Club
I checked the SAQ and they carry a Isle of Jura 10 ans scotch single malt. Reviews?
Office Scotch Club
We all enjoy scotch, and can recognize when its good. So I would say we are fairly new, compared to a lot of people on here.
Office Scotch Club
Since it's only the second "round" I would like to stick with something similar. Later one we can experiment with different flavor profiles.
Office Scotch Club
Some fellow co-workers and I recently decided to all pitch in for a bottle of scotch, and occasionally stay late after work to have a drink. We've decided to all take turns choosing and buying the bottle, and then we split it 4 ways. We are now on our second bottle, and it's my turn to buy. The first bottle, was a Balvenie Double Wood 12 year. It was enjoyed by all. I am looking for some suggestions for the next bottle. Since we are all splitting it, I would like to stay in the $80 to $100 range. In addition, I live in Quebec, so selection is limited to what the SAQ has.

Montreal With 20-Something Old Son-Early June
I second these choices. I am 24 and these are all favorites of mine. After Salle, head up the street to Bily Kun for drinks.
Swarm Jam/Groupon Coupons
Overall the food was good. Not amazing and not horrible. I probably wont go back, unless I get another coupon or I have a party there (which I doubt I will). But I have nothing bad to say about it. We shared some pizzas to start, and they were fine.. One mushroom the other meat (pepperoni and sausage). I ordered the Linguini with pesto and goats cheese, and asked if they could put italian sausage in it, they did. It tasted good, but I love pesto so...My one complaint was that I discretely told the waitress at the beginning to bring a tiramisu for the birthday girl after the meal and pointed her out. After the meal, the waitress pulled me aside (not obvious at all) and needed clarifying on what to bring and whose birthday it was. A little bit annoying was nothing too crazy. Overall, it was good. Worth a try if you got the coupons or are in the area.
Swarm Jam/Groupon Coupons
My girlfriend purchased four coupons at $10 each, worth $20 at Artigiani Pizzeria. We had forgot about them until this past Sunday. Upon reviewing the coupon, we noticed they expired in March, when we had only bought them at the end of January. Regardless, we called the restaurent, and explained that we had 4 expired coupons, but asked if we could still use them for a birthday celebration. The restaurent agreed to honor our coupons. Out of a group of 7, four of us used the coupons, and it effectively knocked off $20 off each of our bills. Well worth the buy, but definitely read the fine print and expiration dates.
Easter weekend in boston (Copley Square)
So were thinking of skipping wine riot, and try another resto instead!
Were thinking Friday night Lolita, and Sunday night Scampo. What is a good hotspot for Saturday night?
Maybe a new American, or burger type place, but with a fun vibe, that won't take 30 minutes!
For breakfast were going to Mistral, probably Sunday morning. Other breakfast/lunch suggestions for Saturday? What about Monday on the way out, something to pick-up and eat in the car?

Awesome! Thanks in advance, Chef. great references. Will let you know what we end up doing.
Easter weekend in boston (Copley Square)
Going to be in Boston Friday April 22nd to Monday April 25th
So far we are thinking about eating at:
Friday night @ the WIne Riot, has anyone been? Good for couple in their 20's?
Saturday night @ Scampo. Is this a fun place? Any recommendations for afterwards?
Sunday morning thinking about doing brunch @ Mistral. Is it worth it?
Other thoughts: the chocolate bar at Cafe Fleuri, Mikes City Diner (yes/no)
What do you recommend for Saturday day or Sunday night? What about something to pick up on the way back to Montreal?
Have we selected good places?
Just as a note: neither of us eats seafood, one is a vegetarian and the other is a pure carnivore.
We are in town to celebrate my girlfriends 23rd birthday, so we want really fun places!
We want to stay in walking distance of Copley Square.
Thanks!

Missed the article, but good to know. Thanks Wilma
Ice House
Went last thursday around 8:30pm with m'lady. Had the short rib burrito and the fried chicken taco. They snuck some pickled jalapeno peppers in the taco, and oh mama did that give it a kick. Creemore on tap, good vibes, killer food and homemade tabasco sauce. Will be back fore sure. Might be one of my new favorite spots. Recognized the waiter/guy running the place from Kitchenette (hodge's other resto). Really cool dude, had the place running like butter. Two, meat-juice covered thumbs up!
Single Malt for a Gift
As far as I know, the selection in Quebec (where I live) is pretty weak. Our Liquor is controlled by the Government, and sold by provincial run stores called the SAQ. The odd time you might find a limited edition bottle in some of the stores that specialize in more expensive bottles.
Single Malt for a Gift
I have decided to buy my grandfather a nice bottle of scotch for his birthday. I dont know much about scotch, but I do know what he likes. He likes a Glenlivet (18yrs or 21 yrs), but I would like to get him another one to try. The man likes, cheeses, fish, and various tartares and pates. He smokes a cigar occasionally as well. So that is all I can tell you about his palate and his tastes. I would spend around 100 bucks, maybe more. Can you give me some scotch's that may suit his taste?
Cafe Souvenir: Windows Papered up
Walked by Cafe Souvenir on Bernard, and couldn't help but notice the windows are papered up. Anyone have any idea as to what is going on there?

Chuck Hughes from Garde Manger Opening New Restaurent in Old Montreal?
I overheard a conversation in which someone said Chuck Hughes from Garde Manger is in the midst of opening up a new restaurant east of the current restaurant on St. Paul in Old Montreal. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Pizzeria Magpie
That is annoying that certain things were forgotten, and the service was iffy. The important part here is that, the mistake was recognized, and Vuk took the initiative to make it up to you, as customers. It really says a lot about a restaurant, when the staff takes it upon themselves to make sure that you are satisfied and taken care of. Sure, restaurants make mistakes, and it’s annoying, but its how the staff deals with the situation that is important, and I think Vuk did a great job here. No excuses for the comment by the waitress, that was just unnecessary and rude.
little familial Italian?
Tried Nonno's with friends this past weekend and was not particularly impressed. We were looking to feed a craving for delicious and heavy pasta/pizza somewhere where we could bring our own wine. We called the always good, "Piatto Pieno" but they were completely booked, so we figured we would try Nonno's. The atmosphere is very banquet hall-esque, filled with families, kids, and little babies. Pizza was comparable to a 99 cent pizza, but with a double heaping of arugula on top, the gnocchi was fair, and the fried shrimp was OK (but it's fried, so how bad could it be?). One of our dinner guests ordered the table d'hote, so we all shared his tiramisu...meh at best. The bill was 40 bucks for one margherita pizza with arugula, and gnocchi. We won’t be back in the foreseeable future.
Little Italy suggestions..
