Recs needed for breakfast and dinner in downtown PDX.

Oh, don't eat at Multinomah Lodge or Bonneville Hotel or Tad's Chicken although they all have lovely views of the Gorge.

If you are going to the Gorge and bringing a picnic, Horse Tail Falls is lovely, with a picnic table right next to the falls, no hiking. Also, if you aren't huge hikers and don't want to spend all day hiking, Wahkeena/Fairy Falls is a 2 mile total in and out hike and it's BEAUTIFUL.

If you are going to Multinomah Falls, and then hitting a couple of smaller falls, just bring a snack and have lunch in Stevenson, WA. Always nice to say you crossed over the "Bridge of the Gods". I recommend you try Walking Man Brewing if you like beer, they are one of the top craft beer places in the world and they have very decent food.

Skamania lodge Cascade room has one of the most spectacular views of the Gorge, and the food during lunch is reasonable tasty. I once had brunch there and looked out at the Gorge with a triple rainbow.

Soft shell crab

I really like the softshell from Acadia, they fly them in fresh and the preparation is top notch. ]http://www.creolapdx.com/acadias-regular-dinner-menu/

Also, a lot of the Chinese and Japanese restaurants have them, but it may not be the preparation style you are looking for

Back in Portland after 6 years, need recs of ....

I've always had good luck at Sinju and Hama Sushi on Sandy for fresh sushi. Otherwise, everywhere else is nothing special, except Murata, which is fantastic but also $$.

just moved to Beaverton - need food help, big time

You must try Sanchez's carnita sopas. They are heavenly, the carnita are moist yet still with the salty crunchy bits that make carnita so good. Their sopas are light, soft and crunchy on the bottom, highly addictive.

Portland (PDX): Good regional lunch spot

I agree with sambamaster, Portland is just not a pizza, bagel, chili or barbecue town. There are so many other places that have much better representative foods of the region, Paley's Place, Wildwood, Higgens, I just can see coming to Portland for pizza. I've lived here for 10 years and had pizza everywhere and am vaguely unsatisfied. When I want good pizza, I generally go back to the east coast to get it.

The one exception is Pizza Fino in Kenton, for $2 a slice, it's as close to what I used to get back home, but it's probably because Linda the owner is from Brooklyn. Her crust is just about perfect, chewy and not floppy with delish toppings without the line and hype.

PDX this weekend...the goods?

I agree, my last visit to Ten01 was underwhelming. Although some of their dishes were quite good, the timing of the meal was way off, 2.5 hours for dinner, apps and drinks for 4 on a Thursday night was unacceptable.

Red velvet cake alternative

Jumping into your post over a year later, I have tried this recipe, and it was bright red and authentic tasting.
