This is more than helpful forklaw. Thank you. We love thai and I'm thinking the hibachi may be a good idea too. I bet my DD would love that especially since she just did a unit in school on Japan.

And since we will be moving in August I am glad you mentioned some places in strip malls and shopping centers. Just good to get a sense of things. I really appreciate the many recommendations. Thank you.

Looking for a casual yet nice place for dinner with our 6 year old in downtown Somerville/Somerset (visiting area pre-move so I'm not familiar with the area). No pizza please. Child is well behaved and fairly adventurous---we do enjoy ethnic. Nothing fancy.

I've never even heard of this place. And yet I am familiar with Restaurant Eve and Eamons. I'll check it out. Thank you.

Irish Soda Bread

I bought it 6 years ago from WF and it was fantastic. Ever since then it has been horrible (gve up the last two years). Since I don't feel like making it myself is there a place in the DC/NOVA area for me to get a good one?

Whenever "X" Happens, I Always Eat "Y" - More Unique Examples

I hated both milk and chocolate until I was nursing. Then I had MAD cravings for both. The milk craving went away after about 6 months. The dark chocolate stayed for about 2 years. Now I'm pregnant again and neither appeal. Hormones.

We went this summer and for the price and hype I was very underwhelmed. Won't be back.

What size bamboo steamer for 14" wok?

That is the wok I have.

I was planning to use the steamer for dim sum. I just took a class yesterday and saw them use the bamboo steamers which I have never used before.

Your information is very helpful and I really appreciate it!!

Korean BBQ with charcoal grills--Annandale

DH LOVES pan-fried pork dumplings at A&J.

Korean BBQ with charcoal grills--Annandale

I can't say. I have had it only one time in my life and that was at Bon Chon about 2 years ago. I don't even know what makes one traditional or authentic. I love nian gao in any form at Chinese places so I just kind of assumed I would like dduk bboki. I plan to order it at Han Gang this coming Saturday and will report back on flavors and texture.

I've never had mandu either but my Korean hairdresser said that if I really like Korean (which I do) that I must try mandu. Thing is i REALLY like Chinese too and dumplings are not among my "must have dishes".

Steve---By any chance have you had the mandu or the dduk bboki at Han Gang? I love dduk bboki and the mandu dumplings are for DH (if I say I'm ordering dumplings I find he is more open to trying the other things I order). Planning on the spicy pork too!

Thanks! Han Gang is actually at the top of my list to try. Do they have table top grills there?

Korean BBQ with charcoal grills--Annandale

Awhile back someone mentioned a good Korean BBQ that had charcoal grills at the tables. Which place was that? DH would like to try Korean BBQ with the charcoal.

Thanks.

Korean Cooking Classes in the NOVA/DC are?

Thanks---I actually found the same thing late last night after I posted. However, my husband is going to be out of town one of the dates which means I have babysitting duty.

Also, if the class is in the evening I'd like to find one closer to Alexandria (where I live). During the day I can travel just about anywhere. I'll keep searching.

Thanks again.

Alexandria, VA suggestions?

I live a block from Old Town and it kills me to say that it is not the best for dining. DH and I have one favorite, Bastille. It is french but not traditional. The food is local, fresh, and we have yet to have a bad meal (only one salad we did not care for). It's unpretentious---we've seen groups come in wearing jeans. No one cares. My favorite appetizer there are the shrimp beignets with a dipping sauce. If your not a vegan I recommend them. Fish is always outstanding.

We really enjoyed Jackson 20 (it's on King St. in one of the hotels). Many tourists, very casual.

I have not been to the famous Restaurant Eve but that is not casual.

The best ethnic is out in the burbs. I would try to eat downtown if you don't have access to a car.

Maybe some others have had better luck than I have in Old Town.

Help me find this Chinese dish NOVA/DC

scoopG---I just pulled out a note from my friend and that is EXACTLY what I am after!!

Where did you take those pics? Anywhere in the DC area? Goodness I hope so!!!

I did venture to A&J on CHristmas and tried the beef in sesame pastry (hard cold beef and hard flavorless pastry) and the pan fried beef bun (moist, juicy, and tasty though not what I was initially after when I posted my original question.)

Anxiously awaiting your reply.

I will.

Is the sticky rice 'fan tuan'? I saw a picture from A&J labeled 'fan tuan' and it looked like something I would like. It's not on the menu so I am assuming it's a weekend Northern breakfast special.

Where can i find almond flour?

Trader Joe's in the baking isle. They have the best price. Ask for help finding it---sometimes they are out but they can order more for you. WF and My Organic Market also carry it but it's very expensive.

Help me find this Chinese dish NOVA/DC

Thanks for the website recs. My husband will be thrilled.

Just the other day I saw the same photos on Urbanspoon and it looks like the sesame biscuit with beef is pretty similar to what I'm searching for. I have not been to Joe's noodle in years but wondered if the black pepper and onion beef pastry might be similar. I'm hoping DH likes the sesame biscuit with beef at A&J---I'm trying t get him to move past the pan fried pork dumplings. They are delicious but there is so much more to CHinese food than pork dumplings!

We're going to A&J on CHristmas so I plan to try the niu rou xian bing then. It sounds like it will fit the bill even if it is not the exact same thing.

I just came off of three months of living on gatorade and applesauce (hyper-emetic first trimester) so just about anything on the A&J menu will taste good to me.

Thank you again. :)

Two Ethiopian places just off 395/DukeSt - anybody been?

This doesn't help when dining at the restaurant but we had some much injera left that I stuck the leftovers in the fridge and the next morning it had a MUCH stronger sour flavor. I loved it that way.
