French Dinner in Philly? Private room for 12 needed

Thanks everyone! We have a reservation at Le Cheri and I'm thrilled! It seems to be the perfect venue with the perfect menu (and the perfect name as I mentioned earlier the person's dog was named Cheri). I really appreciate y'alls help with suggestions. I let you know how it goes.

As a summary for others, I called the following to see whether they have a private room:

Bistro La Minette - yes (couldn't take us that night)
Parc - no
Townsend - not for 12. She was confusing if they could accommodate other size parties. I didn't clarify since I needed it for 12.
Good King Tavern - no
Le Cheri - yes and can order off full menu ($100 to reserve private room but all $100 goes as donation to The Art Alliance)
Lacroix - yes. Limited menu.
Four Seasons (from another event I organized but party was about same size) - yes but very limited menu back then

Thanks for the suggestions. Only been to BST once and it was such a dismal failure of a meal I can't imagine trying it again. I will say it was Restaurant Week but they didn't do themselves any favor by participating if that wasn't evenly slightly typical. A meal that was so bad that instead of being forgettable it was memorable but in the wrong way.

Savannah - 45 Bistro or Elizabeth's or Cha Bella?

Thanks! Been to OPH several times and enjoyed it but we're looking for something different and new (to us). SO is leaning towards Eliz's...so I think that's where we'll go! It won't few more weeks due to scheduling so no final decision yet.

French Dinner in Philly? Private room for 12 needed

Another great idea! But alas they don't take parties of 12 since they don't have access to the upstairs room.

We lived in Philly for many many years but no longer do so I'm not familiar with all these places. I can't wait to try the GKT on my next visit anyway....it looks like a fun place.

Waiting on reply call from Le Cheri.

Any other thoughts?

French Dinner in Philly? Private room for 12 needed

Have to plan a family memorial service for a relative who passed away. There will be 12 people attending and we'd like a private room so different people can stand up and give a tribute without disrupting other patrons. We'd like outstanding food too as this person was quite the foodie. Price isn't important here. We'd prefer a French flair and not looking for ethnic.

Her favorite places were Le Bec Fin (back when it was THE place to go) and Lacroix. She visited France often and had several famous French chefs as friends. We held her 80th birthday party at Lacroix and it was divine. For some reason would prefer to try something different. Tried Bistrot la Minette and sadly they are booked for that night. It isn't for more than a month so I have a little time to plan.

Any other ideas for where we could dine?

Savannah - 45 Bistro or Elizabeth's or Cha Bella?

Am relatively new resident to Savannah and looking for wonderful meal. Family member recently passed away and someone is paying for a special meal for my SO and myself to spend an evening remembering all the great foodie meals we had with the deceased.. Grew up in Philly and ate at a lot of the top restaurants there. Haven't had a chance to explore the 'special' restaurants in Savannah.

If someone was paying the tab and told you to go have dinner at the best restaurant in Savannah, where would you go?

Private Dining Room, Great Food for 12 people in Cherry Hill area

Have to plan a family memorial service for a relative who passed away. There will be 12 people attending and we'd like a private room so different people can stand up and give a tribute without disrupting other patrons. We'd like outstanding food too as this person was quite the foodie. Price isn't important here. We'd prefer a French flair but don't think we'll find that unless we go to Philly (which we might). Not looking for ethnic. However, we'd rather stay in SJ since there will be a lot of drinking. (yes, taxis will be called if needed). Only suggestion a friend has given is Capital Grille, which seems like a decent option, although I've never been.

LBI Bachelorette Dinner?

My daughter is hosting a bachelorette party on LBI this August for two nights. They will be staying in Surf City. Any recommendations for dining? I can't think of any 'reasonably priced' good meals that would be a fun place for them to go to

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Anybody been to Trattoria Giuseppe in Edgemont?

Yelp is right on with the good food and sometimes spotty service. It can also be noisy and can have long lines to get in if you don't make a reservation. I also agree with arepo that you might need to read lips if you go during a popular time.

Having said that, I used to meet friends there during 'off hours' and we really enjoyed it. Just pick your time wisely and you'll have a nice meal with your friends. If it has to be something like 7pm on a Saturday, choose another restaurant.

First trip to NOLA from a former Philly Chowhound

Recently moved from Philly to Savannah. Spending a few days in NOLA and so excited for a vacation. Going to be staying at the Holiday Inn on Dauphine St.

Have reservations one night for Peche. Jager Haus looks like it's near our hotel and looks like fun...even for breakfast

What recs do you have for us? We like reasonably priced food...esp where the locals go. Don't need the fancy expensive 'been there' restaurants.,,just really good food.

We will be there for 3 lunch, 2 dinner and 2 breakfast.

Thx for your help.

Plymouth Meeting Mall Lunch

Have a meeting next to the Plymouth Meeting Mall just after lunch one day. Wondering if there is decent food at the mall or within a pretty close drive where I could have lunch. Not that familiar with the area. Looked at the mall listings and nothing looked inspiring. My thought was either WFood takeout or maybe Redstone Grill. I like anything but esp ethnic. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

The Arlington in Ship Bottom on LBI?

Thanks.

I wondered about the Little Bite's dinner and actually keep forgetting that they do this. We like their hoagies and other foods...think it's good quality so am willing to give them a try for dinner, esp since it's walking distance for us. Is there anything you esp like there?

The Arlington in Ship Bottom on LBI?

Just saw an ad for The Arlington in the Sandpaper. This place opened up in July where the Bayberry was (never went there). We're intrigued by the menu but it's a little pricey. Anyone been? Worth the cost? Thanks

Williams Sonoma Balsamic Vinegar

For years I've been addicted to the W-S 25 year old Olivier Balsamic vinegar to make my daily salad dressing, always making sure I had a few extra bottles in the cupboard. Well, as I'm down to my last bottle, I decided to replenish only to learn that W-S no longer sells this product. They are using the same bottle and stores say it's the same but the online reviews on W-S of this product all say that the vinegar is now watery and not nearly the same quality. I'm not willing to waste my money

So does anyone know where I can find this same vinegar? Is it the same if I buy it directly from Olivier?

Somewher wonderful to stop and cut the trip from Bangor to NJ

How about Mystic Seaport (MS) in CT? We have often used that as a stopping point between Maine and NJ...I can't say we've had any great meals at the MS itself (but to be fair, it's been years since we've tried so you might ask on the board which covers CT) but there are several good ethnic restaurants. And we have enjoyed every visit we've had meandering thru the MS. If you aren't going into the seaport, this might not be the right spot.

how to address a bad meal? and lack of manager attention.

Write a very nice letter, mentioning that it was your third visit. Explain your frustrations and see what they do. If they care, they'll reply. If not, nothing lost.

City Center Non-Chain gluten free options?

My SO is GF (by choice) as of Oct. 1 and we recently had two wonderful meals at Zahav, one of Philly's finest and most unique restaurants. They are very GF aware so that might be a good destination to consider. Not sure where you are staying but likely to be a short taxi ride.

Overnight in Savannah off of I 95 with 10 year old.

you definitely could go into downtown savannah and find lots of intersting places....none of which are too far off of 95 (maybe 20 min).

Closer to 95 is Sam Snead's. Although the name has 'tavern' in it, it isn't a typical bar and your 10 yr old would be fine.

Good luck

Bread Making Supplies

Whole Foods carries many of the items you mention. If Whole Food doesn't have a specific item, they might order a case and put what you don't want on a shelf. They did that for me for two Bob's items about two years ago.

Zahav

I had read that the Mezibah is a lot of food and that's why we didn't pre-order it. We actually were downtown for an early, one hour Cocktail Party where we suspected there would be some but not much food. The party actually had a lot more food than 'advertised' and we could have stayed for dinner but I was thrilled to get to Zahav. Can't wait to try the lamb in a few weeks.

Zahav

I have lived in the Philly suburbs for many years but for some reason had never made it to Zahav. It's been on my list for years. Well, this weekend we finally went and my expectations were pretty high. Incredibly they not only met my expectations but exceeded them. The food was delicious and the service was spot on. I had wanted to pre-order the Mesibah but my dining partners said no as there were some Grilled Dishes they wanted to try. As delicious as everything we had was, we all regretted not trying the lamb.

And so? We will be going back in a few weeks adding 2 more to our group and trying the Mesibah. I can't wait.

Yes you can. It is on D'artagnan's website that you can bring in the fresh foie gras to CA...just can't sell it.
