Anybody been to Trattoria Giuseppe in Edgemont?

Yelp is right on with the good food and sometimes spotty service. It can also be noisy and can have long lines to get in if you don't make a reservation. I also agree with arepo that you might need to read lips if you go during a popular time.

Having said that, I used to meet friends there during 'off hours' and we really enjoyed it. Just pick your time wisely and you'll have a nice meal with your friends. If it has to be something like 7pm on a Saturday, choose another restaurant.

First trip to NOLA from a former Philly Chowhound

Recently moved from Philly to Savannah. Spending a few days in NOLA and so excited for a vacation. Going to be staying at the Holiday Inn on Dauphine St.

Have reservations one night for Peche. Jager Haus looks like it's near our hotel and looks like fun...even for breakfast

What recs do you have for us? We like reasonably priced food...esp where the locals go. Don't need the fancy expensive 'been there' restaurants.,,just really good food.

We will be there for 3 lunch, 2 dinner and 2 breakfast.

Thx for your help.

Plymouth Meeting Mall Lunch

Have a meeting next to the Plymouth Meeting Mall just after lunch one day. Wondering if there is decent food at the mall or within a pretty close drive where I could have lunch. Not that familiar with the area. Looked at the mall listings and nothing looked inspiring. My thought was either WFood takeout or maybe Redstone Grill. I like anything but esp ethnic. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

The Arlington in Ship Bottom on LBI?

Thanks.

I wondered about the Little Bite's dinner and actually keep forgetting that they do this. We like their hoagies and other foods...think it's good quality so am willing to give them a try for dinner, esp since it's walking distance for us. Is there anything you esp like there?

The Arlington in Ship Bottom on LBI?

Just saw an ad for The Arlington in the Sandpaper. This place opened up in July where the Bayberry was (never went there). We're intrigued by the menu but it's a little pricey. Anyone been? Worth the cost? Thanks

Williams Sonoma Balsamic Vinegar

For years I've been addicted to the W-S 25 year old Olivier Balsamic vinegar to make my daily salad dressing, always making sure I had a few extra bottles in the cupboard. Well, as I'm down to my last bottle, I decided to replenish only to learn that W-S no longer sells this product. They are using the same bottle and stores say it's the same but the online reviews on W-S of this product all say that the vinegar is now watery and not nearly the same quality. I'm not willing to waste my money

So does anyone know where I can find this same vinegar? Is it the same if I buy it directly from Olivier?

Somewher wonderful to stop and cut the trip from Bangor to NJ

How about Mystic Seaport (MS) in CT? We have often used that as a stopping point between Maine and NJ...I can't say we've had any great meals at the MS itself (but to be fair, it's been years since we've tried so you might ask on the board which covers CT) but there are several good ethnic restaurants. And we have enjoyed every visit we've had meandering thru the MS. If you aren't going into the seaport, this might not be the right spot.

how to address a bad meal? and lack of manager attention.

Write a very nice letter, mentioning that it was your third visit. Explain your frustrations and see what they do. If they care, they'll reply. If not, nothing lost.

City Center Non-Chain gluten free options?

My SO is GF (by choice) as of Oct. 1 and we recently had two wonderful meals at Zahav, one of Philly's finest and most unique restaurants. They are very GF aware so that might be a good destination to consider. Not sure where you are staying but likely to be a short taxi ride.

Overnight in Savannah off of I 95 with 10 year old.

you definitely could go into downtown savannah and find lots of intersting places....none of which are too far off of 95 (maybe 20 min).

Closer to 95 is Sam Snead's. Although the name has 'tavern' in it, it isn't a typical bar and your 10 yr old would be fine.

Good luck

Bread Making Supplies

Whole Foods carries many of the items you mention. If Whole Food doesn't have a specific item, they might order a case and put what you don't want on a shelf. They did that for me for two Bob's items about two years ago.

Whole Foods in Cherry Hill?

Heard a rumor that a Whole Foods is coming to the Ellisburg Circle in Cherry Hill but can't find confirmation on WF's website. Anyone know any details?

Zahav

I had read that the Mezibah is a lot of food and that's why we didn't pre-order it. We actually were downtown for an early, one hour Cocktail Party where we suspected there would be some but not much food. The party actually had a lot more food than 'advertised' and we could have stayed for dinner but I was thrilled to get to Zahav. Can't wait to try the lamb in a few weeks.

Zahav

I have lived in the Philly suburbs for many years but for some reason had never made it to Zahav. It's been on my list for years. Well, this weekend we finally went and my expectations were pretty high. Incredibly they not only met my expectations but exceeded them. The food was delicious and the service was spot on. I had wanted to pre-order the Mesibah but my dining partners said no as there were some Grilled Dishes they wanted to try. As delicious as everything we had was, we all regretted not trying the lamb.

And so? We will be going back in a few weeks adding 2 more to our group and trying the Mesibah. I can't wait.

Yes you can. It is on D'artagnan's website that you can bring in the fresh foie gras to CA...just can't sell it.

Costco Kirkland Chocolate Chips

My favorite store brand is Trader Joe's. Hands down. Much less expensive and tastier than the name brands. Just moved from a town where TJs is 15 min away to one where TJs is 2 hours away. Am back visiting friends in my old neighborhood and my errand list tomorrow includes a trip to TJs to get those chips ...YUM!

Food markets in western suburbs? (nearish Broomall)

Since you mentioned a preference for organic, I thought I'd make a couple of comments. I also have a preference for organic and around here you might need to resort to a chain for that, The most reliable source of organic is at Whole Foods in Devon. However the Giant in Broomall can have a decent selection. Gentile's has its merits, but I rarely see organic there. I think Pete's, while not organic, is so fresh that it might be worth the drive.

I also frequent the Wayne (Strafford) Farmers Market (open W, F, Sa). It is very near the Devon Whole Foods so what I can't get at one place, I can get at the other. Rittenhouse Farm's chickens at the Farmers Market are fresh and anti-biotic/hormone free and I think are much better in taste and value than WF. But I think the meat is better at WF. So I bring a cooler and buy some things at one place, put in cooler and then go shop at the other.

Lunch in Princeton during the week

Wow! Thanks everyone for all the suggestions! I love the variety as I'm game for about anything and I don't know her preferences. You've made my planning a whole lot easier!

I used to live an hour from P'ton and would visit occasionally with my SO on nice days but couldn't remember any names.

All your suggestions are much appreciated!

Lunch in Princeton during the week

Meeting my old college roommate in Princeton for lunch. She's not much of a foodie, but I am known to be a bit finicky about the food. It doesn't have to be high end...just good quality ingredients that are well prepared. She's pretty frugal so not sure an expensive meal would be her thing. So I guess I'm looking for suggestions of somewhere to go that isn't overly expensive, has good quality/interesting food, and where they wouldn't mind if we sit and chat for awhile. Ethnic suggestions would be welcome as well.

UPenn Weekend..need great ideas to take out really great son!

If you go to Sabrina's for breakfast. Be aware that the portions are HUGE! However, they let you order half-portions even thou it's not on the menu as an option. I think it's something like half the portion for 2/3 the price...not a huge price savings but you don't feel like you are wasting food either.

The Silver Spoon in Wayne

Have had 3 different lunches at SS...once a year ago with SO and it was VERY loud and really cold (hot hot summer day) and food was okay. Food didn't make up for the loud noise. Was invited to a party there of about 12 in May and I was impressed. I decided my first impression was wrong. They handled the large group well and everyone enjoyed it. Don't know whether the other patrons thought we were too noisy or not but no one seemed upset. So a few weeks later when a friend wanted to try a new place (to her) for lunch I suggested SS. I had a sandwich which was good and a reasonable size (altho a little pricey), and my friend ordered a beet salad for $12. Her salad was miniscule at best! An ant wouldn't have been full. My skinny friend (who couldn't each much) asked if that was really how large it was supposed to be and was told yes. I encouraged her to order something else but she wouldn't. So would I go back? Nah. Food was decent but if you aren't careful, you could end up with a very noisy lunch if it's busy and if you order the wrong thing, you'll leave hungry.
