What is your favorite hard to find candy?
MysticYoYo, I just ordered for a second time the Napoleon Lemon Sours, discovered here.
They are outstanding.
Ben & Jerrys, Haagen Dazs, Baskin Robbins or Cold Stone Creamery?
I don't like Cold Stone creamery because they're a gimmick, and don't like Ben and Jerry's because they sold out to the 'man', and Baskins Robbins is an inferior product, imo, so I go with Haagen Dazs every time.
I've never been disappointed with their cakes.
No to the grocery stores and Carvel, unless you have a realllllly good grocery store near you.
What is your favorite hard to find candy?
Kookaburra is apparently real licorice, Twizzlers and their ilk are not.
PBS Breakfast Special - Where Was This Place?
Looks like it was the Tin Shed:

Have you ever asked to be moved to the bar partway through lunch?
Not to worry, john333. You are a faaar better person for being concerned than those out there who think it fine to speak loudly on their cellphones during dinner or otherwise disregard or look down upon their fellow human beings.
I commend you.
Breakfast just outside NYC off Taconic
Yup, Wobble Cafe is better than I-84 and light years better than City Limits.
For most convenient, I'd have to go with Taghkanic Diner in Ancram.

City Limits

Breakfast just outside NYC off Taconic
The I84 diner is more convenient than the City Limits Diner. If White Plains is preferred, the White Plains diner is better than the City Limits.
And if all else fails, there's the Taghkanic Diner in Ancram.
Breakfast just outside NYC off Taconic
Over City Limits? You betcha.
But The 84 Diner is better than The Eldorado, I admit it.
Breakfast just outside NYC off Taconic
The 84 Diner in Fishkill is vastly superior to City Limits and the prices are much, much better.
Oh, and if you want places closer to NYC that are vastly superior and cheaper than City Limits, you have The Star and The Eldorado in WP and Elmsford, respectively.
Beacon's blessings...
Poppy's Burger sounds good, I'll have to recommend them to our upstate friends next time we dine together.
Have you tried Brothers Trattoria in Beacon? It's a very good Italian restaurant. Try it next time you pass through.
Interesting on Zora Dora, it sounds like the paleterias that are all over Westchester and beloved by some.
Should we rethink tipping?
Are the servers paid a salary? Do they have a union? Do they get health benefits?
If no to all of the above, then I'm surprised they are not surly and disagreeable on getting 10% (and that's higher end, what do the smaller places charge?). I would be.
BTW, the U.S. servers are paid spit, have no union, and have no health benefits. They deserve my 20%+ tips.
Real Italian Food Vs. American Italian Food
Spot on, Alfred G. Yes you can, especially in Westchester. One need never set foot in a chain, and with a very few exceptions, not of my own choosing, I never have...........and never will.
OMG...Dreyer's Drumstick Ice Cream
Okay, done and done. Submitted my complaint via email.
By the way, did you all know there was propylene glycol in this chemical abomination? No outrage on the whey? How about on the propylene glycol?
This is a McDonald's shake for home consumption. Nary an 'ice' or a 'cream' to be found.
Incredible.
servers commenting on how much we ate - rude?
..........But if it's a chicken-fried steak the way I like it, I make no apologies and pay no attention to server comments, it's feed-bag-on time.
Count your lucky stars. There is no chicken fried steak in Westchester and we are the poorer for it. If there were, neither heaven nor earth nor any server (mind you, I've never had one who hurt my feelings, only horrifically rude ones) could stop me from also strapping on the feed bag.
ISO excellent non-chain ice cream, anywhere in Westchester
Not bad, you're right, especially if they're good.
Mighty Joe Young's Hartsdale/White Plains, NY closed??
Actually, it looks like they are on this site as a 'sponsored link' hawking their coupons, which is not an auspicious start imo.

TEHO.
Uses for Whey - the Real Deal, Not Powder
Based on the 'frozen dairy dessert' I'm eating, you can make an ice cream-like product with it.
But, yes you're right, it is disgusting.
New Mexican Restaurant in Hartsdale
I love it. Very funny, foodlad.
P.S. I hope you're kidding.
New Mexican Restaurant in Hartsdale
Charge for chips and salsa??????????????
What a hoot. You can't make this stuff up.
OMG...Dreyer's Drumstick Ice Cream
"So. How DOES Edy's get away with this?"
Answer. Edy's Drumstick is marked as a 'frozen dairy dessert'. Mystery solved.
How did I solve the mystery? They fooled me not just once but twice, so it was my fault.
It was on 'sale' - $2.47 for 48 ounces of a whey frozen dairy dessert, whoopee - and I saw 'root beer float', and thought, well it has no junk in it, so how bad could it be. Not remembering the 'whey' issue, I bought it. I checked out the label on the way home - yup, frozen dairy dessert, not ice cream at all - and once home read the lovely 'whey' first ingredient before I tasted it.
Hopefully, they will refund my money when I call them, it's that bad.
Have you ever asked to be moved to the bar partway through lunch?
No, I haven't and of course you could have. It's your lunch, your money, you should be as comfortable as humanly possible.
On the tip -- just seek out the original waiter and hand him the tip. Otherwise, add it to your credit card bill.
Why do we tip?
Thanks, sliding! I'll have to try the milk trick next time I make a margarita for DH.
I thought it was a simple request -- MM Sidecar, up, cold, with sugar on the rim. It came back with the usual brandy and no sugar. It may have happened that the server only caught the word 'sidecar' and not the others, since the place was very busy.
Bubbles on the bottom -- I haven't heard that one in years, my uncle used to say that. I guess it was funny in the 1950s....... :o)
Why do we tip?
Some countries do, don't they? I think it's a great idea.
Except I would call it a 'waitperson' union.
New Mexican Restaurant in Hartsdale
I agree, who better to recommend a restaurant than Paul Feiner!
Why do we tip?
Exactly. Not only do they have to serve the public, they have to be underpaid (no pension, no health benefits) and abused and undertipped in the process.
