Restaurant Rec [for a small office of 6 HOLIDAY LUNCH] in Flatiron/Chelsea/Gramercy/Union Square area

No clue, they are kind of close minded and have pre-conceived notions about things without further investigation. They tend to judge by the cover. We're casting directors, so that what we do.

I never said tablecloths were uptight, I'm pretty sure someone just assumed that along the way.

Restaurant Rec [for a small office of 6 HOLIDAY LUNCH] in Flatiron/Chelsea/Gramercy/Union Square area

Thanks everyone - I printed out some menus and am going to show them to the group. As for Giorgio's - we order in from there all the time. I know for a fact they wont want to go there to eat. Thanks though!

I like the idea of ABC kitchen because we can shop afterwards or before!

I've only gotten pastries from Maialino and have never eaten there. Would you say it's too uptight for the group?

Restaurant Rec [for a small office of 6 HOLIDAY LUNCH] in Flatiron/Chelsea/Gramercy/Union Square area

We're a small office of 6 that is more like a family. We do a Holiday lunch every year and exchange small gifts. We're located on 27th & Broadway and prefer to travel away from midtown so Flatiron, Chelsea, Union Square and Gramercy is best. I recommended a few places to everyone but they got shot down for being too "uptight" (Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, Gotham Bar & Grill and Del Posto). So alas I have come to Chow for advice.

Here are the requirements:

- Open for lunch on December 22nd
- Near[ish] 27th & Broadway
- $35 or under per person (not including drinks)
- relaxed/fun environment (NOT UPTIGHT), we tend to laugh a lot
- varied menu for the picky eaters
- can accommodate a table of 6 people with gifts

Please help me out!!!

*BEST* Coq Au Vin/French Resto - For birthday dinner?

It's that time of year again where I need to find a restaurant for my birthday! This year I am coming well prepared with very specific needs! I will bullet them and price is not an issue.

- Anywhere between Flatiron/Chelsea and the West Village (So basically mid to lower west side of Manhattan)
- Regular A La Carte menu available (we don't eat enough for prixe fix and are known to share)
- Amazing Coq Au Vin (been on a kick ever since I had it at DB Bistro Moderne)
- Known for great desserts or at least make them there and don't fall flat in that area.
- Good for special occasions

If my needs are too specific please list French restaurants without Coq Au Vin too!
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Custard selection for OCT at Shake Shack

I am eating a Hopscotch concrete with pumpkin spice custard from Shake Shack right now. My co-worker tasted it and said it was a really solid choice. I need to confess that it really is one of the most delicious flavored custards I have ever had. GO GET IT!

I really want to know what the Shakenstein flavor is though. They only serve it on Sunday :(

Foodie Staying for 3 nights and 3 1/2 days in Miami/South Beach Oct.8-11

I am going on vacation to South Beach during the long Columbus day weekend. I love finding new restaurants and hidden gems. We are Willing to take cabs/public transit, price is not an issue and we're not big drinkers (a nice selection beer is a plus though) . I also appreciate cheap ethnic eats that only the locals know about. We love breakfast and most likely will have small snack like lunches (does Miami have street food/trucks?) and bigger dinners. We are also really into ice cream and dessert. Ideally, I would like to have a big wowie zowie blowout dinner on Saturday night. The one limitation is that my boyfriend doesn't eat pork or seafood without scales, so there would have to be things on the menu for him too.

Please let me know if there are any more details you need!

Looking for a a small intimate gem on the LES

Thanks everyone for the recommendations! I forgot to mention not too pricey, we're starving artist types that enjoy good food but not a big check. We don't drink so I know that will keep the price down.

Looking for a a small intimate gem on the LES

I am going on a first date and we would like to hear each other talking and be able to have an intimate conversation. I suggested Piadina and then the Smith but he didn't want to go there. He suggested Essex and Stanton Social but we both agreed they were too loud and trendy. So now we are at a loss for ideas. The requirements are excellent food, intimate environment, friendly wait service and on the LES. Any ideas?

Fun place to eat in Nassau County?

Ok Millers is for college kids and all the food is fried and covered in cheese. It's like good if you want to go to a sports bar and feel like you're in middle america. I am 28 and I don't find it enjoyable at all.

I think if you go to any good restaurant during the WEEKEND you will find it loud and fun, and make sure you bring good company.

Besito- Roslyn or Huntington
Coolfish- Jericho/Syosset (they sometimes have live music)
Nisen- Woodbury
Dino's Joint- Melville on route 110
West End Cafe- Carle Place
Smokin Al's- Babylon
Eddies [Pizza]- Williston Park
Graffiti- Woodbury
The Library- Farmingdale (i can only vouch for their cocktails which were delicious, great mixologis)
Blackstones- Melville
Novita- Garden City

Anywhere in the town of Huntington and Rockville Centre on Friday and Saturday nights.

Whimsical restaurant for my birthday!

So last year I went to Artisanal for my birthday because I love cheese. However it just didn't seem special enough. This year I was thinking of going to Sweetiepie but I haven't hear much about it. I like how whimsical and fun it seems but is the food any good? What else would you recommend for a cheese loving, child at heart, whimsical 28 year old to be? Price and location aren't an issue, I just want it to stand out and be special. Also perhaps a place with an inventive mixologist too.

BREAKFAST you fast we all want to break fast in SANTA MONICA!

We ate at bread and porridge. It was delicious and everyone was pleasantly surprised. I couldn't order the eggs benedict because it is only served on weekends. My brother loved his banana pecan pancakes but wished that there were actual pieces of the aforementioned ingredients instead of just the flavor. The portions were pretty huge and the red roasted potatoes were delicious and I don't usually like potatoes. My one complaint is that it was a bit pricey and bacon and toast were sold separately as side dishes. I think toast should come with all egg dishes. I had the spinach omelet which was quite tasty but a little greasy. I think if I go again I will ask them to use as little butter/oil as possible. My omelet was so huge though that I couldn't finish it. The service was nice and attentive. All in all a good meal and experience.

Thanks for the recommendations!!! I will try another place this morning, probably in Venice since we fell in love with that area last night.

***UPDATE***

Border Grill- Amazing service and amazing food. It was a lot like a restaurant in New York called Besito. I always refer to it as fancy innovative Mexican. I was hoping for more authenticity, like perhaps going to a Mexican grandmas house for dinner. I still give it 5 stars because everything was delicious and fresh.

Bread and Porridge- great breakfast and very large portions. Kind of expensive though. The omelets were inventive and tasty. My brother would have hoped for pieces of bananas and pecans in his pancakes. They just had the flavor or the aforementioned ingredients.

Taco Baja Encenada- it was worth the 1 hour drive there and the 2 hour drive back!! This felt very authentic and I really felt like I was in Cabo. My brother and I both got the combo plate with the fish taco and shrimp taco. I loved the shrimp taco better and my brother loved the fish taco. It was the best tacos to date for me. We also ordered the rice water drink and it was like drinking rice pudding. It was so delicious and really cut down on the spice of the hot sauce.

Gjelina- WOW the ambiance and decor are amazing. The service was also amazing as well. The sunchoke appetizer was to die for and so was the grilled asparagus salad. We ordered the Gruyere, caramelized onions and arugula pizza which was quite tasty however i did not care for the mushroom, goat cheese and truffle oil pizza. There was an herb on it that really bothered my taste buds. The jewel of this meal was really the butterscotch pudding with fleur de sel. OMG most orgasmic and amazing thing I have ever tasted in my life!!!! I recommend going if only for that!!

So this morning I think we are going to Amandine for breakfast though we might just skip and have zone bars. We have been eating a lot and I don't think my stomach is happy.

BREAKFAST you fast we all want to break fast in SANTA MONICA!

I'm at the Fairmont in Santa Monica which is on the corner of Ocean and Wilshire. Where should we eat breakfast? My brother wants "amazing pancakes" and I would like eggs benedict. We want a place that we can say "wow these are the best pancakes ever!". Help please!

I don't even know what it is but hearing that it closed made me really upset. I was so excited to be like Andrew Zimmern on Bizarre foods and go to an outdoor street vendor market place. However on twitter I think it said some of the vendors are on chicago and 4th. I really hope this is true!

NYer Staying in Santa Monica visiting family in Van Nuys (11/22-11/27)

thanks newyorkguy but I'll have my GPS and family who lives there to show me around!

Also I just realized in my original post that i wrote weather when I meant whether. I hate grammatical errors.

Das Ubergeek- thank you so much! I don't care about ambiance, I just want good food and an experience. I just hope the rest of my family goes for it. Perhaps my brother and I will escape and do our own thing.

sorry about that...they did mention the restaurants and tea rooms at those museums though and I found it quite helpful.

Mr. Taster

1. No I do not-I will check it out though. If I am looking for a place to go in a pinch I usually go to nymag.com or my zagats guide
2. I have partook (is that a word?) in the "gastronomic cornucopia" that is Queens however VIA car and not train. I have friends from lots of different cultures/countries and count on them to guide me in the right direction when it comes to Queens.

I live on long Island and work in Manhattan

NYer Staying in Santa Monica visiting family in Van Nuys (11/22-11/27)

For the week of Thanksgiving I'll be in L.A. We are staying at the Fairmont in Santa Monica and my Family lives in Van Nuys. We love going out to eat and experiencing different atmospheres, cultures and foods. We also love to cook too so we appreciate very well made cuisine along with beautiful presentation. I don't care if there is a social scene, I just care if people go there (and keep coming back) for the food and service. So weather it be a hidden gem or a 5 star restaurant I want to know about it. I love seeing a city the way it's locals see it and not the way it's tourists see it. I hope someone can provide me with great restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner!!

I am planning on going to the Getty Museum for the first time and would love to know some other culturally rich places to explore. I also wouldn't mind some ideas for chill, Brooklyn/hipster vibe night spots that I can hit up with my brother. So if you have ideas for that too I would really appreciate it!

***I'll have a car but don't want to travel more than an hour (40 miles) out of the way. My mom and uncle need to be able to get something plain grilled and steamed for health reasons.
