Any info/input on Concord Ave. Cafe in Cambridge?
I pass by it a few times a week. Not open late. It has been there for awhile. Odd list of specialties on window -Sushi, noodles, lasagna, carrot juice, coffee. I pass by and think "I have to check it out when they are open, just to see whats up." Then I forget about it until I pass by again. The one person I do know who has been says "good dumplings and fresh squeezed juice". This just furthers my confusion. Anyone been? The assumption in the back of my mind is that it is a store front for a wholesale producer of supermarket sushi pre-packs (back in the olden days as a teenager I worked at Barsamian's "gourmet" the sushi was delivered every morning along with spring rolls and dumplings).

Astringent? Tannic? Maybe its just the acidity that balances well with the milk.

I went this morning. 2nd or 3rd day of business. Beautiful latte. Though most of my life has been in Boston and NYC, I spent 4 years in Seattle. I learned what the platonic ideal of a latte is out there. Just enough espresso, and quality fresh steamed milk. The milk should lend a natural sweetness to counter the acid and bitter in espresso. These guys nailed it. Clean space, limited drink menu, nice looking pastries. I live on the opposite side of Cambridge, so this can't be my daily spot. But leaving for work at 7:30 instead of 8 today was worth it. This is the kind of place that every neighborhood in Seattle and Portland has at least one of. I encourage everyone to check it out. Maybe every neighborhood here will have one soon enough if demand exists.
It appears that Armando's now delivers...
I believe this is new. I was in last night and it is still cash only. Any reports? I live close by, so delivery is not an issue for me. However, I worry it may be a sign of trouble (like when a struggling place adds brunch or half price stuff). It may just be that they are 30 years behind the times, and delivery precedes credit cards by a few years...
Very specific need - one dinner one lunch, solo diner West Palm (Hotel Biba is my base)
Whoops, sorry to double post. Went to edit a typo and ended up reposting.
Very specific need - one dinner one lunch, solo diner West Palm (Hotel Biba is my base)
I am coming to town to deal with the move of an aging family member. I am trying to squeeze in 36 hours of personal time before hand as this is all my vacation time I have to spare. Wife is staying behind. I am looking for the most chowish dinner and lunch I can find. For dinner, preferably someplace with bar seating as I am solo. We don't have much Cuban or Caribbean food where I live so that is a good place to start. But when all is said and done, best food (price not an issue within reason) and ability to hang out solo without looking weird.

Cheap Eats [Davis/Teele Square]
3rds on the food. Was great front to back. Goat entree from the Nepalese side rocked. Fresh garlic naan and baingan bharta from Indian side were top notch. $20 is the starting point for wine by the bottle ( a decent Napa pinot). Thoughtful drink list (for this kind of cuisine). Really just a nice place doing nice food at a good price.
January 2012 Openings and Closings
Yeah, the Facebook page implies that is the case. Too bad, it is sort of in my hood and not having to go to one of the other squares for a quick but good meal would be nice. Not complaining, I can walk to TW, Armandos and all of the Porter square and Sherman St. stuff. Always looking for new and improved though.

Best Bolognese in town
Out of left field- Harry's in Brighton. Wild boar belly, lamb and beef. Pappardelle.
Using "Sa Fregula Sarda" ?
IIRC it was a lamb tenderloin. Herb and garlic rubbed, grilled mid rare, sliced and fanned across the fregola. We are talking 2005/2006ish, one of the BR Guest restaurants. Real nice and clean flavors. It was the first I had seen of fregola, as I had limited experience with real Mediterranean food up till then.
Using "Sa Fregula Sarda" ?
When I was a line cook at a chi-chi Manhattan Italian joint, we cooked it with chicken stock, shallots and herbs. Then when cooled mixed with shaved from the cob corn plus thyme and brunoised peppers. It was the side for a lamb dish.
Kaffeklatsch near Alewife?
Unfortunately not much. The Starbucks in the Best Western next to Whole foods sounds like the best bet.
Are Ghost Peppers Actually Used in Indian Cooking?
Having worked in restaurants in Manhattan until a few years ago, I had the chance to work with a number of Bengali immigrants. They told of a pepper that was hot enough that a single chili was hot enough for a communal stew shared by about 50 people during festivals. It was before I had heard of a ghost chili and don't remember if it was called bhut jolokia. If my geography is correct Assam is quite near Bangladesh.
Strange request- Vietnamese, Yorkville, Thanksgiving day lunch
I figured this was the case. Chinatown is for sure the best bet, but it all depends on time. Thanks. Glad to have a Chinatown rec ready to go if we make the trek downtown.
Strange request- Vietnamese, Yorkville, Thanksgiving day lunch
Hi, my wife and I have started a personal tradition of having pho for lunch before we meet up with the rest of the family. We started this a few years ago at my sisters in San Francisco. Last year at my brothers in Portland. I am a lapsed New Yorker, and though my grandparents have lived on the same corner of 87th and 2nd for 30 years, I don't remember seeing anything up in that hood other then noodles 28 which doesn't seem to be around anymore. Due to the arrival time of other family members we don't eat together until 6ish so pho for lunch is a great idea. Any suggestions for pho between 80th and 95th East side?
The Independent, Union Square Somerville: Excellent Upscale Tavern Dinner
Actually Foundry and The Indo are owned by the same guy (I know there is partial ownership at both that are different , but it's essentially the same owner). So the fact that menu items seem similar makes sense.
H Mart [Not] Closed!
It was open last Sunday. The more level headed responses above are probably correct. However the closing appeared so hasty it just made me think.
H Mart [Not] Closed!
I suppose its possible. The Market Basket next door had power and was understandably busy. The wife and I went through a whole list of possibilities, but it is all speculative.
H Mart [Not] Closed!
No idea. This was done quickly and hastily. Displays and carts still outside. Very curious.
H Mart [Not] Closed!
(Since new information in the thread suggests that H Mart hasn't closed, we've edited the thread title to reflect that. See: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/814938#6921052 -- The Chowhound Team)
Pulled up at 3 on Sunday, usually primetime. Empty lot. Crappy homemade sign saying "closed" duct taped to door. Any one know why?
Need recs in Norwalk. Preferably walking distance from Courtyard Marriot.
Thanks for the info. Family gathering on Saturday afternoon, so looking to make a few days out of it. Will try Brasitas Friday night when we arrive and check out SoNo after the event winds down and the Stew Leonard's deli platters disappear.

That's what I thought. I understood the SONO "renaissance" to be on the water. I am dating myself now, but I pictured this strip to be like where the Grand Union was on the Post Road on the Westport side of Stew Leonard's (at least back in the 80's).

Family gathering on Saturday. Arriving Friday early evening. Looking for chowish food that we can walk to from the Courtyard on Main st. The hotel website implies it is in the heart of the"business" district. I grew up there, but left in the early 90s. When I have returned it has been to cousins or uncles houses. I understand the dining scene is way different but am a bit confused on the geography.

"and so it goes"... Don't know how long since you lived here, but Harvard area opens Allston and Brighton delivery options as well, which has most diverse and highest quality of ethnic food choices. Check posts from Allstonian and Jenny Ondioline (sp? sorry) for Allston breakdowns.

A secondary quick glance reveals a number of dogs as well on that site, so perhaps you can use this board to vet your plans.

Their are a number of "subcontractors" that deliver for most restaurants in town. Foodler.com has Zoe's which if you do a chow search you will find they are a beloved "authenticish" Chinese place. A quick scan shows many beloved local spots... pho and rice, Muquequa for Brazilian, and too many Indian, Thai and Korean to go through until you narrow down your request for ethnic food.
Restaurants near Kelton Street in Brighton
They are damn good. Crispy, and legit whole bellies, not clam strips. IIRC they brought in a "real chef" 3 years ago. He actually came from the Met club and left when they called him back to open Newbury St. He actually is the Chef at Hobo now (roommate is former coworker at the Met) I don't know the present chefs background aside from he can be seen at the bar later in the evening and seems to be well liked by the regulars.

I'm surprised it never gets mentioned on this board. While it isn't chow-worthy in the Hungry Mother sense (or even Deep Ellum sense), it is the kind of place that should be known by ch'ers. Really deep beer list, legit food (the $2 thursday taco special is both a proper al pastor or carne asada type that changes weekly plus the old school old el paso style hard shell ground beef I remember from school lunch). I admit it looks dull, and the 4 to 8 constructions workers there every day from 3 to 5 being loud are a turn off. But the waitresses and bartenders remember your name, the other customers invite you to play pool with them and everyone seems happy to be there.
