celebrating 50th bday in Paris with 6 woman
You're going with 6 women? You are truly a lucky man.
My was only allowed me to spend my 50th with one woman. My wife.
Guy Savoy-what is his signature dish?
Finished dinner there (Paris) just 1 hour ago. Had a very nice supper. I think they referred to the artichoke soup with truffles, warm brioche w/ a schmeer of truffle butter as their signature dish. For $100 it better be.
1st Lunch?
1st Lunch Success: Comptoir
Beautiful early fall sunshine and a table on the sidewalk. Perfect suggestion for my wifes 1st
Moi- Polombe Roti avec les Giroles et Foi Gras - Very nice.
Shallots and fresh chives
Ma Femme- Saumon Roti avec Legume aux Saison - Loved it.
Next up Dinner. Chez Ferand or Au Machon
1st Lunch?
Well I like the sound of this (PhilD) version too. Perhaps I'll mix and match suggestions. How would the following be for a decent 1st day?
Le Comptoir for lunch
&
Chez L'Ami Jean for diner
1st Lunch?
I guess I'll edit my earlier post. Cut down on the muck.
So as long as you're still here, what about that 1st day plan?
Big lunch at...
Chez L'Ami Jean
or
Le Bistrot d'Hubert
Light (ish) Diner...
Cafe Constant or semi close "destination"?
1st Lunch?
Of course I didn't add the fact that we've rented a flat in the 6th next to metro Odeon. I was hoping to stay relatively close to home the 1st day, and is why I thought CLA . It's with in the zone.
"my first meal at lunch was the best meal of the trip and something to be greatly planned for".
- I try to do this the 1st time in any new locale. I think you'll agree, it can set the pace for the rest of the trip.
"I would say that it depends on what sort of shape you and your wife are like 5 hours after landing".
- I'm on pace with you JT, and the great spirited Wendy, a mere 1/2 step behind.
Again agreed. "The trick is to keep moving" theory. Lay down for a moment and your dead meat.
Chez les Anges comments deleted
So would I be safe with... Chez L'Ami Jean or Le Bistrot d'Hubert - Big lunch at maybe 12:00
Cafe Constant - light diner as the haze really starts to settle in around 7 or 8
1st Lunch?
My wife and I arrive very early in the morning off a trans-atlantic flight, and will surely arrive feeling pretty ragged. For my wifes very 1st day ever in Paris I'm trying to find that special Parisienne thing and after reading through a myriad of posts here, I thought that Chez L'Ami Jean might just be that spot.
If the above conclusion is correct, then would CLA (as you all refer to it) be better for lunch, a stroll, and then a nap, or should we do a simple sidewalk cafe for lunch, and wait until diner for CLA?
Please help me soon so I can make a proper reservation.
Thanks for you help. I'm really trying to make this very special for my wife.
Suggestion for a Beautiful Lunch
RL on ST.G Mon Dieu!
Thanks for the Plaza Rec. Sounds like it would be nice for an English afternoon tea.
Suggestion for a Beautiful Lunch
What's the most beautiful place to have lunch, on the most beautiful early fall day in Paris. I know the 1st debate is ambience vs. the food.
Coming to Paris on Thursday. Can anyone help with suggestions?
Inside or out? Terrace, courtyard or dining room with a view?
Le Cinq
Jules Verne (how is JV these days anyway)
Cigale Recamier
Pre Catalan
Grande Cascade
Better for drinks & View:
L'ombre
Cafe L'Homme
Le Ciel de Paris
Very Last Minute Trip to Paris
Well thanks for direction. The Ney's are the most important.
hychka:
That was sort of our intention with Frenchies. A drive by reservation.
John Talbott :
Oh, an entree sized portion of sarcasm. You're a tough crowd. Was that,"Frenchies Yes?", or "yes, it's the poster child?".
Dodo :
To walk south or north to Brasserie Fernand. What dilemas I have.
No thoughts on Guy Savoy?
Any other places I might like?
Very Last Minute Trip to Paris
As it states in the title, Very last minute, so I could use a bit of guidance.
1st time posting on Chow Paris, because the last time I was in Paris... the internet wasn't.
Hey, I've been busy. I lived in Paris for a couple of years, quite some time back and will be returning (next week) with my wife...who's never been to Paris... Mon Dieu!!
I'm not looking to see how many M*'s as we can knock down in a week. Mostly looking for rec's on solid Parisienne Relais et Bistros, and neighborhood gems. A more leisurely experience.
Having said (typed) that, I thought she should experience at least 1 place truly epitomises the Parisienne experience, and of course Guy Savoy came to mind. I thought it would be a great way to start the trip. Fun, lively, great service, food etc. My 1st question is, lunch or dinner? Then the 2nd question would be, the Summer Menu (current) or Fall menu (changes I believe on the 15th)
After put that behind us, I was hoping for some help sorting through the roster of places discussed daily on this site.
I beleive the places listed below fall into common genus of restaurant. Solid, neighborhood, and hopefully not (but probably) over run with the likes of my type. Maybe if we're lucky we'll be able to visit a half dozen of these during our stay.
Simple Yea, or Ney and whether lunch or dinner is a better value or experience.
Frenchies - Poster child for the Lonely Planet or?
Le Bistro de Paris - Tourist Trap?
Ze Kitchen Gallerie
Le Paul Bert
Le Machon d'Henri
Le 21 - Easy walk back to the rented flat at Odeon
Le Baratin
Brasserie Fernand
La Petite Chaisse
Le Relais de l'isle
Casa Olympe
Thanks so much in advance. I look forward to, and value all of your opinions.
Merci.
Southeast BBQ Tour
On further rec's, we made it down to the Columbia, SC area ad made it to Smoke (www.eatsmoke.com) Really a unique spot. Then a bit south to Santee and the Lone Star (bit of a misnomer) BBQ & mercantile. Solid offerings and a very friendly staff.
Today onto some of the Jacksonville area spots. Please help me narrow it down.
Pick 2

- Georgia Pig
- Blues Bbq
- Fred Cotton
Southeast BBQ Tour
Well I've finally made it to the BBQ belt. So last night was my 1st stop. On strong recommendation, I attempted to go to Bill Ellis BBQ. No one even answered the phone, so I moved on. Parkers in Wilson would be the next in line.
First off they close at 8:30pm, so I barely made it., and had to carry out. The fried chicken was really good as were the sides, however I can only imagine that their best work happens earlier in the day. The pork sandwich was so so. Not enjoying the food at the shop surely takes away from the quality and even more so the overall experience.
Today for lunch it's either Allen & Son's, Lex #1 in Hillsborough or maybe Honey Monks, depending on where I land. Lex #1 is not the same as Honey Monks right?
Stay tuned for more from the BBQ Belt.

Hash? OK I'll look for it.
Bennett Place? Uh, what''s there. Enlighten me, and I'm there.
I'll also check out Roadfood.com and the other guy, Steve's sites.
Thanks, we head out this morning.
Southeast BBQ Tour
Sweatmans - for sure.
NC BBQ - It'll be a great resource for filtering reviews.
Ruby's - It's now on the map
Athens & Marietta, GA - this trip may take longer than I thought.
...and the SC mustard based sauce? Pick 1 I have to go to.
I can smell the smoke from here.
If anyone is interested, I started a Google BBQ map (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=107024848302585979520.0004801ea60dea19bcc4c&ll=36.040216,-80.914307&spn=5.035949,9.09668&z=7) of my propsed router to keep organized.

I'm doing a drive from the snowy north to the sunny south in March, with my 84 year old father. Civil war sites, and BBQ is all he has on his radar.
I was wondering if anybody knows who has a comprehensive guide or website, with recommendations/critiques of solid BBQ joints throughout the south.
Thanks in advance for your help.
My Barcelona list needs help
Thanks Quimbimbo - please do take this list with you, and let me know what you find in your travels.
I'm sorry my list confounded you PBSF, but that's what I warned. Perhaps another Chowhounder is up to the task. I don't need to offend but, If this we're my town ( Los Angeles) I could sort that name in about 15 minutes. I'm not so much looking for opinions as much as just making sense if this list. And cost is not a factor in this list.
So... anybody interested? Thanks & let me know when you're coming to Los Angeles.
If a name makes no sense, just delete it. If the restaurant isn't in Barcelona, delete it. If there's a Chefs name in the list, and he has a restaurant that's worth while, maybe you could add it. I just need these name sorted into a few broad groups such as...

My Barcelona list needs help
It's been years since I last was in Barcelona, and now I'll be returning several times in the next 8 months or so.
I have spent countless hours gleaning information from food & travel magazines, blogs, books & websites (especially Chowhound) to the point where I have lost my all bearings as to what is good, bad or otherwise. I’ve read so much literature, that I’m no longer sure whether some of these restaurants are in Barcelona, or that they’re even restaurants at all for that matter.
I know there are no definitive’s when it comes to opinions on restaurants, and I was hoping not to start a whole debate as to what is what, when and where... If possible.
Having said that, would some kind, wise and knowledgeable hound, edit this list into some classifications, such as:
Hi end / Low End
Sit down / Stand up
Tapas
Seafood etc
Specialties
Too touristy (ex: Cal Pep)
Over hyped (ex: Cal Pep)
Feel free to recommendations your faves, as I have undoubtedly omitted many.

I look forward to your input.
Baby Blues BBQ in Venice?
Buyer beware.
I've tried it on at least 3 separate occasions (I live 3 blocks away) with no luck, Quite possibly the worst BBQ I've ever had.
2 votes for yes & 2 votes for no.
LAX - BOS: Fried Clams & Lobster Rolls...
With mid week, beginning of October excursions, I should be able to avoid the masses witch are usually responsible for messing up a clean load of fryer oil.
3 days and counting.
LAX - BOS: Fried Clams & Lobster Rolls...
Well that ought to keep me knee deep in deep fryer fat.
Clam Box / Farnams / Ipswich Clambake Co ? Life is full of choices.
Neptunes - Yes
Raw Bar - Yes
Black Eyed Susan's - Yes
Quarterdeck - Maybe - Think they'll mind if I dress like a pirate?
Thanks so much for your help, Now get a life!

LAX - BOS: Fried Clams & Lobster Rolls...
Well Thanks folks, looks like I'm covered. From the Clam Box to the north, to Black Eyed Susans on the Island, and every deep fryer along the way.
Just what the doctor (didn't) order.
Thanks
LAX - BOS: Fried Clams & Lobster Rolls...
BB, Thanks for the reply. On the No. Shore, sounds like Clam Box or Village might be the way. I was also looking for So. Shore recs. for the same, not so much Nantucket.
Thanks
LAX - BOS: Fried Clams & Lobster Rolls...
Have been reading the posts and culling the list on the afore mentioned local specialties. Sounds like Neptune’s, B&G and Summer Shack (not necessarily in that order...but maybe) are the top contenders while I'm passing through the city.
I'll be visiting a sister in Beverly, and then a friend on Nantucket for a few days. North Shore and Cape recommendations in those stretches? Maybe a wooden picnic table in the harbor somewhere for a warm autumn day?
Food over view... of course.
I'll be checking back often.
Thanks
Client heading to town. Need to shamelessly kiss his A**
Thanks for the input so far, either my list is right on, or the post falls under, "not another list of"...
Thanks either way.
