Austin Burger Smackdown!
Best burger I've had recently is at the Cuban Sandwich Cafe off Berkman. Huge and delicious - home made buns and hand made patty. I have them put the extra pork and ham on the side for a friend. And it costs about $8 all in.
Lovely Dinner at Justine's
I've eaten at Justine's twice - once for a small girls' dinner and once for an early family meal, and I was really happy both times. The first time, we arrived, had drinks and were seated within 45 minutes. We did have to tap the server to get bread and more wine, but she wasn't harried or put off by that. My duck was lovely - not exactly what I've had in Warsaw or Nantes, but very nice. Our frites were crispy and my sister's pork was so good we came back a week later just to get more.
The second visit was even better than the first. We arrived at 6pm with our toddler and sat outside at the big table by the petanque court. Service was attentive but not trying to rush, the pork was great again as was the artichokes and asparigus. It was a wonderfuly friendly place to have a family dinner, and it didn't seem to sceny. But then I guess if you're running with the toddler and blue hair crowd eating dinner at 6pm, you're not going to have many service issues anywhere.

Don't miss the special greek spices on the french fries at Burger House. I've been eating at the ones on Hillcrest and Mockingbird in Dallas for years and am so glad we have one in Austin now.

To my great surprise, my favorite Austin burger is at Romeo's on Barton Springs. They only serve it at lunch, but it's reasonable priced and stands up to the great lunchtime burger at Trio and the fabulous Winkbar burger.
Romeo's also has better than expected veggie and fish burgers too.
Late night dining - help.
Agree about Sam's - they are one of the few BBQ joints in town with mutton. And I'd rather drive through Taco Bell than eat at Magnolia.
