Need a rec for upper east side

I would disagree that Cascabel is "great food" and agree that Salumerie Rosi is a good option.

To the OP why don't you look at:

Maya - Modern Mexican
Uva - Italian
Boqueria - Spanish tapas
Crave Fish Bar - Seafood

Hell's Kitchen Brunch.. HELP!

Ok so let me preface this. I live in NYC and have been through Hell's Kitchen many times for Thai, cheesesteaks (shorty's) and the like. However, I have friends in town who want to grab breakfast/brunch in the area of their hotel (42nd and 9th) prior to their departure this saturday sometime around 10:30 - 11 AM.

I have looked into 44 and X, Marseille, West Bank Cafe. Can anyone provide any other suggestions. For reference there is no budget, we are not planning on drinking and I originally wanted to go to Lafayette.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Upper East Side tamales in the 70s?

Diddo - although I always found it strange that she was selling them at 630 AM, do people eat tamales for breakfast?

Anyway - havn't seen her there for probably 2 weeks.

Wings - Buffalo or Other as long as their good

I will start this off with - I am really craving hot wings. I tend to go to Blondies on the UWS when in the mood, but was curious if anyone could suggest a place that is equally as good.

The only stipulation is that they must be crispy even when sauced. When eating wings it tends to be at the bar while watching some sort of sporting event (again why Blondies is usually the go-to) however I will entertain restaurants if the wings hold up.

I do not have a locational preference, however I live on the east side in the 60's.

Kappo. An exceptional culinary adventure.

How exactly do you go about securing this reservation? Is it part of the infamous online reservation system, or call in only?

The Modern - Bar Room

Totally agree that the egg was the best dish I had there. Duck was second.

Best Turkey Burger in NY?

Turkey Burgers are by far not my forte, however they are commonly ordered by my Fiance. I always at least try a bite and the best of the bunch so far was from 5 napkin burger.

It was by far the juiciest and most flavorful I have tasted.

30th Birthday Dinner - Notable, delicious and fun?

NoMad ressies open at 10AM 28 days prior.

FWIW - I just celebrated a birthday there on Friday with my fiance (we are both 27) and had an awesome meal. I pre-requested the fireplace room, which allows for the peripheral buzz of the atrium without the overbearing noise and close tables. I would highly recommend for a special occasion requesting this room, or perhaps the parlour.

As a side note my fiance ran into some guy from Gossip Girls on the way to the bathroom - and was very excited.

Tommy - My Fiance and I went to veritas about a month ago to celebrate my birthday. As previously mentioned the lobster and bone marrow app is amazing. We also really enjoyed the beef in transition. I got the Duck which was a delicious surprise as it is done in a Peking style but with roasted fruit at the bottom of the plate which created a lovely balance to the dish. Fiance got the pancetta wrapped scallops which were very well prepared but almost inedibly salty (which we should have expected given the pancetta).

All in all it is a good, cozy restaurant which provided a great meal and a fairly memorable dining experience.

Late Night Snacking - UES/Midtown East

It appears that I live in a barren wasteland for late night eats. I live on the east side in the 60's and can not seem to be able to find anything decent (short of hot and crusty and Ray Bari Pizza) open after 2AM.

Can anyone suggest any late night bar menus, snack shacks, sandwich joints..etc in the hood?

I have to say I went there a week or two after it opened. White was tossing the dough and you could tell that he was really into making sure everything was being done to his specs.

We got the cabonara & porchetta pies. The carbonara was amazing albeit a lot salty and the porchetta fell flat.
I would definitely come back, and encourage people to try it for themselves. They do have pitchers of beer (which is not that easy to come by in NY).

Fish Tail

Skip it, there are much better seafood restaurants in the city (Oceana, Marea) for a comparable price.

Also if you are looking for DB restaurants I very much prefer townhouse over fishtail.

Best Wing in Manhattan?

Definitely Blondies on the Upper West Side. Had them after a few beers and they blew my mind. Big, Meaty, and the sauces are great.

Classically one of the best wings i've had in NYC.

Esca, tonight - any thoughts?

We went and did the large tasting menu with wine pairings. Be warned you will get very drunk with 7 wines. That being said you would do yourself a dis-service if you did not supplement whatever pasta dish they have in their tasting menu with the Macceroni a la chitarra which is basically guitar string fresh cut pasta with Uni. It was the single best dish we had in the tasting menu. Also the additional crudo I would find unnecessary as you will be plenty satisfied with the tasting menu.

5 Gallon Water Jug (where to fill?)

Just moved to the area. I have a water cooler in my home that holds 5 Gallon water jugs, that I wish to fill with spring water. I used to be able to fill these at my grocery store outside they had a place to fill jugs for 25 cents a gallon.

Anyone know of a place to fill these. I live in White Plains but work in Somers so anywhere in the lower Westchester area works for me.

21 club

I had one of the best steaks of my life at the Pre-Fix in the upstairs dining room. It was the dry aged Ny Strip.

They also make an amazing burger.

Uni pasta and razor clams in NYC

Definitely go to Esca. Their Uni with crabmeat and fresh cut guitar pasta is to die for. They also have razor clams on the crudo menu.

The Uni and fresh pasta dish is only in the mid $20's and is worth going for.

Has Esca gone downhill?

I think I am qualified to answer as I was just there on Saturday. The meal was fantastic.
We got the 6 course tasting menu, and I substituted the gnocci with the Guitar cut pasta with uni & crabmeat. This sub was the best meal of the tasting, and I highly recommend trying it.

The Crudo's were good, but not excellent. The best one that we tried were the baby deep sea shrimp, but i was slightly disappointed that we did not get the razor clams, as i hear those are the best of the crudo menu.

Food is great, service was excellent. If you are in the mood for seafood, its definitely a great meal.
