Fish Tail

Skip it, there are much better seafood restaurants in the city (Oceana, Marea) for a comparable price.

Also if you are looking for DB restaurants I very much prefer townhouse over fishtail.

Any idea when the menus will be avail? Looked at http://www.nycgo.com/restaurantweek/ and it appears that they are still un-avail.

Thanks,

Best Wing in Manhattan?

Definitely Blondies on the Upper West Side. Had them after a few beers and they blew my mind. Big, Meaty, and the sauces are great.

Classically one of the best wings i've had in NYC.

Cheese Steak besides Carl's in Murray Hill/Gramercy/Kips Bay/Flatiron?

Definitely Shorty's in Hell's Kitchen. Best cheese steak in NYC by far.

Esca, tonight - any thoughts?

We went and did the large tasting menu with wine pairings. Be warned you will get very drunk with 7 wines. That being said you would do yourself a dis-service if you did not supplement whatever pasta dish they have in their tasting menu with the Macceroni a la chitarra which is basically guitar string fresh cut pasta with Uni. It was the single best dish we had in the tasting menu. Also the additional crudo I would find unnecessary as you will be plenty satisfied with the tasting menu.

5 Gallon Water Jug (where to fill?)

Just moved to the area. I have a water cooler in my home that holds 5 Gallon water jugs, that I wish to fill with spring water. I used to be able to fill these at my grocery store outside they had a place to fill jugs for 25 cents a gallon.

Anyone know of a place to fill these. I live in White Plains but work in Somers so anywhere in the lower Westchester area works for me.

Thanks,

J

I had one of the best steaks of my life at the Pre-Fix in the upstairs dining room. It was the dry aged Ny Strip.

They also make an amazing burger.

Uni pasta and razor clams in NYC

Definitely go to Esca. Their Uni with crabmeat and fresh cut guitar pasta is to die for. They also have razor clams on the crudo menu.

The Uni and fresh pasta dish is only in the mid $20's and is worth going for.

Has Esca gone downhill?

I think I am qualified to answer as I was just there on Saturday. The meal was fantastic.
We got the 6 course tasting menu, and I substituted the gnocci with the Guitar cut pasta with uni & crabmeat. This sub was the best meal of the tasting, and I highly recommend trying it.

The Crudo's were good, but not excellent. The best one that we tried were the baby deep sea shrimp, but i was slightly disappointed that we did not get the razor clams, as i hear those are the best of the crudo menu.

Food is great, service was excellent. If you are in the mood for seafood, its definitely a great meal.

Esca Tasting Menu?

Headed to Esca this week and I am going back and forth on the tasting menu vs. a bunch of a la carte options. I will be there with 3 others and am assuming if we all get the tasting menu it could be a lame dinner, whereas if we order a la carte we can all try many different things. Another consideration for us is cost. I know this place is expensive, and I dont mind shelling out the 125$ for the tasting menu if its worth it.

Long story short has anyone done the tasting at Esca, and do you think its worth it or should we go a la carte?

Thanks All

bar and grill in Hell's Kitchen?

Just go to Shorty's..its a few more blocks but worth it.

What are YOUR 9th Avenue favorites?

I am partial to SHORTY'S on 42nd and 9th. The best cheese steaks in the city, and they are all bar, with 15-20 various drafts.

GO THERE.

Craftbar Friday Night

Was planning to stop into Craftbar tonite for a few cocktails and some apps at the bar. I have never been in here, do you think it will be difficult to find 2 spots at the bar at 730 on a Friday night?

Anyone have any other suggestions for good food/apps & drinks in the unionish square area?

Thanks,

Butter

Food is marginal. Nothing to write home about, and certainly nothing to plan a trip around

DIY Culinary Walking tour of Chinatown

Joe's Shanghai is a must. Its on Pell St about 4 blocks off of Canal. They have great soup dumplings, and killer entrees for a reasonable price.

Thanks,
