Beer beyond burgers

I lived in Ottawa, Canada for 8 years and my favourite haunt was the Earl of Sussex, which served "Pint & Pie" -- beer (usually Guinness) and a meat pie, chicken, lamb or steak. Good stuff!

Also, not quite a pairing but check out this 'specialty' beer mix called a Pumpkin Pie -- yum!

Why do so many corkscrews suck?

You got it Midlife -- wine, beer, foil cutter -- and fits wherever I want it to. As long as you ensure the corkscrew pulls straight out all's good. Don't know why you'd need more -- unless you "want that bottle open NOW!!!" :D.

Why do so many corkscrews suck?

I've used a Trudeau for years, to the protest of my wife. Everyone seems to have these big, massive things that take up a lot of space and is some crazy ten-step process. One day I saw a waiter open a bottle of wine and figured, if he does it all day that's gotta work.

So I bought the simple 'jack-knife' Trudeau and haven't looked back.

Worst in Toronto

Lived in T.O. for two years (mid-90s) and Fran's certainly came up. Don't remember being overly impressed but certainly the impression was it once had a great reputation as an amazing greasy spoon. Sorry to hear it seems to continue to not live up to that.
