Tacos La Potranca in King City

We are headed from San Francisco to LA on 101 and we had a quick and inexpensive lunch at this taqueria. 7 tacos and a torta came to about $14 and it was delicious. The Lengua on my taco was probably the best lengua I've ever had. Super tender and juicy. All the others were good too. Cabeza, chicken, carne asada. The al pastor torta came on a soft telera roll. Not huge, but just enough of all the fixings. The only minus was the barely pickled, unspicy, unpeeled carrots on all the plates. We got some pickled jalapenos by request. Service was very friendly and quick. Great stop! We will be heading home next weekend and will probably stop again. My husband is dying to try the tripe torta. Mmmm, tripe.

Not in the East Bay, but I noticed that Little Bee Bakery on Cortland in SF has a sign in their window saying they would trade for Meyer Lemons

Pho Ga : SFBA Dish of the Month November 2014

I used to get the same dish at Irving Cafe Too on Mission in the Excelsior. It's now called Mission Noodle House or something similar. I haven't been there in quite a while because the last couple of times I went there the service was so bad. I could never get any jalapeƱos for the soup or on my Banh mi. The bean sprouts, what there were of them, were brown. The server always brought me a fork and no chopsticks. Just having to ask for every little thing. It just kind of drove me crazy. I liked that soup though. Then Ty Sandwich opened up a couple of doors down and they have much better Banh mi.

Weekend Brunch at The Doctor's Lounge in the Excelsior, San Francisco

I LOVE those Panorama English muffins. I buy them at the Alemany Farmers Market. Delicious. They look kind of hefty, but toast up nicely with a delicate crunch. I'm having one with a fried egg on it for breakfast this morning.

Help this cave dweller, navigate Asian food in SF.

I second that recommendation. #115 is the whole reason to go there. It's awesome! I also love #17. Just don't make the mistake of ordering it "spicy." My husband and I got it one time and could barely eat it. We like what we thought was really spicy stuff (habanero sauces, raw chiles...) and wow! was their spicy hot.

Super Star Restaurant: Filipino-Chinese in the Excelsior (San Francisco)

Oh! I just noticed this place a couple of weeks ago. I was going into Safeway and there were multiple cars double parked (on Mission!). I've lived out here in the far out neighborhoods for about 5 years and never caught wind of this place. Can't wait to get breakfast sometime soon.

Pho Ga : SFBA Dish of the Month November 2014

I get pho ga at two places. Turtle Tower on Larkin in SF and Pho #1 on San Bruno Ave. in SF. Both are Northern style, so they come without the beansprout/herb plate. Turtle Tower is better, of course(better noodles, richer broth), but Pho #1 is walking distance from my house. And Pho #1 has this house-made chili sauce on the tables that is addictive. For some reason I never order pho ga at the Southern style places that I go to.

Where to buy spices in San Francisco?

Either San Francisco Herb Company or Rainbow Grocery. Both carry great, really fresh herbs, spices and tea.

Your most delicious and uncanny ways to eat Spam?

Do other people eat cold Spam sandwiches? It makes me feel a little dirty and a lot nostalgic to eat it that way. White bread, mayo, pickles. Mmmmm

Every Chinese food has the same taste , what spice that gives it that taste , I want to know the particular spice. Because after making my own Chinese food with garlic, ginger , licks , spring onions , etc it doesn't give me th e taste

I can't believe you're the only person that has replied MSG! That was my first thought. It makes everything taste better!

What I don't enjoy about going

Sorry, I should have been more precise in my reply. I was referring to the 2nd restaurant. Not the first one that was running an hour late. That's very poor planning on their part. Or probably overbooking.

What I don't enjoy about going

You must have never worked in a restaurant. I promise you, that owner's first priority is getting people's butts in those seats. I'm always amazed that people think there is some kind of agenda against them getting a table at a restaurant. The goal is to keep those seat filled. That is the goal of every restaurant all the time. Maybe a table got up faster than he was anticipating. Maybe someone no-showed on their reservation. Maybe someone called at the last minute to cancel.

Tommy's Joynt [San Francisco]

Oh, but that burger comes on that hard, oversized sourdough. The meat might taste good, but it's impossible to eat with that bread. I just don't get it.

I didn't even know there was such a thing. I always just use a freezer bag filled with brine. Google says they have them on the Williams-Sonoma website. You might try calling the store.
