Breakfast around Union Square [San Francisco]

I don't recommend Wise Son's hash. Giant pieces of meat and potatoes and bell peppers. Not hash-like at all. Their rye bread is delicious, though. And their chopped liver is awesome.

Sushi Sam's - My First Time, But Not My Last [San Mateo]

Answered my own question. Thanks google. Looks like Italy has banned it too.

Sushi Sam's - My First Time, But Not My Last [San Mateo]

Is it banned because of the digestive issues or some other reason?

Believe me when I say I'd know if I had ingested more than a little bit of escolar.

You probably don't see escolar on many menus because of the problems that some people have digesting it. Google it. It's not pretty. Although, in the amount someone would ingest in an order of nigiri, they probably wouldn't have a problem. I speak from experience.

House made bagels

I've really enjoyed Earl's Bagels which are only available on Sunday mornings at All Good Pizza in the Bayview. I like a really chewy, dark bagel with lots of seeds. I don't know if that's authentic for all you authenticity policemen(and women), but it's what I like. Earl's are all of those things. My jaw was sore after eating them. Score! Not cheap, but worth the price for me. I think they were 6 for $10. Half dozen or dozen only.
As an unrelated side note, I got a couple Baron's Bagels at the Potrero Whole Foods last weekend. They were really good. I didn't know Whole Foods had them. I'll be back for those

Pineapple Whip near Balboa Park BART [San Francisco]

My daughter and I went there last Saturday afternoon. We had to wait too. Seems like they might need a second machine. But we really enjoyed the Dole Whip. Smooth, creamy texture. Not icy at all. We will be back. They also have really inexpensive, simple sandwiches that looked great. Done on a panini press. Could be a nice alternative to Roxie Food Market sandwiches in that area.

Actually, he says that he tried to get it bumped up to 150 as a possible tie-in to the 150th anniversary of the Chronicle. Read the intro to the online list

Where to buy Korean chilli threads in SFO?

Just South of SF in Daly City is Kukje Supermarket. It's a big Korean market. They will have them

NY style slice near SFO/San Mateo

We used to order a whole pie at Arinell all the time. That is until Pizza Shop opened.

LIGHT sides with ribs

I know someone said cold broccoli salad, but I love that "broccoli ceviche" from the NY Times. I make it all the time. My only change is that I use a little less oil. The leftovers are awesome too. It's great with meat!

Din tai Fung comes to Bay Area

Oh no! It's not AUTHENTIC! The horror! Ahhhhhhhhh

"Bang-Bang" - I knew I wasn't alone in this . . .

Yep. But it's usually when I'm totally annoyed at having paid for a fancy meal and still being hungry at the end(Locanda SF I'm looking at you).

Cragel by House of Bagels

How much are these? I encountered the guy selling them in front HoB a while back and I remember being floored by the price, but I can't remember the number. I didn't buy any. And this is from someone who can be very frivolous about spending on baked goods.

closest thing to fresh Langer's rye around here

I love Acme NY rye too, but it seems a bit dense for a sandwich. That Beckman's bread looks awesome too. I hope I can find it somewhere

Private Dining for marriage proposal

No view, but Elite Cafe on Fillmore has pretty private booths

Good vacation rental where I can roast a pig outside?

How many people? And what's the budget? You might try the Druids Hall in Point Reyes Station. A friend of mine rented it for her wedding and some people stayed there over night. It's a really beautiful spot

Best Croissant in SF/Bay Area?

Oh, I love the croissants at Neighbor Bakehouse. Especially the one with seeds and a thin layer of cream cheese. And I've never had anything but really friendly service. We usually go early on Sunday morning. It seems like the people working there are always very patiently describing each and everything on offer, to each and every person. Different strokes, I guess...

Best Sandwich in Berkeley?

I put mustard on BLTs. As a native Californian, I wonder where the "sandwich experts" are born? Is sandwich making taught in schools in other states?

Is tipping now a insult to waitpeople w/new living wage pay hike?

Ah, no. The vocal minority is ruling the press. The majority of wait-people still live on tips. And the majority don't recieve a much of a paycheck because the tax from their tips negates it.

Takeout ideas for bar party (San Francisco)

I saw someone with catering platters from Ali Baba's headed to Dolores Park one time that looked great. Hummus, salads, pitas, tabbouleh, shawarma meats. Can't be all that expensive, and can feed carnivores and veg/vegans too
