Your most delicious and uncanny ways to eat Spam?

Do other people eat cold Spam sandwiches? It makes me feel a little dirty and a lot nostalgic to eat it that way. White bread, mayo, pickles. Mmmmm

Every Chinese food has the same taste , what spice that gives it that taste , I want to know the particular spice. Because after making my own Chinese food with garlic, ginger , licks , spring onions , etc it doesn't give me th e taste

I can't believe you're the only person that has replied MSG! That was my first thought. It makes everything taste better!

What I don't enjoy about going

Sorry, I should have been more precise in my reply. I was referring to the 2nd restaurant. Not the first one that was running an hour late. That's very poor planning on their part. Or probably overbooking.

What I don't enjoy about going

You must have never worked in a restaurant. I promise you, that owner's first priority is getting people's butts in those seats. I'm always amazed that people think there is some kind of agenda against them getting a table at a restaurant. The goal is to keep those seat filled. That is the goal of every restaurant all the time. Maybe a table got up faster than he was anticipating. Maybe someone no-showed on their reservation. Maybe someone called at the last minute to cancel.

Tommy's Joynt [San Francisco]

Oh, but that burger comes on that hard, oversized sourdough. The meat might taste good, but it's impossible to eat with that bread. I just don't get it.

Who are the best food/restaurant bloggers in SF, and where do they eat?

The Bunrabs have moved back to the Bay Area. Many new local reviews on their blog.

Pumpkin It's It - Anyone seen it in the SF Bay Area?

I saw them at Casa Lucas on 24th in SF last weekend. They were in the freezer in the front by the register.

Dim sum close to 5th and Mission [San Francisco]

Canton Dim Sum on Folsom is pretty good, although it doesn't get much press. Less pricey than Yank Sing and way more low-key.

local source for pickling crock weights?

I didn't even know there was such a thing. I always just use a freezer bag filled with brine. Google says they have them on the Williams-Sonoma website. You might try calling the store.

Is that one of the pre-made ones that they have on the back counter? I've always wondered how those are.

Hello, I am looking for some recommendations for some store bought marinades, sauces, and pre mixed seasonings for chicken.

I love a jarred tandoori marinade that is mixed with yogurt. it's tasty and it tenderizes. Sukhi's or Patak's

And describing the potatoes as "mealy" with bbq sauce. We discuss taking an order of those smoked potatoes home with us every time we eat there. They're amazing.

Weekend Trip Report Day 3 and 4 (Maven/Frances/Bar Tartine/The Cavalier)

Yeah, I think lots of people just don't get Bar Tartine. There are always challenging flavors and textures. My husband and I love it. I really think Nick Balla is a crazy genius. It obviously is not the place for you. That makes it easier for me to get in.

Sliced Meat for Hot Pot in East Bay or SF?

Kukje Market is in Daly City and it's a Korean Supermarket. They have all that stuff. Also, Nijiya in Japantown has high quality sliced meat.

There's also the appropriately named Smokey Blue from Rogue Creamery in Oregon which is delicious, too.

Where to get (tasty) roasted suckling pig?

Do you have any other recommendations at Imperial Garden? I live in the Portola and have been there once. I was not impressed. We usually get up early(we have small children) and get to Koi Palace right when they open so we don't have to wait. And it's only 10 minutes from home! But I'd love to just walk to dim sum sometime.

Where can I buy live crawfish in the city? [San Francisco]

Manila Market on Outer Mission occasionally has them

Chowdown Report: SF Excelsior Food Crawl Part I (Aug 2014)

I agree on the lack of sauce. It's not a place I'd drive across the city for, but definitely best in the neighborhood.

Chowdown Report: SF Excelsior Food Crawl Part I (Aug 2014)

Ty sandwich is my new go-to for Banh mi on this side of the city. We live in the Portola and used to occasionally get them at what is now called Mission Noodle. It was originally an outpost of Irving Cafe. It was never as good and the service was awful. But it was closer than driving to the Tenderloin or the Sunset. Surly service, haphazard sandwich, never ever could get jalapeƱos on it no matter how I asked, sometimes obviously old bread. We tried Ty a few weeks ago and were really happy. Super friendly, delicious sandwiches, great crispy bread and I can even get jalapeƱos. We've been back a couple of times. Glad to see you all included them!

Steak tartare

I love to sit at the bar at Harris' and order a martini and steak tartare. Classic steak house vibe. Great martinis.

where can I find the best local strawberries?

You're probably thinking of Tomatero Farm. They had a variety called Rosa or Rosas on Saturday that were amazing. Pretty much everything they grow is delicious.

Muffuletta Olive Salad.

I bought some Central Grocery brand from Calabria Bros. on 17th in SF a while ago. They have since moved to Mission Street in the Excelsior. I recall it being really expensive, but less than flying to New Orleans for my fix.

Just moved to San Mateo and loving the ramen joints there. I need suggestions on where to go next!

Himawari. I always get the shio and my husband gets the tantan men. Always add an egg. Their eggs are delicious. We went to Santa recently and they should be ashamed of their nasty overcooked eggs.

Dishes w/ tongue in the Bay Area

You can buy corned tongue from Robert's Corned Meats in SOMA and cook your own if you're up for it. I've done it a couple of times and it was delicious.

Sources for andouille?

I live in San Francisco and I have ordered from Bailey's in LaPlace a few times. Delicious stuff. I ordered my New Orleans-born husband a box of andouille and chicken andouille for our anniversary last year. (We both benefit from that gift!) My sister-in-law introduced us to the chicken andouille a few years ago. We were skeptical, but it's awesome. We try to go to LaPlace and stock up on Tasso and regular andouille when we go home for a visit, but had never bought the chicken. If you're ordering, have them throw in a couple of extra sticks of the chicken. Just grill and eat. The regular is best used in dishes, in my unprofessional opinion.

I bought them at Far West Funghi in the Ferry Plaza quite a while ago. Don't know if they still carry them or not.

Muffaletta Bread

We always use an Acme Green Onion Slab. Sometimes an Herb Slab if we can't get to the Ferry Plaza. It's not the same, but it holds up to the olive relish.
