Tao Yuen Pastry on Franklin is good for glutenous dim sum, Sun Hing has good meats, and Sun Sing pastry has good pork buns. Sum Yee pastry has good to go dim sum as well and Cam Huong has decent sandwiches.

If you look at it from that perspective, then you will be dissapointed, good wine is much more expensive to produce due to high real estate prices, and the difficulty of growing good grapes. Making spirits is like beer, it comes from a few base grains and is a process that is more controlled.
If you want good wine for cheaper, you will have to explore other Countries.

There arn't any good wineries in RRV or Sonoma with wine at those prices.. Maybe Hook and Ladder,but you are barking up the wrong tree.. The range for good stuff in the region ranges from 20 to 100 bucks.. however that being said most wineries do have a 20 dollar cheap rose or such.. but only go up from there.. I would revise your travel plans or expectations of what prices are in Sonoma and RRV.

We live right by the Pacific Ocean here, yet most of the fish at Tokyo is not local. I am not clear on why this is here in the Bay Area, but the fish stores suck.

I like the Chandon Rose.. one has to know what they are getting into when they buy an older bottle of Rose.. even though it is much fresher under screwcap than it would have been.. but I have been buying it since they had a bunc in the spring and I love it for its slightly aged nuttiness.. I also like the Riesling.. hey its 19 years old in a half bottle..so what were you expecting?

Oh BTW I just bought 22 bottles of wine and a bunch of food for 118 dollars.. so you can see that is a good deal including some really good stuff..like a half bottle of Renaissance 1992 Riesling and the afore mentioned wines..

There are a lot of great wines there right now at San Pablo and Oakland.. Really. I will give up some. .. Like at San Pablo a gorgeous Bordeaux Blanc Pesac Legonan for 9.99 and only 8 buck with sale.,, more.. the Domaine Chandon Rose.. , the Duboeuf Morgon and some others..
For Oakland, well they just got in a bunch of basic Bordeaux and I had a red that was 5.99 (now 20% less) and it was lightish but very very good and a nice food wine.. There are tons of different things there right now.. and I buy wine there all the time.. they do not mark down further..
There are some other very nice wines at Oakland as well but I want to go back and buy a bunch, so you will have to guess which ones.
Suggestions for Thai in Bay Area while Ruen Pair is closed?
My last 3 meals at Chai Thai have not been as good.. but willing to still give them another chance..
Where to buy Boxed Wine in SF or online?
There are some good ones.. look up the NY Times boxed wine article. I frankly find most of the Ones at the larger places like the ones mentioned below not so good.. however have had the Bota Zinfandel and liked it. There are some more artisinal ones that are much better in my opinion.

Chardonnay is a very very mutable grape.. so it would be necessary to know exactly what it is you like. Do you like Acid driven- Minerally styles, buttery or oaky styles..? Fruity and stone fruit?

All I can say is their pain au chocolate is way way over priced and not even as good as some pretty mediocre places in SF.. sorry .. they hype machine in on overdrive with this place.

Why does the race of who eats a restaurant matter. I can tell you that Chinese folks can have bad taste and eat at crappy restaurants ..Look at them at the horrible dim sum at Old Seafood in Oakland. so there are people with bad taste in every ethinic group.
I really don't understand why people are allowed to get off the hook with statements about so called authenticity meaning that people of a certain group eat at a place.
