Mini Trip Report: Maui mid-November

Star noodle was not that expensive, if I recall correctly, the vietnamese crepe was around $12 which as you know is not bad for the islands.

Mini Trip Report: Maui mid-November

If you are going to Maui, do not miss Eskimo Candy fishmarket/restraunt (closed weekends) and Star Noodle. THey are both too good to miss, and very resonably priced for Maui. I particuarly liked the Vietnamese crepe at Star Noodle, and the deep fried fresh fish and poke (5 kinds to choose from) at EK.

Christmas buffet in Kihei/Wailea

We just returned from Maui, and had Thanksgiving buffet at the Fairmont, $80 plus tax/service, I would say it was good/very good but not really a memorable meal. Next time we will just go somewhere like Star Noodle and have our Holiday meal when we return home.

Need recent suggestions for Kihei/Wailea area

Thanks for your suggestion, unfortunately I did not get them before we left. We did manage some great eating however, esp at Star Noodle (yes, I did havbe the Vietnamese Crepe, was fantastic), Eskimo Candy, Nick's at Fairmont, and Local Boys Shave Ice in Kehei. Breakfast at Five Palms was good with great seating right on the water. We also liked Cuatro and 808 Bistro, which had a teriffic 3 course $25 special if you ordered by 6 pm (too early for us). It was also BYOB. Joe's bar and Grill was good but not outstanding. Very nice ambiamce however and good service. We also lunched at Wokstar, good, fast, and cheap. Only really bad meal was lunch in Hana, expensive and poor quality. Our favorite dirve was around the North-West side of the Island, strictly against rental car policy due to the very narrow road and multiple esses, but so much fun!

Need recent suggestions for Kihei/Wailea area

We are leaving this sat for Wailea, and am very much interested in some good, local recommendations, many I have seen are several years old now, and I would like some current favs, if possible. We have reservations at Nicks Fsh house and Plantation house, but they can be changed. WIll be there with SO and 16 YO daughter, we all love sushi, asian, and any type of fresh fish. We can drive for 30-45 minutes if needed. Prefer not too stuffy or pretentious. Many thanks.

Heading to Sedona in a few weeks....

NOt much new in Sedona from previous posts, Savannah's has closed, and the Silver Saddle is now a Thai joint (possibly Thai Palace), haven't tried it yet but the owners have a very good Thai rest in Cottonwood, so it should be good. It is located behind the Cowboy Club, uptown. A good breakfast place is 101 omelettes (Coffee Pot), and the restaurant at the top of airport mesa. It is a fun place to watch the airplanes take off and land, as it is just off the runway. I like the corned beef hash. For fine dining, the best are Garlands Lodge (reservations way in advance if you can score one), Yavapai room at enchantment, or at the bar or outside (less $ , still great food), Elote Cafe (currently closed for vacation for another 10 days, Lamb adobo a must dish here), Dahl & Diluca, Cucina Rustica, and Pizza Picazzo. I personally do not like L'auberge, but some do. Rene's on the patio is a good place for lunch, old fashioned menu, but nice setting at Tlaquepaque. I have only tried Fork in the Road once and was not impressed, but it has gotten good reviews from others. The Indian place in Basha's plaza is quite tasty as well, they have a good lunch buffet if you like those.

Sedona (again) most romantic, best food, view not necessary, or maybe Prescott?

Elote or Garland's Lodge are your best bets, no great food in W Sedona, not sure where the above poster got the idea that Elote was closed, it is very much open (except Mondays). The lndia Palace is quite good also, close to Domino's Pizza on W hwy 89a.

Sedona in September

Unfortunately, the restraunt scene in Sedona changes at a glacial pace, so if you read the prior posts on Sedona, you will have a good idea of what is available. The best brunch is at Enchantment resort, but after a huge brunch there I coundnt imagine eating again all day. Dinner or lunch on the patio, or at the bar is always a less espensive option, with killer views. L'Auberge is not my fav, but does have great views when eating down by the creek outside. Garland's Lodge is at the top of my list, but they only take a few outsiders each night so you should call asap and try to score a reservation. Fixed menu, 4 wonderful courses, lovely setting for around $40 plus wine/tip, which is a deal in these parts. My other top recommendation is Elote, a must try is the lamb adobo. The atmosphere is lacking, but the food more than makes up for it. The other absolutely fab recommendation is Cucina Rustica, which is in the Village of Oak Creek, a 10 minute drive toward the freeway The ambiance is great, try to get a table on the patio if possible. I cannot really recommend a sports bar for watching the game, possible Steak N Sticks? For a funky happy hour, try Oak Creek Brewing Co, behind Bashas. Locals joint , often with music on Fri nite. This is not the one in Tlaquepaque, which is more touristy.

2 nights in PHX, first time ever in the SW

As a recent visitor, I really enjoyed Los Sombreros on Scottsdale road. Not a fancy-schmancy place, but lots of atmosphere and great mole. Also had huitlacoche (corn fungus) crepes, which I have not seen on the menu before.

Romantic Dining in Sedona

The most romantic spot is probably Enchantment Resort, or Cucina Rustica in the Village of Oak Creek. Either will be fantastic, and loads of atmosphere. For food alone and no atmosphere, I would try Elote Cafe on Hwy 179 near the Hillside shops. For a fun winery experience, go to the Art of Wine shop in uptown, near the Hyatt. They specialize in Az wines, and you can taste a bunch there without having to drive all over.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Keep them coming. My list was heavy on Mexican, as we have such poor mexican/southwest here in Sedona, Cafe Elote notwithstanding.

Need suggestons for Mesa?Tempe?Chandler area

I will be staying in Tempe for a week and need some help in paring down a long list of restaurants that I have gleaned from this and other sites. I am looking for "interesting" foods, decor and ambiance not as important as great food. So far, my list is (in no particulart order) Cyclo, C-Fu, Asia Cafe, Los dos Molinos, Yasu Sushi, House of Tricks, Lychee Inn, Chino Bandido, Rancho Tia Rosa, Boca 7, Los Sombreros, Blue Adobe Grill, Restaurant Mexico, and Stacey's Smokehouse. Any help in whittling down this list, and specific suggestons of your favorite dish at some of these places would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, in advance, Matt
