Georg Jensen stainless flatware Pyramid

I think they're the lightest "nice" flatware I've ever encountered. It took some getting used to.

I was just forced to listen one along with the Beatles' "I Want You/She's So Heavy." TTYTT, at first I thought it was some added little Beatles artifact I'd never noticed before (I have headphones on now).

Registering for dinnerware that will last

My first set of dishes was similar to your clear Arcoroc, GG. I had the Italian version, made by Bormioli. I'd forgotten all about them. My little sister inherited them.

It's nice looking. Nothing wrong with being picky. I bought some Alessi knifeforkspoon a couple of years ago. They have very light, thin handles.

corn bread

And I love it, Rasputina. I use the recipe for Golden Yellow Corn Bread on the bag of Indian Head Yellow Corn Meal. I usually use butter instead of oil.

I did not know the difference between Southern and Northern cornbread until 1984. I'm a Northerner, and never ate cornbread until I started making it in '84. A friend from Texas complained about the sugar. Another friend, one from SW Virginia, said he preferred it with sugar, on the other hand, so there went the Northern/Southern thing AFAIWC. If you don't like sugar, leave it out.

I've often added different combinations of cheddar cheese, jalapenos from a can, diced red peppers, raisins, and have substituted yogurt for milk.

1 cup Indian Head Yellow Corn Meal
1 cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons baking powder
¼ cup oil
1 cup milk
1 egg, beaten

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Combine corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Mix oil, egg, and milk together and add to dry ingredients, mixing until batter is uniform. Bake in a greased 9”x9”x2” pan for 20-25 minutes.

Why Aren't Dogs Allowed in U.S. Restaurants?

It would be nice if there were restaurants where dogs could go, and restaurants where dogs could not go. Humans could choose accordingly.

New All-Clad Handles... About Time.

I had a dream last night I was cooking with this Thomas Keller cookware, and I couldn't get the lids off except by using my thumbnail, which led to my burning my thumb. Somehow, there were no potholders in the dream.

How is "devil's food" different from any other type of chocolate layer cake?

<<I scramble eggs regularly in a skillet where they reach the top of the rivets, and they undoubtedly make the job more difficult.>>

Which job, cooking or cleaning?

Help me build a great cookware set!

When the schmutz on the rivets becomes Just Unbearable, I get out my special rivet toothbrush (HARD!) and either 7th Gen or BKF and scrub that schmutz away. What, do you think you're going to get food poisoning if a teeny-tiny amount of scrambled egg touches a rivet?

Best way to box up cookbooks for long-term (2-3 years) storage?

I keep papers in two of the currently available plastic boxes you can get at Staples or Office Depot -- are those "totes"? -- and even after five years, I can still smell the chemical compound they are made from. I don't find my documents smelly, though.

I don't know how books would do in such an environment -- not a choice I have to make today -- but I am purposely not using them to store CDs because I don't want to expose the CDs, their booklets, or their jewel cases to whatever makes the plastic boxes stink. Instead I keep my stored CDs in cardboard boxes (some are still on shelves).

Yammers, I did not know about Proper Brick Oven until I read this. It has gone straight to the top of my "must try" list. I like Il Pizzaiolo, but I don't love it.

Do you like or dislike the new format ?

It might be helpful for the people who are going to fix this to know what kind of device each of us is using when we experience things we don't like. My complaints are two: why do I see all posts every time I click this thread, instead of just unread ones? and suddenly, I have to click the "back" button two or three times to get it to work. I chose #3, "don't care."

I use a desktop computer only when I read CH.

'Substitute' dinner needed for next week Wednesday

I haven't been to Phila. since 2007, but I most enjoyed going to Porcini, on the 2000 block of Sansom Street. I've read that there's another Italian restaurant very nearby, which may be even better, but I don't remember the name.

Storing Chopped Tomatoes Overnight

I would toss them with a little of the olive oil and basil you're going to use tomorrow. You could put them in a strainer over a bowl if you're so inclined. And then refrigerate them.

Picky People Coming for Dinner, What to Make?

I don't know that I've ever made it for four, c, but you might halve the sauce recipes and use 3/4 of a pound of pasta. She says each sauce recipe makes enough for six people.

I'd be more inclined to make a full recipe of each sauce, use the whole pound of pasta and lots of Parmigiano, and feel confident that anything left over won't last long.

Is this pot stainless steel? How can you tell? [PICS]

It certainly looks like stainless. I have a similar pot, a real El Cheapo, not from Wegmans, and it is stainless.

Picky People Coming for Dinner, What to Make?

I love the eye-yoyo idea (that's how I thought it was spelled when I was a kid). I always use angel hair and lots of Parmigiano-Reggiano, and I love ChiliDude's vegetable suggestions (well, except the broccoli, but that's just me). I add basil this time of year, also.

I don't think anyone has ever turned this down when I've made it, and it is simplicity itself.
