Cozy Coffee House - West Hartford Area

I've lived in WHtfd for 15 years and haven't found a comfy neighborhood type coffee house yet, Le Petite Bakery has good coffee but uncomfortable seating and the atmosphere is lacking, the new Sofias has ok coffee but lacking in atmosphere also. I agree, I wish someone would open a place with good music, comfy seating, communal tables, a warm friendly atmosphere, and of course great coffee and simple food...the kind of place I've found in countless other places... I believe this area would support it. Starbucks & Cosi have their place but I'd love something local too.

Driving from New York to Salem (and back)

Max's Oyster Bar in West Hartford Center is right off 84 and about halfway between NY and Salem, never had a bad meal there, they have outdoor dining also

restaurant that seats 60, under $20 p/p in west hartford area

There are dozens of restaurants within walking distance of the movie theater in WH, but I can't think of one that can accommodate such a large group. I would suggest breaking into groups of 5 and going to different restaurants... There are plenty of options for under $20 considering no one will be drinking. There's Moe's (SouthWest cafeteria style), Counter Burger, Cheesecake Factory, Elbow Room(American comfort food), Max Burger, Lemon Grass(Thai), Chipotle Grill will be open by then...I think these are the most large group teen friendly..and all within a minute or 3 from Bow Tie Cinema

Suggestions for birthday dinner 3/17 (south central CT)

I agree with Ibiza Tapas... great food... it's all small plates so you can try lots of different things..small bar.. I don't think it's a place people would go to drink on St Pats day

Recommendation near Hartford Marriott?

Jim... I was referring to the streets around the Marriott...the few blocks between there and Main St are not heavily populated at night.... an easy walk to Max's though..

Recommendation near Hartford Marriott?

Max Downtown will have the menu your family likes and the wine list that you want....it is walking distance to the Marriott....but the streets are deserted at night... so I would drive and park in the free garage behind Max's...

Birthday Dinner within 45 minutes of Hartford CT

I agree with both Metro Bis and Good News Cafe.... also, Pond House Cafe in Elizabeth Park in West Hartford is a nice setting with easy access... don't know if they're still BYOB or not... or Firebox on Broad St in Hartford...great food and easy access with their own free parking lot

Except that Vernon is not on their route... it's past the 91 interchange...

Dinner Recs needed along 84 and 91 between CT and Vermont

From 84East you can take exit 43 and follow the signs to West Hartford Center... it's maybe a mile from the exit... if you're traveling on a weekend night it's not going to be a quick in & out anywhere...but Max Burger on the edge of the center may have easier parking...they don't accept reservations... they have awesome tuna burgers and sweet potato fries among other things...search the board for West Hartford and you'll find many posts for other restaurants as well...

Good food, good wine, and kids - Fairfield County, CT

I agree....Rizzuto's is West Hartford is TERRIBLE!... service is bad - young, hip looking wait staff that is completely unprofessional and condescending...food is bad to mediocre ... I was served a salad that was dressed in Olive Oil... that's it... I had to ask for Balsamic vinegar instead of them removing the salad and redressing it... my pizza sounded good but was quite bland... it's too bad because it's a pleasant room in a good location... the chain Bertucci's is far superior..

Busines Lunch around St Francis off of Asylum in Hartford??

I love Feng and Max's also... but I think for out of towners coming from Asylum Hill...looking for lunch... it's easier to get to and park at Firebox.....

Busines Lunch around St Francis off of Asylum in Hartford??

I would go to Firebox on Broad St... Great food...good atmosphere for a business lunch...It's about a five minute or less drive from St Francis...
www.fireboxrestaurant.com

Go East on Asylum (towards downtown)... right on Broad St at The Hartford insurance Bldg...pass the Htfd Courant Bldg... next block on right... they have free parking lot...

I started using Agave in coffee a couple of years ago and now use it in everything, tea, cereal, plain yogurt.. I now prefer the taste over sugar or honey

Foodie Family Moving to New England

As far as I know it's a pretty scaled back version of the original plans... I don't know if it's going to be like Blue Back...but anything is an improvement on the empty lots that are there now...

I agree, you're not going to walk from the Bushnell across the park at night to get a meal, but you can certainly walk from dinner to Hartford Stage and then after walk to find dessert... I get your point that Hartford is not a strolling city though

Foodie Family Moving to New England

I agree with you on central CT as a great option for the OP...and West Hartford in particular (where I live)...lots of great restaurants from hole in the wall to noisy scenes and everything in between, farmers markets, ethnic grocers, Chef/Farm dinners etc...and easy access to any outdoor activity you want... I disagree about your comment on Hartford having no culture however...it has the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Real Art Ways, Hartford Stage, TheaterWorks, the new Science Museum of CT, Bushnell Theater, XL Center for sports, RiverFront Recapture, Hartford Symphony etc... and many great restaurants... Like any city there is crime but no more so than any other..
