NY Times Kitchen Fights Obesity? I agree. Didn't they do a study that kids who eat at home with their families are better students, don't do drugs, and weigh less? |

But is it a pretty blue? |

Whenever I make a tiramisu, if there's any leftover I look forward to having some for breakfast. With coffee. Yeah, I know coffee's IN IT but I also drink coffee WITH IT. You got a problem with that? |

For the non-asian: Have you ever tried/heard of Chinese Herbal Soup? I watched a show where the new mom was given a special soup by her Chinese mom to help shrink her uterus and help with milk flow. The new mom did not enjoy it but ate it. |

Do you give a restaurant a bad review? I recently went to a brick and mortar restaurant that started out as a food cart (we have a lot of food carts in Portland). The food was great but the way the place was run was terrible. I'm on Yelp but I never post, I just go for reviews. In this case I plan to write a very nice letter/email to the restaurant owner praising the food but also mentioning the shamble of the service. One, I don't want to publicly humiliate. Two, I think the owner will respond to a letter better, especially if it contains some good news too. |

And oh, some locations offer wine tasting! |

Pesto at Restaurants-- Just about all add Cream!!! Sounds like something Olive Garden would do. ;o) |

Suggestions for over-cured gravlax Can you grind it, mix with egg and bread and make salmon patties? |

Do you de-salt your anchovies before use? It depends how you're using them: "neat" or in with other ingredients. If they're in with other ingredients, perhaps you can reduce the other salt in the recipe? If you do want to soak them to de-salt them, try milk. I saw a chef demonstrate brandade. He soaked his salt cod in milk. It was scrumptious. |

Everyone should. Self reliance. You snooze, you lose. |

things "kids today" are clueless about?? Holy Guacamole! $25K to start a garden? Seems a bit high to me. |

Fun list features Courier's cannele Finally made it to Courier's. The guys in there were very nice. They showed me their cannele pan and described the technique to make them. The canneles were good. Outer crust was very crispy. Don't remember what the interior was like but they were not creamy like St Jack. I can't compare them to the rest of the list because it's been so long since I had the others [sad face]. Now only Ken's remain to be tasted. |

Asparagus is nice because it's in season. Use what's fresh and in season, right? |

Sounds good but that photo is atrocious. Not the lighting, but the wedges(?) and them sitting on the edge of a bowl(?). Question marks because it's confusing. What's wrong with putting a slice on a plate and calling it good? |

Want to take veggies friends out to dinner Another favorite of mine (got to meet the owner last time and chat with him in Italian) is Ethiopian food at E'Njoni Cafe, 910 N Killingsworth St Portland, OR 97217. (503) 286-1401 |

Want to take veggies friends out to dinner Come to St. Johns (very close to the 'Couv, much to our chagrin) and eat at Proper Eats. 8638 N Lombard Ave, Portland, Oregon 503-445-2007 The food is delicious, even to non-vegetarians. |

Canelés - simple but not easy - Part V I would not use Magic Eraser on anything that touches food. |

I had my first avocado in a deconstructed guacamole: a tomato salad with avocado in it. It was delicious. When I first started cooking, a cookbook I owned featured a crab cocktail that sat atop fanned avocado slices. That was yummy too. |

Shopping lists: Running lists? Paper & ink? Laminated? Glad to know little has changed since January. :-P |

Do people ask you random questions… Prom mom is missing the point. It's FUN to go to a casual place all dressed up. And it gives the other customers a kick. I walked into a fast food joint with a friend and spotted a Quinceañera party there. The birthday girl wore a very 'particular' dress: it had jungle print fabric within the flounces of the skirt. I wish I had gotten a pic. |

Do people ask you random questions… My checker saw me buying 2 tins of anchovies and asked how I use them. I told her about umami. I described smashing 2 fillets into the dressing for my tortellini salad recently. They were on sale for $1.25 (!). I told her to buy a tin and try them. If she didn't like them, she would only be out $1.25. She agreed it was a good idea. |

Happy Posters vs. 'Debbie Downer' Posters..which are you? I don't mind pro and anti posts. That's just life, right? But I detest thread hacking. |

Great article. Thanks for posting. "vegetable stinky foods are very clean and clear in the mouth (qing kou), and they disperse quickly, while milky foods are greasy in the mouth (ni kou), they coat your tongue and palate, and they have a long, lingering aftertaste." --They pretty much nailed it. Why cheese is loved and hated. :o) |

I'm not a big fan of ordering food items 'on the side' but I think in this case, it would have been justified. What a way to ruin a steak! |

Questions using soda stream? ( Want to carbonate my own flavors) When I came across this syrup recipe recently, I thought it would make an interesting soda: http://www.littlehouseliving.com/make... |
