Thanks! Locally-sourced was probably too ambitious! Really looking for a somewhat fine dining or decent place with good food and abc permits. Did I see that Matthews 102 North closed?

Does anyone have any restaurant recommendations in this area? Would prefer independent, local-sourced-type place if possible. Will settle for simply decent! Looking for dinner primarily. Thanks!
Ella's, Oyamel, Central
Great idea. I'll ask to concierge to check Matchbox/Oyamel when we get in. Maybe they'll let us put our name on the list!
Ella's, Oyamel, Central
Thanks for all the suggestions. Matchbox would probably be our first choice, looking for something casual and inexpensive but fun. After a 4-5 hour drive, would like something a bit nicer than counter-service. And somewhere for a drink. ;-)
Haven't thought about Zaytinya...ate there two years ago and received poor service—waitress wasn't knowledgeable about the wine list, when asked about certain dishes, she said she didn't eat that, etc. It probably tainted our experience towards the food and the place. Maybe we'll take another look.
Ella's, Oyamel, Central
We're hoping to stay in PQ, so we can just walk. We're not tied to Mexican, just looking for a balance between casual and good food. We liked Jaleo a lot but wanted to try something different.
Ella's, Oyamel, Central
Where would you recommend for a relatively quick low key dinner? We'll get to the hotel at around 8:15 earliest. Tried to do Matchbox last time but wait was about 2 hours.
Ella's, Oyamel, Central
We're headed up to DC on Friday for a long weekend with our well-behaved 8-year-old son. Staying at Embassy Suites in Penn Quarter. Since this is last minute, I could only get a reservation for Central on Sunday (we've eaten there every trip and love it). We'll have to do walk-in on Saturday night and are thinking about Oyamel. Will there be a crazy wait? I'm OK with 45 minutes to an hour, assuming we can get a cocktail or glass of wine. We're also thinking about Ella's for dinner on Friday since we'll be late getting in. Will we be OK without reservations at both of these places?
Bayona or Clancy's for dinner with the parents?
Sorry to hijack this thread, but we're coming in to town tomorrow and have reservations at Clancy's. Is there a preference for upstairs or down? What's the difference? (Ate upstairs at Galatoire's once and didn't really love it.)

Love to do appetizer tour first night in a city and need recommendations!
We attempted this one night last fall with moderate, and ultimately expensive, success. We were looking to hit some of the FQ's more upscale places. We started out at Mr. B's (just drinks), then the Hermes Bar at Antoines (oysters rock & souffleed potatoes), then we walked the wrong way on Decatur looking for Iris, which we finally found and had drinks/apps, then ended back at Mr. B's where I was able to get the late night small order of BBQ'd shrimp (which I was dying to try). We had planned to hit Arnaud's bar for a nightcap but ended up heading back to the Roosevelt's Sazarac Bar.
All these spots were great but I'd try to eat something substantial a bit earlier in the evening. We were still hungry at the end of the night!
That said, here's my list of places if I did it again:
Mr. B's
Arnaud's French 75
Hermes Bar @ Antoine's
The Pelican Club
Sazerac Bar (just because it's an amazing bar)

Thanks so much for your quick reponse. I am definitely adding Galatoire's on Sunday and Emeril's for lunch.
We don't arrive until after noon on Thursday so was thinking a light lunch at Napoleon House and a Pimm's cup, just to get in the zone. ;-)
We absolutely loved Brigtsens last time so I'll have to talk my husband out of it.
August is an interesting suggestion...Thanks!

I'm baaaaack! You all helped me on my last trip down so I'm posting again.
In mid November, I’ll be in NOLA for three days of fun with hubby prior to three days of a convention with clients. I’ll be at the Roosevelt for the first three days, then moving to the Sheraton.
This is about my sixth or seventh trip to NOLA, so I’ve got my “must-return” places decided below. Can you help fill in the gaps? Here are places I’ve never been to and I’m considering: Luke, Cochon, Bon Ton Café, Dick and Jenny’s, Clancy’s. (Was thinking about spending Saturday shopping along Magazine.) Could also think about Bayona or Mr. B's (been to both before).
Thursday Lunch Napoleon House
Thursday Dinner Irene’s
Friday Lunch Commander’s

Saturday Lunch
Saturday Dinner Brightsens

Anywhere good near the Convention Center for lunch?
Quarter recommendations & beyond/Nov 18-23
I second Domenica. We just returned from a 3 night stay at the Roosevelt and had a fantastic lunch there. And the Sazerac Bar is just tops.
Thank you for the tips...here's where to find us for the next 3 1/2 days.
Arrive tomorrow morning around 11:00. Check in to the Roosevelt.
Lunch at Napoleon House for a Pimm's cup, a warm muffaletta and a serious attitude adjustment.
Wednesday Dinner at Jacques-Imos and hanging at the Maple Leaf after.
Thursday lunch at Commander’s to celebrate anniversary. (reservations made for Garden Room hopefully)
Thursday Dinner is a bar hop (and small plates) through some fancy restaurant bars in the quarter (Hermes, Mr. B’s, Dickie Brennan's, Iris, Arnaud’s French 75…and anywhere else that looks good).
Friday lunch is either Acme, Johnny Po-boys, or Central…whatever the mood strikes.
Friday Dinner is at Brigsten's
Saturday lunch at Bayona and then to the airport. Unless we're too miserable from the previous three days of eating, in which case we'll have Tums and diet coke.
In between all this, we plan to grab some beignets at Cafe du Monde and a dozen charbroiled oysters at Acme at some point. Plus a few cocktails at the Sazerac.
Did I do good?

Oysters Rockefeller Postcards @ Antoines
Does anyone know if they still give you a numbered postcard with your order? We were there about 10 years ago and received order #3,007,772. Nice little keepsake that I still have framed in my kitchen.

I'm really dying to try the BBQ shrimp at Mr. B's, even after reading the recipe (OMG, 3 sticks of butter!). My husband is allergic to shrimp so sharing's not an option. Unless we want to make a stop in the emergency room for a nightcap. ;-)

Boy I can tell we're going to have to pace ourselves! I figure we can hit 4-6 places before burning out or filling up...but with only 3 1/2 days, too many restaurants, too little time! And in an effort to combine great NOLA classics, both dishes and establishments, there's another question: Where would be the ultimate place to end up for dessert? Although we're not big dessert eaters, there needs to be something awesome we can split.

Wow, thanks so much. Iris looks wonderful (veal cheek ravioli), and the bar gets rave reviews. Will check out these others, too, especially Green Goddess. Lots of buzz there.

On our three-night trip next month, we’ve planned dinners at Jacques-Imos and Brigtsens, and lunches at Napoleon House, Commander’s Palace, Acme and possibly Bayona.
But for one night, we’d like to hop (hopefully not stumble) around some of the Quarter’s finest restaurant bars and sample some great appetizers and small plates, not full meals.
Here’s what I have so far:
Dickie Brennans Steakhouse ($5 drinks and apps)
Hermes Bar (Oysters Rockefeller and Souffleed Potatoes)
Mr. B’s (Gumbo and BBQ Shrimp-do they do a small or half order?)
Arnaud’s French 75 (not sure they serve food?)
Is this a good plan? What am I missing? We're staying at the Roosevelt, so we'd like to stay on foot, and I imagine we'll start or finish at the Sazerac Bar.
