Minneapolis-St. Paul Dish of the Month May 2013 -- Tacos. Came on this thread to say that Los Ocampo (on Lake in Msp) last night/this morning at 1:45 hit the spot. We got the carnitas tacos and the pork was great; the limes and sauce are fantastic. 24 hrs Fri and Sat.---pretty awesome! |

an unusual place to find an EXCELLENT burger... Jimmy's Pro Billiards Thanks for the tip! This sounds like a great date. |

Great lists! I just had a muffuletta from Pizza Lucé when friends ordered delivery. It was delicious. |

Wonderful French bread loaves at 7 am...... You can find Rustica at Seward Co-op too. |

I love "fish filet" or white fish in black bean sauce...but that spice tasty broth sounds like it might bring me in to LS! I'm currently looking forward to using a groupon at Tea House in St. Louis Park. |

Homi - the best Mexican restaurant in the Twin Cities I've got to remember Homi. I went there when it first opened and a couple take-outs afterwards. I need to get back for the chili rellenos among other things! I'm not a fan of the inside but I definitely am of the food. |

Pad See Ew and Thai Red Curry. DELICIOUS. |

Good place for a catch up dinner & drinks I just met a friend for brunch at Hell's Kitchen and I have enjoyed meeting up with friends at Namaste and Triple Rock for Happy Hours. The Sample Room is nice. If the weather is nice, patios at the Happy Gnome and Frost's. |

Thanks for the nice write-up! |

This place is great. I brought in a broken tipped boning knife and got it fixed for $4. |

Lunch near University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN Indo Chin on Grand got a good review on Heavy Table recently. Going south towards Ford Parkway, there are more options too. I like Trotters but feel they are a bit too expensive overall. |

Ramen at United Noodles UniDeli Just had the spicy tonkatsu ramen yesterday and it was delicious. The broth was milky from doing it right and boiling those bones...good spice with bok choy, sprouts, the delicious char sui for the pork and a tea egg. They have raised the prices, but I can't complain because thankfully, they extended their hours. |

This is a great dish and because it's so regional, I can't wait to eat it and be transported back to chiang mai! |

How to Cook Thai Eggplant [Split from Minneapolis-St. Paul Board] One of the vendors at the Farmers Market told me to tell everyone how to cook the thai eggplant since no one is buying it. When I bought a basket, he said no one buys and I should tell everyone how to cook them. They are really easy to cook and delicious for an authentic green thai curry. I just pop them in my curry as it simmers. You want to use them quick because they will get dark/seedy like regular Italian eggplant. Here's some links with pics of them: http://www.shesimmers.com/2010/06/easy-thai-green-curry-recipe-interview.html |

Was not impressed in St. Paul and agree with Grindsfelder! |

Cooks Ilustrated Shout Out to Minnesota's Jucy Lucy I don't think this classifies as Jumping the Shark. If Craig Finn was on the show singing about it, maybe. I also don't think the Juicy Lucy should have the backlash that it is given. As a recent transplant and epicurious traveler, I love regional recipes. Is it fine dining? What?!@ It's a burger stuffed with cheese. It was nice to find a good way to cook these things. I think I would half the cubed deli American with some good cheddar. I like how they kept the meat moist with a panade. I enjoy homestyle recipes (like the patty melts I had tonight!) and although I did think it was fairly low-brow, I like the CI spot. Their following Cornell (NY) chicken and salt potatoes on that episode rocked too. |

Anyone Going to Minnesota Cheese Festival 06/03/12? I looked at their facebook page. Wow. |

Went to La Loma's in St. Paul near Phelan for desuyeno. Partner got chilaquiles which were better than my huevos rancheros. Next time, I'll order my eggs runny as they came out well done (on both dishes). The chilaquiles and fresh tortillas that came with the huevos rancheros were delicious. Tamales, excellent. |

What's the best Korean restaurant? Yes! and they have Kareoke with $1 beers! Hite and OB. Sole Cafe has beer too, but sadly Korea Restaurant and Dong Yang do not. |
|
|
What's the best Korean restaurant? I like Hoban and Dong Yang, but for ultimate taste and skill, I recommend Sole Cafe on Snelling. Got take-out with friends to sit outside Friday night and it was delicious. I'm not a fan of their Chicken gogi, but the Kalbi, the jap chae and the veggie pancake were great! |

Where can I find habernero (hot pepper) plants in the Twin Cities? 3/$1 peppers at the Hmong Market on Como. Oops...did I just give it away?!@ |
|
|
Merlin's Rest has some homemade chips too! I'm from the west coast so I love getting pickle chips here! |
|
|
boy that la loma desuyano menu looks delicioso! |
|

Favorite Restaurant to bring out-of-town guests? I would get some Bahn Mi from a good Vietnamese and ride around the Lakes. I live in St. Paul so I like Saigon, but I think there's a thread about a few good sandwich places in Mpls/Uptown/Eat Street. |

I still have not been to Grand Shanghai. But, I recently did show up at 10am for the Mandarin Kitchen experience and was not disappointed. So good. I now believe there is great Dim Sum here! |

Fish Fries & Church Suppers in MSP, 2011 edition I guess I can start a new thread... but I just ate at the Tavern on the Avenue for their all-you-can-eat fish fry and it was delicious. Greasy yummy but not super crispy hand-cut potatoes and coleslaw come with cod. The fish was moist and fried in clean oil; the breading was good. You have to put up with terrible music; it's a sports bar with a dining area, but the service was good and the beer was cold. They also had other items on their Lenten menu. |
