Gimmicky restaurant for 20th Birthday

Panna II is a great suggestion, but we go there with some regularity. I was looking also at Tea and Sympathy or A Salt and Battery - not gimmicky, but definitely twee.

Gimmicky restaurant for 20th Birthday

My younger sister is turning 20, and I'm taking her out to dinner. She likes the idea of gimmick-y places - Mars 2112, Ninja New York - but hates the idea of going to a ridiculous place with bad food. Any similar recs that have good cuisine? Entrees in the $15-$20 range.

Tim-Tams in NY?

Is there any place in NY where one can obtain Tim-Tams other than the Sunshine Cinema?

"Grief meal" near East Village?

Kind of an odd request - a good friend recently experienced a death in the family, and I want to buy her a really comforting breakfast. Any suggestions? Sorry for such a morbid inquiry!

Dilemma in DUMBO

I learned that first lesson the hard way - other than Forager's and the bagel place, the pickin's here are pretty slim.

For the record, I ended up taking a lunchtime bike ride to Court St, near Borough Hall, for cheap Mexican. It was decent lunch, as to be expected for under $5.

Dilemma in DUMBO

I forgot my wallet this morning, which means my lunch options are limited to either a) dumpster diving, or b) maximizing the $4.50 I managed in change I found in my purse.

So, is there a place in DUMBO where I can get something good (read: no pizza or bagels) for less than $5?

Thanks 'hounds!

Seeking Specific Brunch

My boss is looking for a place to host a brunch for a bunch of people. So, here are her specifications:

- able to seat 20 people
- W. Vil, SoHo, or Nolita
- not to "chi chi", just laid back
- varied menu (veg. friendly)

Thanks a lot!

Union Square Cafe alternative?

Couldn't get a 7.30 dinner reservation at USC for tomorrow night - before I crawl in there hoping for a stray table, are there any recommended alternatives within a similar price range? Union Square/Gramercy area preferred.

Dishes that wowed you

this might be a little low-brow, but a few nights ago i had a cocoanut rice pudding at curry leaf that blew me away. it was milky and sweet without being saccharine, a relief from all that spicy food.

Something relatively inexpensive - no pizzarias or "cosi" type places.

Red Bamboo equivalent?

Had an AMAZING meal at Red Bamboo a few nights ago - I was wondering if there's anything like it on the east side? I'm sick of vegetarian/vegan food that's been fried to death. This place was unlike anything I'd had before.
