Downtown Houston upscale Bar Dining
Two places that come to mind.. you should check out Hugo's, authentic mecican with a nice bar and really interesting menu. It is definatley on the upscale side with quality food and without the pretetiousness of some other top tier Houston restaurants. Otherwise you may want to try Feast . Somewhat of a gastro pub experience. Not sure if they have a bar but this place is extrmely reasonable and laid back with quality food that has received rave reviews. Both of these places are alternatives to the typical Houston "fine dining" scene that normally consists of steakhouses...
Philly Cheeseteak in Houston?
I'd try Jake's Philly Steaks and Sports Bar on Chimney Rock. I havent been in a long time but many say its the best in Houston...
Colombian restaurants on Richmond (HOU)
The only other place Ive had decent Colombian empanadas in town is at Marines on Hillcroft. They have pretty good baked goods as well. As far as grocery stores are concerned Ive actually found some decent Colombian chorizo at Phonecia. Not the deli but the gorcery store. Near Westheimer and Dairy Ashford. All kinds of good stuff there...
Where can I find the best chocolate lava cake in Houston???
Flemmings on Kirby has an amazing chocolate lava cake. You have to order it with your entree since it takes a while to make. A little on the pricey side but its well worth it.
Colombian restaurants on Richmond (HOU)
It's been a while since your post but being half Colombian I've eaten at both Mi Pueblito and Dodo's. Dodo's is incredibly good value. You simply order at the counter and they are known for their rotisseri chicken. Its a great place for take out. While chicken is pretty much the only entre on the menu it is fantastic and affordable. With this come the sides, make sure and try the fried yuca, rice and beans, and some arepas. Also the green spicy sauce called Aji that comes with the chicken is good on everything. Ive been to Mi Pueblito only a couple of times. Try the ajiaco. Its a thick soup/porrige thats very popular in Bogota. Also good at Mi Pueblito is the Bandeja Paisa, its alot of food but a nice sample of steak, pork rind, chorizo, beans, plantains, and rice with a fried egg on it. Heart attack special but mighty tasty. Colombian emanadas will also hold their own against any other latin American country...
