jfood's Salmon Croquettes
My mother made salmon croquettes and sometimes salmon loaf, I liked the croquettes better. She added the main ingredients for the croquettes and then would make a thick white sauce and added that as well to the mixture. They always stayed together well. Yum, how I wish I could have some of those days back..
Milkshakes around Bmore
You're right, my friend and I decided we wanted to go there today and it was closed, we settled for uno, not as good as one of her homemade sandwiches..
The pefect fried egg (why did it take me 30 years to figure this out?)
Hi alanbarnes,
I didn't think I would ever get it perfect either but I finally did. My mother got almost every time perfect but I would miss quite a bit and the yolk would be broken and messy. Well, an ex-boyfriend showed me how his grandma did it. The secret is the oil. She would have oil in the pany and then take the oil with the spatula and drop it onto the white as it's cooking. Keep doing that until ready to turn over and then turn over gingerly and finish cooking. When done, dig in and enjoy and then head straight for the gym.
Where are the best raw oysters in Baltimore?
I would have to say faidley's in Baltimore MD, Lexington Market. They sell on the 1/2 shell with the hot sauce and horseradish and beer of course to wash them down. It's always pretty busy at lunchtime each day.
Pizza Johns
The other day, people were talking about Pizza Johns which has got to be the best place for a cheese steak sub, pizza is wonderful too. I started going there as a young college student in the early 70's. It was just a hole in the wall then, not the showplace it is now. We would cut class or go there in the evenings and get a sub and then ride around in somebody's car just cruising looking up old boyfriends or maybe meeting new ones. Well, the sub was so thick with steak and cheese and my girlfriend would even get extra cheese. The juice from the sub while eating it would roll down your arms if you didn't have alot of napkins to catch it. When my children were born in the early 80's, I would take them and meet my mother-in-law there too. I still go there 3 decades later with my older son, who is autistic and is almost non-verbal but when he gets in my car and says "John's", I know exactly where he wants to go. He polishes off a whole 12" pizza and some fries. I order it ahead so that it's ready when we get there. I order either a chef salad or garden salad and try to only eat only 1 or 2 slices of pizza. Sometimes I take a cheesesteak sub home to my hubby well, yesterday, I ordered a 1/2 cheesesteak for myself. I could only eat 1/2 of the 1/2 with the salad so I took the rest home. It's real thick with steak and cheese and the roll was exquisitely crisp and the juice was dripping out, just like I rememebered all those years ago. It's nice to know in these bad economic times that some things have not changed, if you get a chance check it out, I promise you won't be disappointed.
Everyday Eating: Restaurants you frequent
this is just a reply to topic of restaurants you frequent. If I really have a craving for chinese, probably the best I've had is House of Chong in Glen Burnie. They definitely give you more than enough and for your meal and the next day or you can share 1 order with 1 or more other people. It is not fake chinese but the real thing. Everything is good there, people come from miles around to get their food. If I want italian, I go to the Olive Tree or Romanos italian grill in anapolis and for a great sandwich, I go to Chaps in Baltimore, MD.
NoodleWorld
Sounds alittle like Noodle Co. I love that place too. They have noodles that you add meat and vegetables to. You can make it as hot as you like.
DC/MD French fries?
I agree with you, a trip to OC for me is not complete without my Thrashers fries
Man Vs. Food
I don't know about H&D's in DC but my husband enjoy the fish sandwiches at Hollins market in Baltimore MD. I think the carry-out is called Steve's lunch. Koreans run the store.
