Best fresh cream cheese (flavored and plain) in Nassau Long Island
Thanks Scott. This thread has me thinking of making a strawberry cheesecake.
Best fresh cream cheese (flavored and plain) in Nassau Long Island
I'll report back if I get a free tasting:-)
Coll - any chance that you might post a heads-up when the strawberries start appearing at the road-side stands out by you?

I'm glad you mentioned this farm as I had forgotten about them. Have you tried their ricotta? Any good?

A little west of Nassau County, in Fresh Meadows, right off the L.I.E., Bagel Oasis claims to make their own cream cheese. Their bagels are great also.

"Jamie's Meals in Minutes"
Hey - what channel is showing this?
It is called 30 minute meals in the U.K. They must have changed the title for North American distribution because of the RR series.
Jam with what crackers?
In the interest of being helpful, I just fixed myself a couple of Jacob's cream crackers and jam for a late lunch. I also threw a TJ's water cracker in the mix to make it a more scientifically sound experiment. And the winner is.........................
the cream cracker!
Who knew? I never put jam on a cracker before, but I will from now on.
I had a piece of cheddar with the crackers and jam as well - a very nice combo.
Why do you continue shopping at CostCo? I am underwhelmed. What do you appreciate about the warehouse store?
Be happy! TJ's is going in to the new complex you referred to and Fairway will open (reportedly in August) in the old Expo site on Corporate Drive.
is there an equivalent TRAVEL site like CHOWHOUND (we need a "TRAVEL-HOUND" site)
Virtualtourist.com and frommers.com both have active community boards
Saved boards disappearing and changing order
My saved boards just reordered themselves and the Chains board disappeared from my saved boards. I added it back, no big deal, but something is wonky.
Edited to add that as soon as I sent that comment my saved boards were back to the original order.
Never mind:-)
Problems clicking on a thread
I just opened the breakfast thread and it was fine but the "why do you continue shopping at costco" thread (172 posts) on the Chains board was completely expanded.

Hah hah! That parking lot is not for the weak of heart. Getting there 5 minutes before opening is the only way to go. And just imagine what that whole Old Country Road/ Meadowbrook Parkway area will be like once the new Fairway and TJ's open - ugh!

There is a Stew Leonard's liquor store over on Glen Cove Road with a much larger, and competitively priced, selection of wines. It is less than 5 minutes from Costco. The liquor store at Costco has good prices, but a much smaller selection.

Same thing happened to me a few times today - same as Roxlet and Lingua report. Just now again with the "What did you have for breakfast today?" thread on the General Chowhounding board. I'm using Chrome.
Needed: A fabulous bone-in pork chop recipe, please!
Nice neighbor! If I had freshly butchered chops I would go with a less is more approach. Coat the chop with fresh herbs (maybe marjoram, oregano and thyme) and then pan roast it. Cook in an oven-safe skillet until well browned on the first side (about 4 minutes for a thick chop), then flip over and brown for one more minute and then finish in a 400 degree oven. Make sure to not overcook – the food police say 145 degrees but I always take them out of the oven at 140. Cover them with foil and let them rest a full 10 minutes before cutting in to them. Make a simple pan sauce from the pan drippings – white wine, chicken stock and cold butter.
I always brine chops but perhaps that is an unnecessary step with really fresh pork - I'm not sure.
Desperately seeking wild strawberries, to buy or pick
The farmer's markets are the obvious best place to get them in Manhattan. Fairway had upstate berries last summer that were gorgeous, small and sweet.

Can’t wait until they come in to season.
What's for Dinner #144 [old]
First of all, "Puritanistan" - hysterical!
And second, you have a Berlin pad? Nice! Enjoy your trip!
For dinner tonight I am making Chicken Milanese with a big salad - one of my favorite meals.
What did you have for breakfast today?
I vicariously enjoyed that nice, tasteful puff with you Mama. I do so miss that coffee/cigarette thing in the morning.
Leftover Lobster
Should you even end up in this predicament again, the Silver Palate recipe for Pasta with lobster and tarragon is dreamy.

What did you have for breakfast today?
Thanks for starting this thread Miri1. It has become my new favorite - there is something fascinating about how people start their day.
Any chance that it can be a series like they do on the HC board w/ the “What’s for Dinner” threads? They start a new thread after 300 posts, I think
Anywho, for breakfast today I had coffee w/1/2&1/2, about 3/4 of a Fage 2% plain yogurt (the dog gets the other 1/4 with his kibble); a cup of Trader Joes fiber cereal and a banana.
Yesterday was steamed broccoli sautéed in a bit of butter with garlic and a piece of grilled chicken.
And about 6 cups of water – every morning.
Jus De Poulet versus Glace De Poulet
The Jus is for sauces and gravies and the Glace for stock. I learned that the hard way after ordering the Jus multi-pak off Amazon.
Italian "crepes"
Ricotta AND Gorgonzola sounds really good! And heavy cream vs. Bechamel will "lighten" it up a bit too - hehe. Going to give this a whirl after my WW weigh-in this week.
Turkey Burger seasonings and moisteners
+1 on onions and mushrooms for moisture. And Worcestershire.
TJ California Olive Oil
Yes - I have bought it at their 14 Street store and on Long Island.

I bought a set of tires last year ($70 off) – best deal after searching online for a better price. That alone covered my membership fee for 2011.
From late May through October I stop in every week or two for a piece of wild Alaskan salmon (regularly half the price of what is sold in other stores). I reckon that it is equal to the membership fee alone. In addition I regularly buy:
wild Pacific halibut
live butter lettuce
cheese
Meyer lemons
sweet peppers
berries
sunblock
vinegar
seltzer
Kirkland shampoo and conditioner
And items I buy when they are on sale:
contact lenses
cleaning products
aspirin
allergy pills
toothbrushes
toothpaste
Italian "crepes"
Escondido is right. Google crespelle ricotta and recipe and you will get many hits. There is a Batali recipe for this dish on Food Network. And Hazan's crespelle recipe is posted on lots of blogs.
I have made them covered with a thin layer of bechamel and parmigiana as well and they are so good.
Indian- Western LI/Eastern Queens?
New Chili & Curry in Hicksville is great. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/11/nyregion/long-island/11dineli.html
And I also like Diwan in Port Washington.
The best garlic bread ever!
The Manero’s in Roslyn, NY (same mini-chain) was our steakhouse when I was a kid and that garlic bread was out of this world. I don’t remember the cheese tho??? But I do remember my Dad had to order a second basket for us every time.
Thanks for the great childhood (buttery, garlicky) memory blast Cheese Boy!
