I'm not a fan of the Anisette version. Le Petit Bistro's is pretty good. Had a really good version at Chez Mimi on 26th Street a few weeks ago. (Chez Mimi also had a Coq au Vin special that was the best I've ever had!) |

Upscale Italian or Steak in Beverly Hills, or Santa Monica- quiet with spacious dining room? +1 for Vincenti |

Osteria Latini on San Vicente in Brentwood. Paolo recently got a new pasta maker, and is doing a lot of homemade noodles out of brass dies. Really, really good. He also usually has fabulous seafood on order. ----- |

Visiting SFer asks: What LA institutions are worth visiting? Re: Langers - totally disagree! You need to sit down and eat your sandwich while it is still warm! Don't worry about parking or driving - from downtown take the subway! It's a quick trip which will let you off 1/2 a block away. And you can tell your friends in SF that you rode an actual subway in LA, and it's even better than BART! |

I need The Hottest Hot Wings in LA! Mr. Cecil's California Ribs (Pico near the 405) serves delicious wings. Not the spiciest, but man, they are good. |

+1. The spicy szechuan won-ton soup at Yang Chow is fabulous. Spicy enough to bring on sweat and tears, but you can't stop eating it. Oooo, I shouldn't read this board so close to lunch . . . ----- |

Private Dining Room for 60 in Santa Monica/Venice - Rehearsal Dinner No membership needed, the upper club is available to the public for events. www.belairbayclub.com - click on "Weddings and Events". You just need to call their catering folks. |

Sor Tino in Brentwood was offering a black truffles over asparagus ravioli the other evening, for $40. Delicious, and she brought out the truffle for us to look at and smell before they shaved it. Rich enough that you might want to share the dish. They fresh fettucini with wild mushrooms was amazing too. Plus they have one of the most reasonably priced Italian wine lists in the city. |

Seared foie gras in Los Angeles? +1. Amazing! |

Private Dining Room for 60 in Santa Monica/Venice - Rehearsal Dinner You might call the Bel Air Bay Club. The upper club is available for dinners or events, and they do a nice job. Choices run from caviar and oysters to enchiladas and tacos. Much more intimate than a hotel ball room, and the views are as good as you get in Los Angeles. |
