Is there a Toronto (or surrounding area) specialty?

back in the late 80's and early 90's there seemed to be 3 donut shops at most intersections, i am happy that has thinned out-although our waistlines still show the results of those days....

One day, this Friday, in Toronto (West Queen West)

skip vdara and nyood and leave the car in the garage and walk up up ossington and check out he scene there, or cross under the bridge and head the cadillac lounge for some music and parkdale's largest patio...the food isn't great but he vibe is good.

Birthday party venue in Toronto

oops, sorry about that, i don't think of it as pricey-the patio is just one of the best around...especially if you want a group to be able to sit around a chat too, we tend to order smaller stuff and share...

the drake on queen west has a great patio too as does fuzion on church.

all of these places have a club, loungy feel to them-especially as the sun sets and beyond....

Scotch egg in Toronto

although most often served cold here, they are great went fresh out of the fryer or at room temperature. i dislike the out of the fridge versions sold here....so i prefer to make them at home instead, very easy to do

Anyone know anything about Liberty Noodle?

the whole area isn't dead, Raaw is not the standard for the hood. As much as I hate the Brazenhead-it does well, Mildred's is doing well, Carole's Kitchen is doing well, School is packed on the weekends, Liberty Cafe, Merci Mon Ami...all very consistent with business levels and the whole area is packed when the Toronto FC play.

Did anyone go to summerlicious 2009?

i'm glad you had a great meal for your anniversary, but i question your husband's choice of liciousing for such an important date....shaved beets and leg of lamb sound great!

and sorry about the not so great-but i have never been to 7#'s.

Excellent brunch at School Bakery & Cafe

i am at a loss to understand the appeal of this place other than location and the fact it is somewhat newish and everyone wants to hop on the latest trend so as not to be out of fashion. but you wait to get in, you wait to get served and you wait for food-they should rename the customer as the waiter. the food is sometimes great, but usually mediocre. there are other places in toronto and even in the neighborhood that are better and more established. mildred's temple kitchen, the liberty are just two within blocks of the place.

Recommendations for Superb Breakfast Place?

Mildred's Temple Kitchen, Mitzi's, Mitizi's Sister

All of which are southwest of Yorkville and about a $25 cab ride. MTC and MS are both very TTC accessible, original Mitzi's is a few blocks north of the queen street car tho.

Recession wedding!

Most hotels waive rental fees if food and/or beverage is purchased through hotel, but most hotels don't allow outside food and/or beverage.

Straight rental fees usually apply when someone holds a conference or meeting style of event without food and beverage attached.

Recession wedding!

the recession should be well into recovery by next summer and shrewd operators will be careful about booking something more frugal now with that in mind. Also, be careful with deposits and the like because the economy now might mean that the operator may not be there for your special day.
