New Greek restaurant in Bronxville (Chester Heights)

We had dinner last night at Elia Taverna.Didnt know about the restaurant until reading the dining section of Westchester magazine. We figured we give it a try. We got there around 8PM so there was no wait ( our waiter told us that arriving between 7-8 typically has await)

Waiter was very friendly and attentive. We started with warm pita and olives and ordered the dolmades appetizer which was very good. I ordered a grilled whole fish and my companion ordered swordfish kabobs. Both were very good. Its still BYOB , so next time we will bring a bottle of wine with us .. The people at the next table gave us their bottle when they left - which was really nice of them!

We had the baklava for dessert.. also good.

overall - great to have a greek place in the area. prices were good. Its a nice casual place and will do when we dont feel like driving to astoria, or the city for a greek meal!

Thai in Westchester - Rate Your Best

Ive tried many of Tangerine Thai's dishes, most just ok, but my favorite there is the Thai noodle soup . Its delicious!! Wish it came in a bigger portion! - It helps satisfy my noodle soup cravings... now if only a vietnamese /pho place would open in westchester or fairfield county.!....

For regular Thai dishes i think Bangkok Thai in mamaroneck is better... still havent found a favorite thai yet....but will keep looking...

Eating at Tarry Lodge

We went to Tarry Lodge for a birthday celebration a couple weeks ago.. Id say we hade mixed results... i loved the atmosphere (loved the colors in the room) but was disappointed with the table we were given. Even though they knew it was a birthday, they sat us at the table closest to the door. We thought about asking for a different table, but decided to not make an issue of it.

The winners of the evening were the wine list and the Brasato al Barolo. The Brasato was very good., although the polenta side was just ok My dish was the lamb chops which were ok but i prefer the lambchops at Thali (they've spoiled me) . Salads were somewhat disappointing.

We asked the waitress to recommend wine. She was knowledgable (although not particularly friendly) and although the wine was expensive by the glass you actually get two glasses worth for each order.. My boyfriend loved the wine that he tried.

The desserts were good, but the waitress made a couple mistakes with the order.

Overall - we liked the atmosphere, had a nice evening, but decided that if we came back we would try the pastas.

Actually, the last time i was at Cava, i had to send back my salmon since it was undercooked - so you may have a point .. i do like the atmosphere, though...

Best Indian food in Fairfield County, CT

Give Thali one more try and next time order their signature Lamb chops, and the chicken korma.. Their korma is so good, we never order the dish anywhere else since the other places never compare. i agree, they are expensive -- so we also go to other indian places as well --- but definitely worth it for some of their dishes..!

Some additional recommendations nearby:

Valencia Luncheria in Norwalk.. Small, funky, inexpensive place - venezuelan -- We found them in Zagats -- great eggs, rice and beans for breakfast.. - wonderful fresh fruit drinks, coffees. Great empanadas, arepas, etc.. --- there was a show on them on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives (on the Food Network).

For great Pasta, -- try Pasta Nostra in South Norwalk. Delicious food and they always have wonderful olive oils for tasting.

For a nice dinner and wine list , try Napa in Stamford..

For Thai food - Mrs Kitts on high ridge road in stamford is great., particularly for takeout. . Also try little Thai Kitchen in Darien.

We had a nice dinner last night at Portofino in Wilton. The Tuna Tartar appetizer is excellent. i had the sole and it was wonderful.

For a great meal, and if you like fish, do not miss the sworfish with crispy spinach and soba noodles at Splash in Westport ... We also recommend F.I.S.H in PortChester.. Its hard to find and is a bit of a drive from NC, but great menu -- great atmostphere and fun drinks.
