DFW to Terlingua
You'll be hard pressed to find anything great in Abilene that you can't find in Dallas. Betty Rose's has a decent menu for BBQ (they are scattered throughout town). There are a couple of decent thai and asian fusion places along S 1st street (Taste of Asia and Ann's Thai Kitchen).
Honolulu/Oahu--udon and/or soba joint?
We've always liked Tokkuri-Tei for Udon (and sushi as well).

I don't really care in what direction of Abilene. So far I haven't found any kind of IGA here.
Meat Market in North Central Texas
I am looking for a good meat market within about an hour of Abilene. We just moved here and when we lived in Wisconsin last winter there were some great local places where we could buy good cheap cuts and fantastic home done jerky. Figuring that we're now in Texas I'm hoping that we can find something similar.
