Black Bear Saloon in Hartford? Anyone been here?

Don't bother - agree with comment of "close your eyes and you could be in any chain restaurant" - totally unmemorable food, LOUD with lots of drinkers in the bar - the restaurant was almost empty.

Wolferman's

Was able to pick up a single sleeve at local Harry and David store. Not overly impressed. I too prefer good old Thomas's over these. Just too much bread.

Day After Thanksgiving Brunch (West Hartford, CT area)

If you don't mind going a bit further west, on the other side of Avon Mountain is Ferme in the Avon Old Farms Hotel. They do breakfast, not sure if anything special for day after Thanksgiving. Lovely room and atmosphere, upscale. http://www.fermerestaurant.com/index.html

help a pregnant girl figure out dinner (Hartford, CT area)

Couple of thoughts -
Plan B Burger Bar - in West Hartford, Simsbury, and Glastonbury. Really good burgers but also tasty other menu items, usually a couple of decent home made dessert options, and family friendly.
J Timothys in Plainville - I'm a fan of the wings, but they have pretty good menu and family friendly.,

Burger along Merritt/Rt 15 or I-91 between Norwalk-Hartford?

No doubt - one of the best if not the best burger in CT - Shake Shack in Westport. On the Post Rd between 91 and the Merritt.

Chef's Dog House, Newington, CT-----good stuff

I was excited to try this place until I read "skinless dogs". Really??? No snap, what's the point.

What's new and exciting in CT (Hartford or New Haven)

Check out the Mill at 2T - a bit off the beaten path in Tarriffville, but daily menu changes, upscale food, casual great atmosphere.

I need recs for good BBQ along the length of CT-15 from I-84 to NY

You can do 84 to 8 to 15 - and stop off 84 in Farmington CT at Flaggstead Smokehouse on Farmington Ave. The owner is from Austin, TX, and has excellent, authentic Texas BBQ - the brisket is amazing. It's no more than 10 minutes off the highway, and a straight shot back afterwards.

Plz, your suggestions 4 Inland CT Snackin' Best of the Best Road Trip

Thanks for doing the follow up, glad you enjoyed Sheik's. Last time I was there I was craving a good Italian combo, so I ordered the Big Boy Panini - proscuitto, genoa, capicola, provolone, and fresh mozz with lettuce, tomato, and peppers. Little did I know it was a "challenge" sandwich, so it arrived on an entire loaf of bread (um, for less than $10.... what a bargain). I ate a quarter of it there, and made 2 more meals of it for lunch that week. Anyplace that slices the meat when you order the sandwich is a winner in my book!

Plz, your suggestions 4 Inland CT Snackin' Best of the Best Road Trip

Stop in Torrington off Route 8 at Sheik's Sandwiches, pick up some great sandwiches to go and bring them with you to the dam in Barkhamstead and have a picnic overlooking the reservoir. Harry's in Colchester should be open until the end of October - finish the day there with a great little burger or fried clams and an ice cream.
If you are looking for something a little nicer, swing through Simsbury after Barkhamstead and stop for lunch at Metro Bis, or go via Windsor and stop at the Union Street Tavern.

Ditto Little City Pizza - really great, especially with New Haven an hour away!

Windsor or Hartford dining?

The Union Street Tavern has a great space, and good food - nice pub/bistro, decent prices. A little further away, but really easy to get to from Windsor is the Mill at 2T in Tarriffville if you are looking for something more upscale. Great casual, fine dining - menu changes daily. Highly recommend both places.

Best Bets for Dinner at Mohegan Sun this Saturday night?

We've had consistent good food at the Birches restaurant at Mohegan. I also like the Michael Jordan sportcafe, and am a huge fan of Pepe's for pizza.

Jake's Hamburgers, CT---anyone been?

We stopped a few months back, hoping for a great new burger joint. Have to agree with poster above, very meh overall. Nothing stood out as great, everything was average - burgers had little flavor, rolls were average white bread-y, fries were average.

Busines Lunch around St Francis off of Asylum in Hartford??

Walking, or driving?

Abigail's Grille Simsbury Ct.

Have only done lunch with some friends, but all of us cleaned our plates, and the service was really good. Planning on going back for dinner.

Flaggstead Texas Smokehouse, Farmington, CT

The beef rib had a great crunchy exterior, juicy juicy meat with just enough fat to give me a little of the "burnt end" touch. The pork ribs were on the dry side, and just not really flavorful - the meat came right off the bone, but compared to the brisket, sausage, and beef rib the pork ribs were far far in last place for flavor.

Flaggstead Texas Smokehouse, Farmington, CT

Our first trip there last week - owner friendly, chatty. Got the bronto-sized beef rib, was amazing. Combo platter brisket and sausage were good, the ribs just eh. Will definitely go back.

Sausage/Smokehouse

I second the Nodine's recommendation - excellent quality, try the 10 clove of garlic bacon!

Dish n Dat, Canton

We went yesterday - overall I was disappointed. Ordered chicken wings, turned out to be those pushed-up "lollipop" drums that were breaded and deep fried, with hot sauce on the side. Didn't care for them. Salads were ok, nothing great, but edible (caesar - in a ridiculous bowl, and a wedge salad). Tried the Penne Bolognese - the only way I can describe it is pot roast over pasta. Had no flavor, big chunks of stringy meat. Capper was I found a longish hair that had been cooked it that had pieces of meat clinging to it. Server was nice enough to take it away and remove it from the bill without being asked, but came back to the table with a story about how cooking basil in the sauce actually turned into "filaments" and that's what I found, not a hair. Oh well. Husband had the french dip, was a decent sandwich. I may try it again, but there are so many decent restaurants to choose from they need to improve the quality of the food or we won't go back.

Moving to Avon CT next month

I'll second the recommendations, and urge you to take the drive to Manchester to check out Pepe's. There's also good pizza across from the Farmington Country Club off Rt 10 at Naples pizza.

Fast Food Chains in CT- What's best?

Unfortunately northern CT lacks originality with fast food chains....try Popeye's for something different, and little more tasty than the burger joints. You'd be better off looking at diners right off the highway - in most cases they will offer quick service, and certainly better choices than something with a drive thru. Vernon Diner, Olympic come to mind quickly -

Great Caesar salad within 30 mins of Bradley Airport?

Having a craving for a great Caesar salad, any suggestions?
