Ridgefield, CT dinner

Rizzutto's is excellent, and fairly close.

Need a recommendation for a 44th wedding anniversary dinner for my husband and I tonight in Westport or nearby towns.

We went to Rive Bistro last week and thought it was excellent. A little pricey but about average for Westport. Food and service were both excellent. http://rivebistro.com/

Sunday lunch/brunch in Westport

The Gray Goose in Southport is very close to Westport and very good.

Restaurant.com gift certificates

I've used them quite a few times, they definitely save you money. You are usually blocked from using them on Fri/Sat, but for mid-week dining out they're great.

Ki Asian Bistro and Sushi, Danbury, CT.

Well, based on your positive posts, we tried it out Friday night. I must say, it was some of the best sushi I've ever had. The entire experience was very positive.

Everyone there was very friendly, even the sushi chef greeted us and thanked us for coming. The waitresses descriptions were so enthusiastic, we had to laugh. If only their English was a little easier to understand.

The sushi was very fresh, and everything was delicious. We had the Maguro avocado app, which was chunks of tuna, avocado ans wasabi oil, and it was great. The fancy roll and Ki Asian roll were also notable.

It was a little on the expensive side, but I think it was worth it.

We will definitely be back. Sorry House of Yoshida, this place is going to give you some trouble.

Looking for Dinner at "old country inn" - good food, roaring fireplace!

What about Stonehenge or Bernard's in Ridgefield? Both are excellent and both have fireplaces.

Fairfield County Neighborhood Italian Restaurants-Solid Food with reasonable prices

Tonelli's in Bethel. The food is consistently good, and huge portions. Their eggplant parm is excellent, as is their spaghetti in red clam sauce. Their lasagna's pretty good too.

Prices are reasonable, but did go up after they renovated. Still a very good value, especially when you consider that you take home more than you can eat.

Underwhelmed by Napa & Co (Stamford, CT)

I hate to pile on, but I feel exactly the same way. I've eaten at Napa 5 or 6 times, but always as someone's guest.

Last weekend, I took my wife and her mother there for dinner. The bill came to $325 with tip. I knew the prices when I ordered, so I'm not claiming I was surprised, but I thought it was overpriced.

We had 3 apps, I had the burger and wife and MIL each had a pasta. We split one dessert. We each had two glasses of wine.

I think the food's good, but not that good.

pepe's "sorry no clams" question

Maybe they're all in Danbury... We had lunch at the Danbury Pepe's today and there were plenty of clam's. My pie had a boatload of large, fresh, briny clams. Mmmm-mmmm delicious!

Like La Zingara in Bethel, Ct but NOT La Zingara

You may want to consider La Fortuna in Bethel. It's a little off the beaten path and doesn't get much press. We eat there about twice a year and always enjoy it. We have had some excellent meals there, some very good meals and some decent ones. We've never had a bad meal. Their specials are consistently good. If you go on a nice night, you can sit outside which adds to the experience.

It's kind of like La Zingara, but not exactly.

The Single Most Disappointing Meal Of My Entire Life (Bethel CT)

Wow, that's a shame. We live in Redding and eat at House of Yoshida pretty regularly (once every four - six weeks +/-). I don't think I've ever had a bad meal; certainly not anything like what you're describing.

While I wouldn't rate it a 3 or 4 star dining experience, I've always found their service to be very friendly and the sushi quite good. It may not be Bar Masa, but for northern Ffld Cty, it's pretty good. I've actually never been there when one of the two owners weren't there. Granted, I've never eaten there on a Sunday night, but still. Next time, try the maki and the appetizer specials; they're generally pretty reliable.

Better yet, if you're in town for awhile, try La Zingara - very good Italian or Pizzeria Lauretano - excellent wood-fired, brick oven pizza. And finally, the burgers at the new Greenwoods Grille and Ale House are almost as good as the fabled Cherry Street East burgers in New Canaan.

Best Steak in Fairfield County

I'm a big fan of Giovanni's in Stamford. I generally don't order steaks out (too easy to grill at home), but Giovanni's is where I go when I'm in that mood. Good quality steaks, great onion rings, really good garlic bread and a great gorgonzola salad. They've got a pretty decent wine list as well.

Italian Restaurant in Provincetown?

I always enjoy Sal's Place. It's right on the water on Commercial St. in the West End. Good steak pizzialo, good pastas, nothing spectacular, but good food in a great setting. The spaghettini al burro e formaggio as a side dish, or con funghi are excellent. So's the carbonara. Try to sit outside under the awning if possible.

Provincetown recs - help!

You have to try Moby Dick's for the lobster roll. It's on rt 6 in Wellfleet, about 20 min's from P'town. A great, casual place with excellent lobster rolls.

I would also recommend Sal's Place for dinner in P'town. It's on Commercial St. on the harbor in the west end of town. It's not a 4 star gourmet restaurant, but good southern Italian. We haven't been to P'town for a few years, but we always have dinner here at least once when we go.

Are there any real Italian restaurants in Fairfield county?

I second La Zingara. It's now my go-to special occasion Italian place. Especially in the warmer months when you can sit outside on their back patio. They also have a farm in Dutchess Cty where they grow their own vegetables for their salads and sides - very nice, very fresh).

Looking for a Great Cuban Sandwich in FFD CTY CT

We went for lunch in back in December and I thought it was decent. There were 6 of us, but nobody else was in the restaurant; I hope they survive.

Foodie Advice for Newtown, CT

We had dinner at Toro last weekend, which is an 'asian fusion' restaurant on Church Hill Rd., just west of Queen st. We had sushi, which was excellent. Several of the house special rolls were very creative and quite tasty.

Looking for a Great Cuban Sandwich in FFD CTY CT

Habana in Stamford has a decent one. it's not the best I've ever had, but it isn't bad either (although with a 'mind-numbing sinus infection' you probably won't be able to tell the difference).

DANBURY, CT/BREWSTER, NY AREA RESTAURANTS FOR BOYFRIEND'S BIRTHDAY

We eat at Putnam House pretty regularly (every other week or so). It's a good restaurant, but not over-the-top, gourmet/foodie great.

The food is always good, the service is good (and friendly) and the prices are pretty reasonable. It's a very reliable stand-by for us.

The owner used to work at the Roadhouse so there are a lot of similarities. It's the same, but different, if you know what I mean.

Fairfield CT - Great Cheese

109 Cheese & Wine is a new shop that opened in the Copps Hill Marketplace in Ridgefield. It is owned by Monica, the same woman that owns Cellar XV across the street. Excellent cheeses and accompaniments. I purchased several yesterday that were excellent. I prefer my cheeses pungent, and the Munster (not Muenster) was perfect, the shropshire blue was also excellent as was the Brillat-Savarin mentioned by another poster. this one was perfectly ripe and not at all ammonianated.

Contes Gone - Rizzutos In? (Westport CT)

Unfortunately it's true. I say that only because I liked Contes. On the other hand, I also like Rizzutos. I haven't eaten at the one in Westport, but we go to the one in Bethel fairly frequently (every other month or so). Food is good, some of it is very good. decent wines by the glass. The downside is that it's a tad overpriced. Not ridiculously so, but still on the high side. Compared to some other places in Westport, it will probably be right in line.

Provincetown Dead of Winter...help me decide...

A trip to Ptown has to include a dinner at Sal's Place. A family favorite of ours since we started going to Ptown in the 70's. We've gone every year we've been there. Casual atmosphere, popular with the locals, friendly staff. The steak pizzaiola and spaghettini carbonara are always excellent. Sal hasn't owned it since the late 80's, but the 'new' owners (since '89) have kept the tradition. Definitely worth a try. http://www.salsplaceofprovincetown.com

Blue Hill @ Stone Barns

I took several clients there last spring and we had the chef's tasting menu. It was absolutely incredible. When the first course came out, I thought that we were going to have to stop at a diner on the way home. By the time we were finished, I was extremely satisfied without being stuffed. I thought it was an excellent meal in all respects - quality, service, quantity, creativity, etc. - I would definitely go back.
One of the highlights was the pickled ramp martini which was the special drink of the evening. I have not had a better martini anywhere.

New to Fairfield, CT from Manhattan - your favorite restaurants?

Personally, sausage/light onion is the only way to go. On the good china, that is...
