Victoria - Lunch Spot on Sunday?
Thanks for reporting back, I'm intrigued by Ulla now, will definitely check it out.
Victoria - Lunch Spot on Sunday?
Not open for lunch, and they call themselves a French restaurant!
Victoria - Lunch Spot on Sunday?
Hi,
I spotted this French brasserie on Yelp and it gets fantastic reviews. I can't wait to try it myself. http://www.lecole.ca/index.php
Salad anyone?
Yes it would, but I'm not sure whether I want to resign myself to a summer without gazpacho or salad.
Salad anyone?
I'm interested in knowing how people are dealing with the E-coli crisis. I'm not sure if I should buy cucumbers even if I peel them. What about tomatoes? Are they safe to eat raw if washed in baking soda?
What cheese should I use for Chicago style pizza?
I'm going to attempt to make an Uno type pizza Friday night, and am wondering what a good substitute for American type Mozzarella cheese would be here in Northern France (Valanciennes). I feel like Italian Mozerella would be too watery. Any suggestions?
Overwhelmed by Choice - Paris restaurant this Saturday night
We just had a lovely dinner last Saturday day night at Aux Lyonnaise http://www.auxlyonnais.com/index2.html close to the Opera. Great rollicking fun atmosphere, attentive service and wonderful food (make a reservation) and you can download the menu. Was recommended in lotilde Dusoulier's book on Paris. Try the Oeuf cocotte aux morilles, vin jaune et comté for a starter, it was ***divine***. You could have the Quenelles à la lyonnaise, sauce Nantua for a main, which was also great, although I'm not sure if you can have lobster or not, sorry....
Recommendations for a place to stop between Quimper and either St. Emilion or Sarlat-de-Caneda
I second the recommendation of Creperie Courot in Pont l'Abbe wholeheartedly. I've enjoyed many wonderful gut-stuffing meals there.

I found that the leader price fromage a tartiner worked really well, much better than the st-Moret or the Kiri. Thanks for the tip!
Looking for Jewish grocery tips in Paris
Thanks for all your replies. It seemed as though Chez Marianne was the only falafel joint open in the area on Saturday, which probably accounted for the 100+ people in the take-out window line-up. There was also a line-up for the restaurant, so in the end I didn't even get a falafel, more's the pity. If I had been alone I might have done the queue, but I took pity on my poor husband. Israel was amazing, stupidly I completely forgot about the matza and left with shopping bags full of things like big fat vanilla beans, and amazing spices. I did get the fava beans however, but I was surprised as I thought they were green, but they were brown. Maybe after they're soaked.... I will definitely try the Roden recipe, thanks for the tip.
Looking for Jewish grocery tips in Paris
You know, that was my first choice for a falafel but they are closed on Saturday which breaks my heart, so I'm going to Chez Marianne across the street which is also supposed to be good, but not the best -sigh- C'est la vie. Thanks for the reply and the good wishes.
Looking for Jewish grocery tips in Paris
Lucky me to be spending a sunny Saturday in Paris (tomorrow). One of the places I'm going to is supposed to be one of the best Israeli grocery stores, it's called Izraël, at 30 rue François Miron. My main goal is to get my hands on some Matzoh - I'm tired of reading about it and want to finally try it for myself. Also, I adore falafels and I've read that in israel they are made with fava beans. Are they normally dried and need soaking like chickpeas?
If anyone could recommend a type of Matzoh I should start with, clear up the fava bean mystery and let me know if there is anything else in the Jewish food world that shouldn't be missed please let me know. Thanks!
cream cheese crisis
Thanks for the tip, there's a Leaderprice around the corner so I'm going to check it out. Not sure about the Marscapone working for frosting as it's on the thin side, but I'm going to explore the fromage frais.
cream cheese crisis
Thanks for the info, I'm definitely going there next time I'm in town.
cream cheese crisis
Thanks for the link. I'm wondering how they sell a product on-line that should stay refrigerated? Have you ever ordered it? I also saw that they carry Mott's Clamato juice, and this canuck is seriously excited.
cream cheese crisis
I'm so tired of not being able to find an American type cream cheese that will work properly in a cake frosting. St. Moritz is too thin, and I've been using Kiri but it's just not the same. It's passable on a rectangle cake but I tried to use it on a 3 layer red velvet cake last night and it was a real disaster, actually sliding off the cake. Does anyone have any suggestions? I live an hour from Paris in a small village so anything that can be found in a supermarche would be great.
Breakfast casserole?
Thanks for demystifying the world of breakfast casseroles for me. I'm just getting into them, and I love giving the kids a nice warm breakfast on a cold morning. There are so many recipes out there it can get a little confusing!
What food items should I bring home from Paris? Like Haricot Tarbais.
Fleur de sel. Any decent sized grocery store will have an amazing slection to choose from. If I were leaving France I think I would fill up my suitcase with it :)
