Best and worst on the Outer Banks

Vegetarian eats at a barbeque joint in eastern NC would be quite a contradiction, I believe. I can’t imagine many places outside of Chapel Hill that would offer both and do them well. Nevertheless, I’m glad you found something in Corolla.

You’re in a beautiful place with many terrific outdoor places to eat. Why not do take out at a couple of places and REALLY enjoy the Outer Banks?

I think High Cotton has the best barbeque in the area for sure. There used to be an excellent place on Roanoke Island called Saul’s (it later moved to the mainland on 158, but was not quite as good).

Go to http://www.vegobx.com/ for vegetarian spots.

Ahhh, a marriage planned between a meat eater and a vegetarian….good luck!

Buz and Ned's BBQ - Richmond Report

Having grown up on the VA/NC border, I had always been dissapointed in Richmond's BBQ, that is, until I finally went to Buz and Neds. Great Q and a terrific beer selection. I just wish they'd expand -- their tight quarters certainly will limit their business, But that's probably a "small" part of their appeal -- it seems the best Q joints are the very smallest.

Best and worst on the Outer Banks

I've been living and vacationing at the OBX for 4 decades. Best resturants are the Collington Cafe and Sam and Omies. The best place to get seafood is at AUSTINS SEAFOOD hands down. I had a BAD experience with Billy and the seafood of BILLY'S SEAFOOD.

Danville, VA

I grew up in Danville and love to eat and drink. Although I moved away in th 80's for college et cetera, I love to visit and eat. For lunch, you MUST go to SCHOOLFIELD LUNCH on West Main Street. It's a classic bar-stool only lunch counter (literally) that hasn't changed since the 60's. No chairs or booths. It's hey-day was when textiles were booming; folks of all walks of life bellied up to the counter for amazing meals. You'll never get a better club sandwich (get the Senior Club) or plate lunch. The crew hasn't changed much in 2 decades. I agree that Mary's is a great place too. If you can find the DanView, I'd recommend it too. Short Sugars bar-b-q is good, but it's best version is over the border in Reidsville NC. Go to Schoofield Lunch -- it'll change your life!!!
