Suggestions for Wailea / Kihei area?

I personally don't care much for the location and atmosphere of Stella Blues, but their plain buttermilk pancakes are the best I have had on Maui, perhaps anywhere in the U.S.! I get them with the white sticky rice and coconut syrup and butter and wash it all down with one of their very good hot chocolates. Can you say delicious carbs?

Suggestions for Wailea / Kihei area?

The Honolua General Store, in Kapalua near the Ritz Carlton is a really cute classic little plantation style store with cheap take out and order food. They don't take orders after around 3 pm. I have never gotten breakfast there, but it is cheap and has a nice selection and they have tables outside and incredible views of the world class golf course. The counter ladies can be a bit rude and while the pasta salad looks like it would be really yummy, it has always been a disappointment, having sort of a weird "refrigerated" off taste.

The true treasure I have found though from this little store is the INCREDIBLE DECADENT CHOCOLATE CAKE. It is AMAZING! I live an hour drive away and I will drive over just to see if they have a slice of this cake left. They sell it where you order coffee drinks, along with cookies, crossaints and cupcakes (all pricey and expensive) but the real gem is the amazing, multi layer rich fudgy decadent chocolate cake they sell. It reminds me a lot of chocolate cake a grocery store in New York state called Wegman's has become famous for selling in their bakery department...is a similar fudgy confection of deliciousness.

Anyway, by some miracle Honolua General Store has this cake available a few days a week, if you are lucky they'll have it because it sells fast! It costs about $6.00-$7.00 but two people can easily eat it because it is a huge slice. I have no idea where they get it, I would like a whole one for birthdays and special occasions! If you are there and happen to see a slice available, do yourself a huge favor and buy it. :-)

Breakfast in Cedar Rapids/Iowa City?

I agree, the Bluebird Diner is excellent . I go with friends nearly every weekend and there is always a wait for seating, but its worth it. They serve breakfast until 1 PM. The owners are very nice and the place is clean and well managed. The omlettes are so amazing, and the pancakes can be topped with strawberries, or pecans or bananas, all for $3.50! We always bring a paper to read and sip the coffee while we wait for the food...it can be a little backed up because of the crowd so don't go there if you are in a rush. The only menu item that hasn't been spectacular was the cinnamon roll french toast, which we thought was dry and disappointing, but the hashbrowns are done perfectly and the other items offered are truly high quality and excellent, and very reasonably priced. The coffee is great too (see picture!) We also have gone to Hamburg Inn #2 which is good, but in our opinion a little dirty feeling and cramped. We also went once to Lou Henri's after reading good reviews and were rather disappointed because the food was unmemorable and the place felt dirty (example, so many half dead plants in the windows in pots and dead bugs in the windows)...it was a little bit too hippie for our taste.
