October 2009 Grocery Outlet

A company in Napa who stores and resells older vintage wine needed cash flow.

The Grocery Outlet in San Jose (on Williams) still has a lot of 1995 Clos du Val.

Any tasting notes?
Which ones did you try?

Upscale Vegetarian in San Francisco

Another good option is Manresa. La Folie is another option. My vote would go to Manresa or The Dining Room. I haven't been to Ubuntu yet.

Greens and Millenium are...dependable, but nothing really makes me want to go back to either.

Wedding dinner question

Thanks for the input everyone, I'll call around.

Wedding dinner question

Thanks for your input, but I don't think it would apply in my scenario.

Wedding dinner question

This will end up being the likely solution. Not ideal, but it works.

Wedding dinner question

As a SF Bay Area born Cantonese guy, I've been to my share of Chinese wedding banquets. Now it's my turn to host one.

My fiance and about 10 of her guests are strict vegetarians. No meat or meat stock of any kind (Cantonese people tend not to view seafood as meat haha). Eggs are fine. Ginger/Garlic are fine (some Buddhist vegetarians avoid those flavorings).

I'm pretty sure 100% of the Cantonese banquet menus have all meat in the dishes. I would say the only dish not to have any meat in it would be the red bean dessert soup at the end.

While I would prefer to have it in a restaurant, I'm open to other ideas.

How would you solve our food problem if all the following restrictions apply:

1) I only want to have one dinner event with everyone attending. Lets say total of ~100 people.
2) Food needs to stay Chinese (not necessarily Cantonese)
3) Food needs to maintain a high quality (and sadly, a high perceived food cost and quantity). While I really don't care about shark fin soup and the highest grade of abalone, many of my guests probably will.

thanks!
