i work at the just opened cafe royal on nassau and humboldt. it's pretty quiet, there's free wifi, good croissants, and stumptown french press. : )

Brooklyn Thai (that doesnt suck)

I might be a total Thai noob but i really like Amarin Cafe in Greenpoint. Their curry is very good and the pad thai is really fresh tasting.

Wedding Dinner for 75-90 people w/GREAT food?

hi!
i recently books my wedding at ici in fort greene- we invited 80 people. they have a lot of options and will help you figure out what's best for you, and the menu is from $35 to $55 per person for a three course meal, the $55 option includes wine. They have a reasonable restaurant closing fee, are amenable to any changes you might want to make in decor, and also offer open bar packages and champagne toasts. we're really excited for our wedding, and the people at ici have been really nice to us.

Bacon in the snow

I have spent many an evening missing this bacon, as we Poles usually slice it, and other cured and smoked meat, up onto a platter and serve it for "Kolacja" or midnight snack. But not I don't eat meat anymore and I still kind of miss it... The best Greenpoint butcher is the one on Manhattan between Java and Kent- it's really skinny and you can barely tell it's a butcher- the front window is covered in paper relaying the prices and sales. I assure you it is wonderful- my parents wait in the line for "kabanos" a jerky-ish long string of sausage and the boczek- the slab bacon. I buy their products for my boyfriend sometimes and he raves on it. Fresh Polish sausage was my favorite- it's more like Italian sausage and you boil then fry it. "Szynka" or ham is pretty wonderful too.

Where should I bring a food lover visiting Brooklyn?

peter pan donuts is indeed wonderful; in the summertime they have donut ice cream sandwiches. they're amazing.

Where should I bring a food lover visiting Brooklyn?

we ended up going to spuyten duyvil, le barricou, habitat, lomzynianka, brooklyn kitchen and pencil factory. The G being down really did a number on my plans for a park slope or cobble hill venture, but I am sure he'll be back... this was really helpful for me as a brooklyn-er though, as i've been wondering what i am missing out on living here. i am just waiting for an excuse to go to al di la and i have been researching southern and caribbean food ever since it started getting cold out... thanks so much for the thoughtful responses!

Where should I bring a food lover visiting Brooklyn?

Thanks so much guys! The G being down is really cramping my style. Two things I didn't mention before: Most Brooklyn Brunch and Fun Bars.
All your suggestions look wonderful!

Where should I bring a food lover visiting Brooklyn?

Hello,
A good friend of mine is visiting me from out of town this weekend, and we all love food. I want to bring him to some really great, truly Brooklyn restaurants. We are all not picky and are willing to travel to many areas. If you had a friend visiting you, where is the ONE place you'd want to take them to eat? Special consideration to French, American and Indian food, as those are favorites. We'll be coming from Greenpoint if that changes anything... Which it might because the G is down all weekend. I have some ideas, but I want the food to really be impressive so I am crowd-sourcing the search.
Thanks in advance!

Good places to live in Brooklyn based on food/bevs?

Yay finally a Greenpoint recommendation! Greenpoint is great for food, and the commute isn't awful... Granted, the G kind of sucks but the buses are great and the L is easy to get to... There is really good Thai, sushi, Mexican, Polish and American eateries within walking distance from any part of GP, plus it is close to Williamsburg so you can go there without hassle and without living there. It's a tad expensive, but it's a nice homey neighborhood. There's some great stores too, The Garden for example, and lots of awesome Polish stores too. Good coffee at Grumpy and some places that sell Stumptown Coffee. Also, there are two different green markets when weather permits, along with lots of locally owned/operated stores of all kinds. I really love living here.

Williamsberg rec for this friday?

le barricou is a nice place and their food isn't too expensive; they have a coq au vin for about 12$. i really want to go back and try their moules frites, too.

in search of simple cupcake

i think it depends on which flavor you're getting and how fresh they are when you eat them. my job sells baked cupcakes so i've tried a bunch of their flavors and some frosting IS kind of heavy (the oreo one for example) but the CITRUS one is heaven and so is the sweet and salty.

100 Person Wedding in BK? With outdoor space. Where to go?

I am in the process of planning this exact event too! I emailed these people at pochron, and they aren't doing events anymore. But the space DID look really nice. In your experience, how was the Picnic House price-wise in comparison with other places in Brooklyn/NYC? I am trying to figure this out, but places aren't being very forthcoming with their pricing policies!

Top Polish in Greenpoint?

lomzynianka is the best polish in greenpoint. i have been eating homemade delicious polish food my whole life and lomzynianka has some better stuff than my mother makes. but i lie to her when she asks. lomzynianka is very cheap and the pierogies are seriously amazing. my boyfriend is addicted to the polish platter with is 6 dollars and could feed a family of four for dinner.
