Best Sandwich in Phx?
Am I the only fan of Capriotti's on Chandler Blvd? They make delicious sandwiches... wish that there was a CenPho location!
New Vig
I have been here three times now and have been disappointed with the food on all occasions. I would consider this more of a bar and not a restaurant. The salsa and guac, double down (hummus & baba ganoush) were disappointing as appetizers. The vigan sandwich was ok but nothing to write home about. I also found the noise level to be excessive- shouting to the person next to you isn't fun or enjoyable. They have turned down the volume on the music but the chatter in the restaurant echoes throughout the space. Hope that they can improve because I am super excited to have a new hangout in the 'hood.
Pizzeria Bianco – Is Chris Bianco More Hands-Off These Days? (PHX)
Yes, usually he would be down below on his laptop, however I haven't seen him there in ages and my last Pizzeria Bianco trip was a disappointment as he wasn't there.
Pizzeria Bianco – Is Chris Bianco More Hands-Off These Days? (PHX)
I had the same experience on 7/3/09 when he was on vacation then too. I haven't been back since. Also haven't seen him at Pane Bianco in months and I'm usually there more than a few times a week.
PHX--Aiello's Back Door Pizza
I would have to agree with silverbear about Aiello's pizza... I find it a little too much for my tastes. As previously stated, Aiello's really piles on the cheese to the point where it is overwhelming. Each slice feels like it weighs about a pound due to the abundance of cheese and toppings; the crust isn't able to support the weight so slices should be eaten with a fork and knife. I've visited them twice for the pizza and I do not think I'll be back.
Phx: Top Pizza Joints
I would have to agree with the rec of the Parlor, as I too find it superior to both Cibo and PaM, which I found to be disappointing any time that I have tried either. I do agree with Seftel about Vito's for deep dish "Chicago style" as it is truly my favorite of this type in town. One of my favorite take out places (and one that I frequent) for pizza would have to be AJ's at Central & Camelback. Looking forward to ordering Aiello's tomorrow and trying it for dinner! :)
Authentic Italian sausage?
The place near Shea could have also been Guido's.

Parlor (PHX)
I really enjoyed my experience at the Parlor last evening and left with a very good first impression. Started the meal off with the cauliflower gratinata, split a 12" margherita pizza, a small farm greens salad and the parlor insalata. Everything that I sampled was very good. I really like what they did with the space; because I sat in the bar I did not see what exactly was "cracker barrel-ish". I'm glad to have the Parlor in the 'hood!
Good Pizza Near Esplanade (PHX)?
I have to agree completely with your thoughts. I think Spinato's sauce is too sweet; often under cooked so that the pizza sticks to the box when getting to-go. Also, Pizza Heaven, in the two times I've had their food, left me desiring something better.
Good Pizza Near Esplanade (PHX)?
AJ's pizza is consistently good and is usually the place that we get our to-go pizza from in CenPho. Please be aware though that sometimes the kitchen can get backed up and may require one hour advance notice on orders. Bonus that, if you ask, they will give you a pizza club card and your 11th large pizza is free.
Taking a Vegetarian to Vegas
I'm not sure if your brother would like being taken to a steakhouse to eat side dishes; I on the other hand would look for other options in LV. The only recommendation in LV that I can personally recommend would be Capriotti's for one of their veggie sandwiches. They have several stores in town. Looking on other sites I was able to find a few ideas (mind you I have not been to them): Veggie Delight, Red Velvet, Himalayan Cuisine & Long Life Vegetarian. If you come across any Middle Eastern/Mediterranean restaurant that's a safe bet that they will have a few vegetarian dishes. Please let me know if you do try any of my ideas as I too need more options when in LV.

teriyaki (PHX)
I have to second silverbear's recommendation of Blue Fin; their food is truly wonderful. Everything that I've had there has been fresh, delicious and really makes any other Japanese "fast food" restaurant pale in comparison. To top it off, they honestly have the friendliest service I've had anywhere.
Where to find Umbrian/Castelluccio lentils in Phx?
Hohokam,
I picked up a 1lb bag of Umbrian lentils (lenticchie umbre) @ Andreoli for $6.95 a few months ago so I'd assume that they still have them. I don't think I've ever seen this @ Costco on 44th St or 19th Ave tho.
Best Vegetarian-Friendly Restaurants in Phoenix Area
I have to second Udupi. Their lunch buffet is delicious and totally worth the money. I also agree with the previous mentions of Green and Mandala Tea Room. To add to the list, I recommend Lalibela Ethiopian Cafe, Fresh Mint and That's a Wrap. Where in PHX are you staying; are you willing to drive?

Vegan potluck? I'm totally there! Thanks for the post!
PHX: Panini Bakery and Cafe
I have stopped in to get some Bosnian style bread and some sort of spinach and cheese stuffed pocket, but other than that I'm not sure what they can make/serve. On my stop I asked for a menu but was informed that they don't have one. I was instead informed they could make me what I'd like but that was of very little help.
Playa in July - Staying at Secrets Capri
danvillehound,
I'm bumping this hoping to see what you thought of the food at the resort and where you ended up eating in Playa. I definitely plan on returning and am hoping you found other places in town to go!
Beat the Heat Suggestions for Pane Bianco - Phoenix
I had lunch there this past Saturday and the patio was fine with the misters. If you can't handle the heat go next door and eat at Lux, half of the people there were eating Pane Bianco.
Thai in Tempe Tonight
ziggylu,
Do you know if Yupha can make vegetarian dishes? I'm always up to try new Thai options! :)
Thai in Tempe Tonight
Hi,
I just wanted to follow up and Thank You for your recommendations... Thai Basil was really good! We ordered the fried sweet potato appetizer, vegetarian green curry, vegetarian pad thai, veg. fried rice and she got the sweet and sour beef. Everything was delicious, however I thought they were tame on 'Thai Hot' as far as the green curry went. I was very impressed and have been craving it ever since. Definitely reccomend Thai Basil if you need a Thai fix!
Blue Moon Sports Grill/A Taste of Mediterranean PHX
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about these restaurants as they have rebuilt and are in the process of re-opening on the SEC of 12th Street and Northern, behind the AM/PM. The new building looks like it will be split, one half the Blue Moon Sports Grill and the other A Taste of Mediterranean Restaurant. Does anyone know what happened to them and has anyone eaten at them in the past?
Thai in Tempe Tonight
Hounders,
I need to meet a friend in Tempe for dinner and she wants Thai. Can you give me reccomendations or a link to a previous discussion? Thanks!

Phx - Looking For Fast Food Japanese Bowl
I have to third Blue Fin as I had lunch here today. It was really cute, clean and friendly. The food was really tasty too.. although I cannot vouch for the Chicken, the vegetable bowl was really good. To top it off I had an order of their Inari sushi, which, in my opinion, was absolutely wonderful.
Fresh Mint Cafe - Scottsdale
Yes, they do take-out. You can phone it in or walk in and order it.
Fresh Mint Cafe - Scottsdale
I couldn't disagree with you more. I had lunch here today for the second day in a row. It is absolutely delightful. The lunch menu features specials for $8.00 that include rice and salad. Inside it is immaculate and very clean and both times I've been here there are diners- it's not empty. I'm very glad to have another vegetarian/vegan option; Fresh Mint has awesome food! Today I sampled the Mongolian Beef, Fried Rice, Pad Thai and Autumn Roll. I thought the Mongolian Beef was delicious and the Fried Rice was full of veggies and tofu and was not oily, which is a big plus for me. I think they will be sticking around for a while!

Playa in July - Staying at Secrets Capri
danvillehound-
I returned from Secrets Capri May 28th after spending 8 days there... it was a lot of fun! As for the food in Playa, I only ate at 100% Natural on 5th Ave and it was wonderful. As for the food at Secrets, it was surprisingly good; our favorites were Himitsu and Portofino. Even with our vegetarian diet, we were able to find options for all meals at most restaurants except the steakhouse. The sea side grill was good too, however watch out for the birds! As far as activities, there are two desks upstairs that offer tours and on each floor you will have your own personal concierge that can arrange trips for you. Wave runners are available for rent on the beach at the adjacent property (easy to spot) and banana boats and catamarans are included and are also near the wave runners. As for trips, we only did the 1/2 day Tulum because we found ourselves enjoying the beach at Secrets the whole time. Have fun!
New restaurants PHX?
Hola Hounders,
I have to agree with Bax- Fresh Mint is wonderful. I would consider it a gem. I had the opportunity to eat lunch here today and am returning tomorrow, again for lunch. Everything about the experience was delightful. We ordered the Fresh Summer Roll, Lotus Salad, Kung Pao Soy Chicken, Stir Fried Noodles and 2 Jasmine Iced Teas. The Summer Roll was large and satisfying; followed by the Lotus Salad, which was cool and refreshing, would make an appropriate meal for summer together. The Stir Fried Noodles were good, but the winner was the Kung Pao Soy Chicken. We ate everything; my partner took my fork away from me because I kept eating everything! I will definitely be adding Fresh Mint to my regular visits; again I cannot wait to try more tomorrow for lunch!
It's nice to have another solid vegetarian/vegan restaurant in town; I hope everyone gets to try it wether they are vegetarian/vegan or omni.

Does anyone know if Thai Lana is open today (Phoenix)
I believe that Thai Lana is closed on Sunday. I second Thai Rama on Camelback as an alternative.
