KRAE's Profile

Barrio St Paul

We were looking forward to trying Barrio St Pail but were very disappointed. Our group of six ordered 2 orders of Guac, crab empanadas, fundido some small tostadas with pork and drinks. The guac was good. The $9 Margarita I bought was good but was about 2 -3 oz of drink in a small martini glass. The small plates were forgettable. The tab was HUGE I wish I could remember tae exact total for the food and 8 drinks. Never again for us.

Cheeky Monkey [MSP] now open!

This spot is much better than one would expect from a "Deli". The space itself is beautiful with a fireplace and bistro type tables. Large front windows let in a lot of light.
The menu (decorative chalkboard) has sandwiches, Panini, soup salads and some other larger meals.
We ordered at the counter and then sat at a table to talk and enjoy the fire on a recent fall day. I had a cup (actually more bowl sized) of lentil soup that was one of the best I have eaten. A nice touch was a sprinkling of cilantro, onion and toasted coconut on top. My friend liked the chili and we thought the cubano we split was great. There are many dessert choices. We split a giant macaroon. I am going back today.

Bar La Grassa:6 Days in, pretty smooth, greatness potential definitely there. [msp]

Bar la grassa
We dined on a Sunday after the restaurant had been open for 2 weeks.
The decor was great. Comfortable spot to sit and talk.
The staff was very helpful. We had received advice to ask about descriptions of the dishes since the menu was short on detail. Our waiter was happy to give us the information and advice. The staff outnumbered the diners so we had plenty of attention. Kind of a wait for the food but they may be working things out.
Some of the food was great, some not so. The scallops and the lobster and egg bruschetta were both wonderful! The gnocchi with cauliflower was also great. The tortellini in broth was tasteless and consisted of 5 tortellini. A pesto dish with lasagna shaped noodles was nothing special.
Next time we will go for Primi but skip the pasta
For 2 appetizers and 3 pasta half-dishes, no drinks bill was $85.
