Mesa in Fairfield gone already?

I read this article
http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news/article/Panera-plans-to-make-more-bread-in-Fairfield-3528733.php

which just mentions a very vague "this summer" along with "no opening dates have been confirmed."

Mesa in Fairfield gone already?

It's to become a Panera.

New Haven Pizza Tour

Just like there is wok hay for stir fried Chinese, there is "oven hay" for pizza. Any pizza is going to suffer a bit during travel.

That said, Pepe's pies can stand a little bit of travel, IMO. It's not so thin (like Bar, or Coalhouse in Stamford) that the pies really cool off once you step outside. Also, at take out I've always been asked whether I want the pies sliced. For best transport, I would hold off on the slicing, especially for more "liquid-y" pies like the white clam.

Still, I would try to eat on site for the full experience and best pies.

Sister Seeks Perfect Lobster Salad Roll in Connecticut.

Good point. Not sure.

Sister Seeks Perfect Lobster Salad Roll in Connecticut.

I like Clam Castle's: big lobster chunks, dressed simply in mayo (with I think just a touch of lemon juice). No celery bits that I recall, but it's served on a leaf of romaine inside a toasted New England-style hot dog bun.

Breakfast in Fairfield County

Not a huge fan of Chip's in either their Orange or Fairfield locations. It's basically a diner with average food that happens to promote their pancakes. I'd actually rather go to Cracker Barrel for their pancakes; I prefer their texture, and they offer real maple syrup.

We've enjoyed the Sunday brunch buffet at Splash in Westport, but it's been a couple of years since we've been.

Fairfield(CT) county restaurants serving dry- aged beef?

According to their website, Blackstones Steakhouse in Norwalk serves dry-aged prime.

Lunch in/near Orange, CT

I've heard good things about Peking Duck House, which is about a half mile up the Post Rd from LL Bean.

Visiting Stamford for a week — where to go?

Lots of good Italian and ethnic right in Stamford. Just some off the top of my head I can recommend:

For Italian:
Tappo
Columbus Park Trattoria
Quattro Pazzi
Zaza

For ethnic (incl. Peruvian):
Tawa
Chinese Mirch (Fusion Chinese and Indian)
The standard bearer for Peruvian is Fiesta, and there are two branches: Fiesta Atlantic is downtown on Atlantic St, Fiesta Cove is in the Cove section south of I-95 on Shippan Ave.
EOS (Greek)
Kotobuki (old school sushi joint)

Modern aPizza

All the new Pepe's establishments were able to get permits for their coal ovens, so I guess it's possible.

breakfast in new haven tomorrow with elderly parents

How about The Pantry, on State St? Not sure how veg-friendly it is, but it didn't seem too loud when I was there 6 months ago. Parking is in a lot in back.

Bourdain Barbecue truck. Milford, CT

Is there any place to sit? On my drive-by I noticed only the truck, and a shade tent with the smoker and 2 folding chairs underneath. It seemed like you would either need to retreat to your car, or sit on the grass in the sun.

Just drove by it and noticed the truck said "Boudan Barbeque"

This is their website:

haven't tried it yet...

Lunch in Stamford, Ct

There is almost literally no pho within miles of Stamford, although you will find fusion Asian bistros every 1/2 mile. For real pho, it's either Pho Vietnam in Danbury, or Pho Saigon in Bridgeport. As noted, Pho Saigon is not in the best of neighborhoods.

In CT, you'd have to travel up to the Hartford area to get any pho that approaches what you had in LA. Best in CT is Pho 501 in East Hartford, IMO. There's probably decent pho as you get closer toward NYC, but I'm not familiar with that area.

Prime Dry Aged Beef In Fairfield County?

I think Fairway sells dry aged prime

White Hut style burgers in Connecticut

I've never been to White Hut either, but how about the Sycamore Drive-In in Bethel?

Fried clams

Westfair Fish and Chips in Westport.

It's tucked in a nondescript strip mall, behind another nondescript strip mall, out of view from the road. It's tiny, and the atmosphere almost non-existant. But they have really good fried seafood.

Looking for Seafood Between New Haven and Rhode Island!

Was the outdoor lobster place called The Place in Guilford?

Best warm lobster roll in Connecticut?

Abbott's always gets press about being the best hot lobster roll in CT, but I vastly prefer Lobster Landing's roll:

1. Abbott's serves theirs on a hamburger bun. You don't get that toasted bread aroma with a bun, and there seems to be to much bread vs. lobster in each bite.
2. More egregiously, Abbott's lobster is shredded/chopped much finer, and held in warm butter until it's scooped onto the bun for your order. You lose a lot of the sweetness of the lobster, and holding it in the warm butter tends to over cook and dry out the lobster meat.

A good CT hot lobster roll should be: chunks of freshly picked lobster meat (tail, knuckes *and* claw), dressed in warm butter, served on a toasted New England-style hot dog roll, with a lemon wedge on the side.

Whole Foods Fairfield opening Fri June 3

Indeed, the facade and parking lot have come a long way in the past few weeks. The CVS building likewise looks only a few weeks away. The third building in the complex looks less finished, so there will probably be a few more months before the announced tenants of Chase, Petco, Five Guys and Chipotle open for business.

bodega taco and tequila bar

One of the CL postings is titled "Habana + Valencia = bode$ga" Could this be a new restaurant from Michael Young of Valencia Luncheria? He used to be executive at Habana.

rec`s to make a dream come true

Lobster Landing, in Clinton, CT. It's literally a shack in the middle of a working marina, but I really like their rolls.

Abbott's in the Rough in Noank always receives a lot of recs, but it is quite far from New Haven, and while it atmosphere can't be beat, I don't find their lobster rolls to be all that great, actually. First, it's served on a hamburger bun, and not on a split-top New England-style hot dog roll. Second, they seem to keep their lobster meat warmed in butter until serving, which dries it out.

Whole Foods Fairfield opening Fri June 3

Just posted to their Facebook page: WF in Fairfield will be opening on Friday June 3. From the looks of it, they still have a lot to do before then.

Like La Zingara in Bethel, Ct but NOT La Zingara

How about Il Palio in Shelton?

DAIRY QUEEN / ORANGE JULIUS ( MERGER ? ) IN FAIRFIED?

The Dairy Queen in Fairfield (next to Rawley's on the Post Rd) has re-opened this season as a combination DQ/Orange Julius with a mild exterior remodeling.

Saturday lunch on southern Connecticut coast?

Is there any particular cuisine you're interested in?

BTW, Lenny's in Branford and The Gris in Essex are past I-91 in New Haven.

Fairfield Ct Friday night dinner

Not sure what qualifies as "ethnic" nowadays, but I'll start off with:
