Help! Nothing Like Waiting Until The Last Minute!

Okay! By the time most of you are reading this, I will be celebrating a decade birthday, the BIG 5-0. I need to find a great place for my Mom and I to celebrate. My Mom (moderately fixed income) will be treating so fine dining is out. I am completely open location wise. Bucks County, South Jersey, or Center City/South Philly are all accessible. I love to eat different things, Mom not so much, but so long as there is a basic protein or pasta on the menu she should be fine. Would prefer somewhere with a liquor license so I can celebrate with some wine. More interested in the quality of food. Not a big fan of Thai or Sushi. Hoping my fellow ChowHounds can help me ring in my birthday with a great meal. Thank you in advance! Karen~

Best Cupcakes coming to Philadelphia

Hmmm .. walked by this location today and it is still the remant of a an old retail store. Looks like a Philadelphia permit had been pasted on the window but ripped off. Is Crumbs still planning on opening a location in Philadelphia. If this is still the location they are a very long way away from opening.

Favorite Dishes at Amada

The time has come for my first visit to Amada. I have a reservation on Friday night at 8:45.

Since I am only going with 1 other person the roast suckling pig is out.

Would appreciate knowing everyone's "must have" dishes. Also, how many tapas do most of you order on average?

Thanks in advance~

Looking for trendy or amazing food!

2 Roadtrippers from Philly coming to the City for the day to enjoy a matinee.

Looking for your best suggestions for a great eating experience. Since it will be late afternoon when we eat, I'm thinking that fine dining is not the best option. Price is not a huge consideration, but we would like to have amazing experience! Also, anywhere within taxi distance from the Theater District is okay.

Thanks in advance.

Le Bernardin Ultimately a Disappointment

Hmmm. I just had a very unsettling telephone conversation. This Saturday a friend and I are making the trek from Philadelphia to Manhattan for a 6:00 dinner reservation at Le Bernardin. When the hostess called to confirm the reservation, she told me that the table would be turning over at 8:00 p.m. as they had another reservation. Based on the below, it looks like they are just acknowledging the practice referenced below. Does anyone have recent experience with this? I was certainly surprised at this comment from a restaurant of this puported magnitude and wonder now if we have made the right decision. Karen

Any good lunch spots in Radnor, PA?

I also work at Radnor Financial Center. Head down Route 30 into the center of Wayne to Teresa's Cafe for the pasta and pizza. Their Francese pizza with goat cheese, carmelized onions, and mushrooms is to die for. Go before noon, to avoid the inevitable parking headaches. Avg price = ~$12

Osteria - Amazing Valentine's Dinner

Sorry, to disagree. I too was very excited to read all of the reviews not only posted here, but other sources as well. My meal (Sunday 2/10) was mediocre at best. We arrived for our 5:00 p.m. reservation and were seated promptly. Our waitress came to take our order and it was impossible not to notice her filty apron in the still daylight hours. Our sommelier was one of the most timid men that I had ever met and did not make any suggestions and instead asked only if we had any questions. It should be noted that the wine list (which was covered in cork) had been scrawled all over in pen. When my wine arrived, there was at least 10 cork floaters in it. Let me tell you that I have never ever returned a meal or wine back to the kitchen, this was a 1st for me. On a positive note, my appetizer special of pumpkin tortelli was amazing and very memorable. 2 glasses of wine, 2 appetizers (fried mozzarella/tortelli), 1 pizza, 1 fish special and $120 later we emerged both commenting that while we were glad to have tried Osterio, it does not live up to the hype and there were many other restaurants that we would like to try in the City, before we would return here. Very surprising.

Cafe Toscano Closed?

Well, I think that my favorite gelateria at 6th & Chestnut, has rolled up the carpet and gone away. Anyone have any insight? The store has been shut for at least a week and a half.

Fort Lauderdale Business Dinner

Hello ChowHounds!

I know that there may be some prior posts on this, but I need some restaurant recs for the Fort Lauderdale area.

I'll be at a conference at the Westin Spa & Resort in Hollywood, Florida in a few weeks, and will need to entertain a group of 8 business colleagues.

We would take a taxi from the hotel to the restaurant. While I'm not looking for fine dining, a nicer restaurant is definitely preferred (~$30/$35 for an entree). Looking for a mixed menu, Italian or Continental is fine, but would like to stay away from Mexican or other all ethnic menus.

Also, would prefer a full bar (vs. wine/beer).

Thanks in advance for your help!

Philadelphia to Duck, NC Dinner Stop

Hello All! I'm be driving solo to the outerbanks from Philly (about 7 hours) and am looking for a dinner stop. Mapquest tells me that I'll be on Route 13 for a very long time. Any recommendations on a good place to eat? I'm thinking more country style or BBQ if I can get it. I'm not a picky eater, so any recommendation would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
