Thanks! I found them at TJ's in Chelsea.

Thank you all! I called TJ's Chelsea and they were very helpful... said they have the whole fruit, the seeds and chocolate covered seeds. Might need to try that latter delight! Thanks for the tip about freezing them, too, Kathryn. Y'all rock!

Has anyone seen pomegranates available anywhere? I need one for an Easter dish, but fear there are none to be found. I live in Queens, but will travel for a precious pomegranate! Thanks.

A dish has been requested for Easter that requires pomegranate. I've been on the look out for one, but I fear they just aren't available anymore. Does anyone have a secret pomegranate source to share? Thank you!

West Village drinks and tea after Cherry Lane

Thanks for the reply, Kathryn. We're going on Friday, and I imagine the show will be just letting out at around 10PM. My memory of Sweet Revenge is not high on the atmosphere, though high on the tasty treats. But I was there years ago. Is it a cozy place to sit for an hour or more?

West Village drinks and tea after Cherry Lane

Hello Hounds,

I'm going to see a show at the Cherry Lane Theater on Commerce Street with a diverse group of people. I'm looking for a spot afterwards where some of us can have a tea, some can have a drink, and all can enjoy a nice atmosphere. There will be four or five of us. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

What to get at The Harrison? Or suggest another restaurant in that range...

Any suggested alternatives.

Thanks, foodwhisperer. I'm sort of not feeling that place, so you've confirmed it. I'll take a look at your recommendations!

A friend is taking me for a thank you dinner and suggested a few places, amongst them The Harrison. Does anyone love this place and want to suggest what's great there? Or... does anyone want to suggest other places in that price range? Any type of cuisine is welcome! Thanks!

best price on charcuterie for a party

Thanks! I might go with Costco. My only concern is prosciutto being sliced too thick.

What are your favorite cold, bite size appetizers?

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far! I'd love to do meatballs and stuffed mushrooms, but I'm not so sure they'd be delicious cold. I'll be cooking in the morning for the evening party, so that's a lot of waiting around. I may do some sort of potato thing, as some of you have suggested. Wish I could do oysters or shrimp, but unfortunately that's not in the budget. 150 is a lot of mouths!

What are your favorite cold, bite size appetizers?

I'm putting together a large party for 150 people and am looking for a few ideas for bite sized apps that can be prepared in advance. So far I have:

Union Sq Cafe mixed nuts
deviled eggs
stuffed dates
polenta squares with eggplant tapenade
various spanish tortillas cut into triangles
cheese & crackers
various dips and crudites
charcuterie
spinach pie triangles
stuffed grape leaves
a few bruschetta, tbd

Anyone have any ideas that would go well with this sort menu? I'd like to add around three more dishes.

Many thanks for any suggestions!! Hope everyone is having a warm and peaceful holiday season!

best price on charcuterie for a party

Hi Hounds,

I'm putting together a large holiday party (around 150 people) and would like to offer some charcuterie, but that can get expensive. Any tips on where to go for well priced prosciutto, salami and the like? Also, bonus question! What is your favorite winter fruit to wrap prosciutto around? Many thanks!

caterer with a conscience?

Hello hounds,

I'm putting together a holiday party for a not for profit organization and am looking for a caterer for the event. The budget is pretty slim- $700 for food for around 150 people. It only needs to be finger food. I'm preferably looking to accommodate a combo of all kinds of eaters (vegan, gluten free, and organic meat eaters). Can anyone recommend someone who might be willing to offer us a sliding scale??

Many thanks for any suggestions!

Light lunch in Jackson Heights?

Hello Hounds,

It's so hot. I've got a friend coming to visit me in Jackson Heights... can anyone recommend a place for a light lunch? She doesn't eat sushi, so that's ruled out. Indian sounds so heavy...

Many thanks!

I live in NYC, so I'm in luck in that regard. I don't really know a lot about wine, so I was hoping to get leads from the experts and enthusiasts here.

vegan birthday dinner- looking for one last dish

I agree, I'd rather not adapt something. I love the idea of a cashew curry, but it seems that every recipe I look at calls for onions or shallots. Personally, I love onions, so it's hard for me to imagine simply omitting them from a dish. Onions bring so much flavor. Am I being too finicky about not wanting to leave them out? Is there a wonderful way of making a curry without them?

Thanks, loratliff! I guess I figured the wine board was not regional and so might not get great local leads. If there are other favorite deals you know of at Astor or Warehouse, please share!

Yes, I suppose I could omit the onions, though they do bring a lot of flavor. I'm usually an inventive cook and like to play around, but somehow I'm having a hard time imaging that dish vegetarian. I feel it needs an animal protein. But thank you so much for the recommendations!
